Welcome to the House of Art. My name is Malevolent Ginger (Mitsue), and I am the moderator of this particular forum. If you have any questions regarding this forum in any way, feel free to PM me.

This forum is about any and all forms of art. This includes 2-D, 3-D, Writing, and anything else that may fall under this. (Basically, if you created it, it's probably art.)

2-D art encompasses: Drawing, painting, illustration, digital works, printing, photography, etc.
3-D art encompasses: Sculpture, weaving, ceramics, collage, etc.

Rules

- Abide by the ToS of Gaia. You agreed to them when you made your account. Just because you're in a guild, does NOT exempt you from them.
- No flaming/trolling/harassment of ANY sort. (Again, ToS.)
- When posting pictures that includes nudity, make sure to include a WARNING, so that people know what to expect when they click on your link. Nude pictures are NOT to be posted in full on the thread - they are to to be LINKED. Artistic nudity is fine, sexual nudity is a no-no. If you post anything that is sexual, your post will be removed and you will be warned.
- When critiquing someone's work, do NOT harass them about it. Critiques are to be supportive.

This does NOT mean...

Ms. Not so helpful
omg ur so awsum i wanna draw just liek u!

or....
Mr. Definitely not helpful
omg ur work sux SO bad! stop doing art EVAR

These are massive no-no's.

Instead, critique the work. This means point out something that could be improved, and mention why and how you think that flaw can be fixed.

AKA!
Good Helper
I like the coloring of piece, but the proportions are off. The legs look too long compared to the rest of the body.

- If you are critiqued, do NOT take it as an attack. It's merely a comment pointing out a positive, or a negative aspect of your work. It's not a comment about your personal self, so don't get upset. Merely use it as a tool to improve.
- Follow the standards (next post). These are to ensure that people with older computers, or people with different systems can all see your work properly, and we can have a smoothly running forum.
- Do not spam. We know you're a great artist and all, but you don't need to shove it in our face a hundred times. You won't be looking so great then.
- DO NOT. And I mean it... do NOT steal art work. It is ILLEGAL. A site moderator will be contacted, and if the plagiarism is severe enough, the original owner of the work will be contacted for them to decide on the legal proceedings. Plagiarism includes blatantly stealing work without any change, some minor changes, or tracing. YES - tracing IS stealing!

To explain...

Look at this.

One is a scan from the popular manga Bleach, by Tite Kubo. The other is a scan from Nick Simmons' (yes, the infamous Gene Simmons' offspring) published comic, Incarnate. I dare you to guess how long Incarnate was in print before someone called Nick out on more than 90 instances of tracing, and Incarnate was immediately halted in print and more or less taken off the shelves.

TRACING IS BAD.

It does NOT help you get better at art in ANY way, shape, or form.

Standards

When making your own gallery or shop thread...

- Use your first post to introduce yourself. Include what name you go by, your preferred media (painting, ceramics, fibers, writing, etc.), and mention whether or not you have any offsite locations, such as dA or anything similar.
- Post your work! (Keep those to posts to the second post, and on if you like.)
- If you're selling work, please list all styles, and the prices. Make sure to check with the pricing and suggestions forum FIRST. No one is EVER going to pay 20k for a badly drawn lineart, that was photographed with your webcam (I use this example because I HAVE seen people ask for this. It's simply ludicrous.)

When posting your art work...

- Include the name of the piece.
- Include a LINKED thumbnail to the larger picture. Thumbnails are to be at MOST 150x150 pixels
- Keep the format of pictures to either JPG/JPEG or PNG. (Or GIF for animations).

When critiquing other people's work...

- Do not harass them. This includes insults of any sort.
- Point out both a positive, and negative aspect of the work. After all, the point of a critique is to be constructive - and to help the artist make their work better. No artist can get better without knowing what a flaw is, and they can't get better if all you do is berate their work.

How to link thumbnails

1: Get the URL of your thumbnail.
2: Get the image code of the thumbnail.
3: Get the URL of your picture.
4: Link them together, as follows.

[ url=PICTURE URL HERE ][ img ] THUMBNAIL URL HERE[/ img][/ url]

When Selling/Purchasing Art...
- Be fair. Don't overprice art, and don't take too long to finish the commission. If you're buying, don't harass the artist. Don't try to undercut the payment as well.
- Finish the trades AFTER the commission is finished. If you're unhappy with the result and you have already paid... well, we can't really help you. But if you haven't paid yet and the artist is trying to give you art that is CLEARLY not advertised, then I can step in and remedy the situation. If you contact me about art, claiming the artist is not working to expectation and I find that the art IS to expectation, the customer will be in trouble for false accusations.
- Keep art in a PNG format when you give to a customer. It's not a requirement... but it just makes the picture higher quality, so that they can shrink it down to fit into their signature if they want without losing too much information.
- Do NOT be upset if the customer has to shrink your art down or even crop it to fit in the signature/post layout. Once they pay for it, it's theirs.

Which reminds me of my campus art building. We paid 8 Million for the building, the construction is finished now and it's been two years since the opening. We can't do ANYTHING to the building (such as displaying student work in the art wing) because it wasn't in the 'architect's vision'. Pardon my language, but this is total bullshit. We paid for it, construction is done. It's ours, and we should be able to do with is as we find necessary. The same applies for art.
