Chailai was starting to have a terrible habit of getting herself stuck in high-up places. This time, she was on a jungle gym, trapped on top of the little overhang that kept water from raining down on the slide. She was in a purple dress, the pretty sort that complimented the gems that she loved so very much, looking around at the world that surrounded her, long ears tipped back against her wavy brown hair. It was all very beautiful, honestly. The grass was starting to get it's colour back, poking through the melted snow. Though the shadows were cool, the sun warmed every place that it touched, which is likely what led to her mother's napping on the park bench. A soft breeze rolled through the air, and the young girl pulled her woolen jacket a bit tighter around her shoulders.

Despite the beauty of the landscape around her, the young princess was still afraid of her perch and the way that she towered over the ground. She had dropped a few pieces of gravel from up so high, and it took them so very long to hit the ground. The young one sighed softly, flicking her tail before wrapping it around her body. Her small arms clung to it softly and she gave a gentle sigh. It looked like she was stuck waiting for another knight to rescue her...

Kana loved jungle gyms - well, really she loved climbing anything, but jungle gyms seemed to be the only things she could climb without getting into trouble, and so as soon as her mother brought her into the park, she made a beeline for the climbing toy and scampered up it, all four arms put to work to haul her little body up to the top - where she found another little girl there.

"Hello," she chirped, sharp teeth gleaming and all six eyes sparkling with excitement - here was a new person to taste befriend. "I'm Kana! You look tasty!"

That goodness that the young girl had been sitting down, lest she'd fall and break her crown. The little lady had been completely oblivious to the arrival of the other toddler, but had caught sight of her mother. Her head tipped to the side a bit, a slight smile on her lips. The woman was certainly pretty, wasn't she? The greed child's tail perked up a bit, gently swaying back and forth as she simply watched the other while observing the landscape, waiting for someone to rescue her.

It was then that the voice sounded from behind her. The abstinence girl turned and, as soon as her eyes found the other, she screamed, nearly toppling backward off the playground. Her speckled fingertips gripped the edges of the plastic tightly, ears pressed hard against her head, tail wrapped around the nearest pole that made up the playground. The young girl didn't even notice that her scream had awoken her guardian, who seemed... honestly, rather confused.

"I- I-I--!" the small one stammered, trying to scoot back and failing, tear-filled light green eyes flicking across this terrifying figure who stood in front of her. She shook her head, trying to keep from crying. "I d-do not believe zhat I-I am t-t-tasty..."

Kana tilted her head, confused as her long red hair fell into her eyes, blinking slightly as her smile faded. Why was the pretty tasty girl scared of her? She didn't do anything mean, did she? She hadn't even bitten her yet, or asked for p'rmission either!

"But... you look tasty," she said, her voice rather subdued from her usual tone. "An' be careful, you don' wanna fall!" she added, watching the other girl teeter precariously on top of the jungle gym. Her own eyes were wide and startled, confused because she had never before met someone who was actively scared of her, and Kana didn't really know what to do about it.

Back down on the ground, Paulie resisted the urge to facepalm, and failed. That child...

Chailai whimpered softly, shivering all down her body. Sure, her big brother had played Dragon in her little games, and she'd seen monsters in movies before, but... but this girl was a real monster! She had four arms, and... and a million eyes, and sharp, pointy, scary teeth!! If that wasn't enough, the redhead kept telling her that- that she was tasty!! Did that mean that she was like the bogeyman? Was she going to just eat the little princess up? Would her Mama just go on with her life like Chai had never existed...?!

"B-b-but I am not! Surely, I am not, monstre. Jou do not want to eat moi!!" the little girl whimpered back, trembling softly. When she was told to be careful, she glanced back at the ground and trembled, scooting only a few inches further onto the hunk of plastic, but no more than that. What if it was a trap, after all?

The "monster" blinked - a rather interesting action with six eyes - and licked her lips. It had absolutely nothing to do with the girl in front of her, but... it probably didn't help her seem any less scary!

"Mon..stre? Issat like monster? I'm not a monster, I'm Kana!" She declared, just a little frustration creeping into her voice. "An' I won't taste you if you say 'no,' silly! Mommy says t' be polite!" she declared, shifting her grip on the jungle gym to haul the other toddler closer to her, on a more balanced part of the jungle gym. "Come on, you're gonna fall an' then you'll get hurt an' Mommy will be mad a' me 'cause I didn' stop it!"

Was she really that scary? Kana thought she was pretty not scary! She had extra pretty eyes, and extra arms made climbing things easier! And - and she had to have sharp teeth or she couldn't eat! Wasn't that obvious?

Chailai quivered at the motions of the monster, tears dripping from her bright green eyes. She didn't like this, being trapped up here with this... this monster, with nowhere to run. Well... she had places to run, sure, but none that she could run without the risk of getting hurt in the process. The name that she was given, however, left a bit of confusion in those innocent eyes. Kana...? But Kana was the name that a girl would have, not a monster. Honestly, the young girl hadn't taken time to see anything on the other except the extra arms, eyes, and sharpened teeth. Maybe she should have done that.

Yet, rather than giving her a chance to notice this, the other girl took hold of her, pulling her closer. The small girl screamed in surprise, immediately curling up into a terrified little ball. When she was placed back onto one of more stable platforms, she got back to her feet, stumbling backwards and clinging to the bars, a few feet away from Kana. Finally, she let herself take in the rest of the girl's appearance. Though she was still terrifying in appearance, she was dressed in the clothing of a little girl. If she subtracted the extra arms and eyes, she in fact looked almost like a normal girl...

"J-jou should not do zhat," Chailai whimpered softly, wiping at her teary eyes and leaning against the bars, weak in the knees. "Jou will s-scare people if jou s-say zhat zhey look tasty..."

The other girl wouldn't stop crying, and Kana didn't understand. Neither did she get it when she tried to keep her companion from falling and the other screamed and tried to get away - she hadn't done anything but try and be nice!

"Stop screamin', scaredy-cat!" she complained, backing away and clinging to the jungle gym's bards with her toes, her shoes and socks having long since been discarded on the ground below her. And she wasn't scary, she wasn't!

"I'm not bein' scary, i's true! People DO look tasty!"

A slight glare pierced Chailai's gaze, one of the first times that she'd expressed anger to someone who wasn't her Papa. The fur at the end of her tail puffed up, ears tipping back a bit more forcefully than the way that they usually drooped. Her speckled fingertips clenched the bars of the playplace tightly as she compiled her retort. "I am a princess! I am allowed to be scared!!" she snapped back, tail whipping back and forth like that of an angry cat. "Only my knight 'as to be strong an' brave, an she will protect me from zhe monsters like jou!"

She only frowned further, stomping one of her mary-jane-adorned shoes on the platform. "Zhat is a stoopid reason! Just because it is true does not mean zhat jou are not going to scare people!!" she replied, still trembling softly, as though yelling back at the creature was going to make her even more of a target. "I do not tell people when zhey are not pretty just because it is true!!"

Kana had never been more confused in her entire life. Well, confused wasn't really the word for it; she was almost... what was this feeling? It was like, like being told not to eat anything when she was really hungry, or - or that she couldn't go play outside, but... different somehow. It hurt, inside, and to her uttermost surprise the little spider girl realized that when she blinked, there was uncomfortable wetness on her face, kind of like what the strange girl had on hers.

"I'm NOT A MONSTER!" She yelled, standing up taller and putting her hands (all four of them) on her hips. "I'm not, I'm not! You big, big STUPIDHEAD KITTY GIRL," she said, and started to climb back down the jungle gym headfirst.

Playing in the park wasn't fun any more, and all of a sudden all the redhead wanted to do was go home...

Even Trois' attention was brought back up by this latest outburst, though a part of himself that was ruled by his mate had said that a playground scuffle between two toddlers was more of a good thing than it was a bad thing. Immediately after the statement, the little greed spawn dropped to her knees, dress splaying around her in a typically fairytale fashion as she buried her face in her hands and burst into tears, wrapping her tail around herself to cling to it like a life raft.

Concern in his hazel eyes, Trois got off of the bench and slithered to where his little kitten was all curled around herself. Shaking his head, he raised himself up on his lengthy tail and lifted her light little body up. Immediately, the girl clung to him, small hands wound in his hair as she cried against his shoulder. Gently, he pet her wavy hair, feeling a small amount of sympathy mixed with regret and irritation. Perhaps Deux had been right. Telling her that she was a princess was a bad idea...

Kana ignored the other girl, the mean girl, the girl who called her a monster 'cause of her arms an' eyes and - she thought she was pretty, was she really just scary?!? Fussing in earnest now, she slid completely to the ground and barely remembered to grab her socks and shoes from where she'd ditched them before making a beeline for her mother. She was never coming back, here, never ever ever!

Paulie didn't say anything to comfort Kana, but she did hold her hand and helped to to slip her shoes back on. She sent an apologetic glance to the parent of the other toddler - whether it was seen or not wasn't her problem - and led Kana away, resolving to never take the little spider back to that particular playground.... or any playground where there were other oversensitive little brats sitting around.
