Her dream... To live freely as Ensis fulfills her destiny
Her past... Moira grew up in a small farming community far from the epicenter of the kingdom. Her favourite companion and best friend was her cousin, Alia (alias, Ensis), whose boyish toughness, love of adventure, and loyal soul earned her the nickname Ensis. Ensis was one girl among boys in a large family, their fathers blood. Moira was the only child born to her parents, mother dying at her birth.
Such things are normal and so the family received condolences and mothers in the small village enjoyed helping the "poor child." Her father, Aron, was a grief-striken man at the loss of his Shiekah wife (the most exotic creature he'd ever seen, and so he loved her); their farm fell to pieces and by the time the girl was old enough to carry a bucket of water, she was handling most of the chores.
Slowly, the child began assuming a wife's role-- cleaning their clothes, cooking the meals, making sure all the beds were made and everything tidy. Sometimes, though, especially when her father cursed her for having her mother's eyes ("I should have known she'd die on me-- with your bloody eyes, how could you not come into the world with death?") she'd imagine tearing her father apart, hitting him, screaming, though she hadn't had a tantrum since she was five. She suspected he could see the rage, so he'd beat her.
By the time she was ten, she walked with a limp (though this was from an accident in the stable breaking one of her leg bones, not her father's abuse; he never broke a bone).
Alia slowly realised what was happening over the years (so, she gathered, did everyone else; one of her cousins once offered to kill her father, but she loved Aron in spite of his cruelty) and when the pair turned 13 (their birthdays being exactly 18 days apart), they vowed they would run away together. It was then they dubbed each other Ensis and Mors. It was between their 16th and 17th birthdays Ensis found her Mors sleeping in the dirt outside, bruised but not broken. They left that evening on the gelding Erith.
The two live by their knowledge of the land of farms; occassionally they pick-up short-term work as farm hands; sometimes, they even go on 'quests.'
Not with a bang, but a whimper
