A 1911 would be my first choice
If It was somthing smaller and packed more punch, a 357. Pocket revolver would do fine.

Right now I've got a G19, but it's kind of hard to hide. I think I might need to buy something a little more concealable. I'm thinking something tiny like a Ruger LCP, or maybe a Walther PPS. Really I just wish that Glock made a single-stack 9mm. I'd buy that.

I would carry my 1911, but with a 7 round magazine instead of the 8 that came with it. That little bit less length makes a huge difference, and 8 rds of .45 should be enough.

I'm dead-set on a 1911 for my carry pistol.
Though packing a Model 500 would probably lead to some hilarious Crocodile Dundee-esque moments.
"Honey, just give him the money."
"Why?"
"Because he's got a gun." *robber has Glock*
"A gun? That's not a gun." *draws revolver that would make Dirty Harry's jaw drop* "Now THAT'S a gun."

I think he meant 7 in the mag and 1 in the chamber Seven in the gun, eight more in the pocket. I've considered doing the same with the PPS. Six plus one in the gun, eight more in an IWB mag holder.

The point was to be 7+1 in the gun instead of 8+1, because of the shortened magazine.

Something slim and small in at least 9x19. I wear really tight clothes quite often. Though I would be fine with a compact Glock from October to about May.

I've had an ongoing debate over what I would carry once I get serious about my CCW permit. For now, I have my Bersa Thunder in .380. I don't worry much with hollowpoints in the magazine. I'm leaning on the Kimber Pro Crimson Carry ll. It's hard to argue with a .45ACP. http://www.impactguns.com/store/669278321905.html
