Nyx had wanted to avoid this, she'd made a good go at avoiding this, but ducking into empty, or completely occupied, rooms to hide from a certain someone had to come to an end eventually. But on her own terms. Yes, she'd come to the decision after almost becoming a deep fried agent, and yes she'd come to the decision after a certain Elite blurted out what had been in the back of her mind all along, but it was still on her terms. The scientist had spent the past week planning, shopping, and then earlier in the day, baking. Every great plan involved a cake.
The agent made her way to Mau's room, following far behind Newton while he made sure the coast was clear. Nyx stood beside the door with her back pressed against the wall and motioned her head towards the room. Newton had his orders. Check for the human, open the door. Check for the human, open the door. The Drifblim peeked his body through the door... No human. Newton floated the rest of the way into the room and opened the door. "Bli-" "Shh!" Nyx cut the pokemon off with a beam of red light that sucked him into being quiet.
All she needed was for Newton to blim it up and draw attention to her. No. Her terms would not allow for that. She stepped into the room hurriedly and set a beautifully decorated white frosted cake down on Mau's desk. The confection was heart shaped, possibly strawberry flavored and pink on the inside, and had amongst the decorative icing, a message in chocolate letters. 'Swim Lessons', '8 Tonight'. Nyx backed up and stared at the cake. What was she doing? No, don't think about it. Nyx turned to leave, walking in much less of a hurry.

It had been peaceful. Quiet... Maybe a little lonely. He had a teacup that he still hadn't returned. Not for lack of trying though. But it seemed every time Mau tried to find Nyx, she was no where to be found. He rarely even saw her in the labs. It was like Nyx was avoiding him or something.
He was coming back from the labs. So much work still had to be done. A lot of his work hadn't gotten done while he was recovering, and then Nadja had been gone even longer than he was, and Allen made things difficult, especially with the threats of demotion for not listening and doing everything his way forever. At least he was almost caught up.
When he entered his room, he was greeted with a faint growl from Ire, which caused him to look at her in confusion until she peeked out as if she hadn't actually done anything. Mau reached out to pet her, but Ire grabbed the cuff of his coat and tugged him to come and see this thing on the desk. She didn't know why the fuzzy lady was here, but she was fuzzy, and didn't like Uta, so she didn't stop her from coming in. She didn't do anything to Ma's plants. Just left this thing and left. What was it?! Ire whined slightly, a little distressed as she stopped at Mau's desk and let go of his sleeve looking up at the cake on the desk.
"Swim lessons?" He tilted his head curiously. "At 8?" Glancing at the clock, he still had an hour. An hour to get ready. Put the cake away so chinglings with the munchies wouldn't eat it, shower, find his swim trunks...
After all was said and done, Mau was walked to the pools, Aki bounding at his side. Mau had a towel over one shoulder, a soft blue button up shirt, and a pair of black swim trunks. He entered the room which housed the pool and looked around for whomever had left the cake. Though he had a vague idea. Who ELSE would leave a message cake?

Who else indeed.
The mystery messenger was standing between the pool and the door, and she seemed to have gotten a memo that today was, perhaps, a holiday in which pink and red were the signature colors. Nyx turned her head around when she heard someone come in and a smile flashed briefly across her face when she saw that it was Mau. Finally. Not that she'd gotten there early and been anxiously waiting for the door to open or anything. Nyx crossed her arms and turned to face Mau, forcing herself to scowl exaggeratively at him. "You're not early." She said in the most growly voice she could manage.
Nyx burst out laughing. It was impossible to imitate a certain someone and keep a straight face. "You got my message! Are you ready to learn to swim?" She seemed eager.

Mau couldn't help but smirk a little at her failed impression of Seth. It was made better by the fluff Nyx called hair being pink of all things. But the smile quickly fell as he walked a little closer. "How did you get into my room?" It was almost a demanding question, but still gentle. He couldn't help himself and raised a hand an poked at her hair a little. It was so... pink.
"Swim? I suppose so." Really, he didn't care for the idea of swimming. There was too much water involved in swimming, really. But... Nyx was in a swim suit. So that was a plus. He stopped playing with Nyx's hair and slowly unbuttoned the shirt he wore and slipped it off. The incision from the chest tube had healed, leaving just a small scar on his chest. Coupled with the scar on his arm from when he'd broken it in the raid prior, Mau looked a little badass. He walked past her towards the pool side chairs to drop his towel and shirt. On his back, there was a large slightly discolored scar just to the left of his spine marring his tanned skin.

"Oh. Well..." Nyx smiled sheepishly, really wishing he'd have skipped over the little breaking and entering part of her message. "...I invented a teleportation machine?" She looked at Mau for a moment, before adding the real means by which she got into his room. "Newton opened the door for me."
The scientist turned swimming instructor's cheeks reddened when Mau unbuttoned and then removed his shirt. She suddenly remembered why she'd been avoiding him; Her stomach felt fluttery, her face was hot, her eyes lingered on certain toned features, everything was very confusing. But, avoiding him hadn't helped matters like she'd expected it would. As irrational as it was, the only option seemed to be embracing these feelings, whatever they were.
While Nyx seemed to be... oogling Mau, her eyes were drawn to his various scars. Battle scars, obviously, from the various raids he'd been on, though she didn't remember any of his injuries being near his spine. They certainly made him seem more rugged.
"Ah..." She shook her head, trying to get back on track, "Yes. So. Swimming." Nyx walked over to one of the chairs and untied her sarong. "You aren't afraid of the water, are you?" It was a question lacking any ridicule. Any sort of fear, touching the water, being in the deep end, submerging, would change the way she'd have to instruct. Nyx didn't exactly wait for an answer though, before she walked briskly from the chairs and down the steps into the pool.

Mau smirked. She was still so cute when she tried to lie. "Ah." Was all he said to her breaking in. He thought about asking her not to make a habit of breaking in, but of all the rockets who could break in... he trusted Nyx the most. She at least wouldn't tamper with his research. She respected science. Even if it did make her call him a girl.
"Afraid? No." He said dropping his dry belonging on the chair. "Unused to, yeah." He looked at the pool and frowned a little. "The deepest natural water where I'm from came up to my ankles as a child." He sat down at the edge of the pool and let his legs dangle in the water. "So, where do we start?"

"Get in all the way," Nyx stood in the shallow end, the water coming up to her chest, although it would only reach the hip or so on someone as tall as Mau. "And walk out into the pool until the water reaches your shoulders, or you get uncomfortable."
Nyx grinned at Mau inadvertently while she started to backpedal into the deeper water, trailing her hands through the water, waiting for him to follow. "I grew up in Vermilion, just down the street from the coast." Sharing things about herself wasn't exactly natural; She usually preferred to talk about her pokemon, or work, which encompassed most everything in her life at the moment, or people seemed to talk to her, leaving her in a position to simply listen; But it just seemed natural to share with Mau. He was something of a confidant. A tan, muscular, fairly attractive confidant...
The cotton-candy headed woman felt her cheeks getting hot again. That had to stop. She couldn't very well teach anyone how to do anything if she kept getting distracted and blushing. Nyx scooped up a handful of water and ran her hands over her face with a sigh.

All the way, huh? Mau eyed the water dubiously before sliding himself off the edge of the pool and into the cool water. That was another thing about water. It was cold. Cold and wet and there was too much of it. It came up to the lower part of his ribs, so he walked further into the deep end- perhaps showing off that he was taller than Nyx because he could walk into the 5-6 foot deep range before the water was at his shoulders. He folded his arms and looked at Nyx.
"Vermilion? Nice city." He gave her a soft smile as she splashed herself with water. "So Nyx, why pink?" He asked, looking at her hair which was now darker with water weighing it down.

Nyx stopped moving through the water once the water came up to her shoulders; She didn't really feel like treading water while trying to hold a conversation or instructing, it was tiring and she was not a person with very high stamina.
"Ah." Nyx had almost forgotten that she'd dyed her hair. Drat. He probably already knew why and was just asking to torment her, so lying would most likely not work... especially since any time she tried to lie the results were less than spectacular. "Because it's... Valentines day... Her voice got quiet towards the end of her sentence in an attempt to hide what the occasion was. Her spontaneously festive spirit was betraying her! Nyx blushed, realizing, now, exactly what day she had chosen to deliver her cake on. For as intelligent as Nyx was, the scientist was, at times, equally oblivious.
'So!" She started in an attempt to change the subject, "Uh! Put your head under the water!" Yes! He couldn't possibly manage to embarrass her while under the water! Also, that was the next step in her 'learn to swim' lesson.

"Huh. I would have gone red, personally. But that's a personal preference." He shrugged. "But then, your hair was already a valentine-acceptable color." Mau grinned at her before sucking in a breath and ducking his head under water, not giving her a chance to retort.

Nyx gave Mau an indignant look as he ducked under the water. What? Wasn't he even going to tease her? What was this? He really knew just how to get to her, even when he wasn't trying to get to her!
Despite rising levels of flustered, Nyx was glad to see that Mau was handling being in the water well. He wasn't lying when he said he wasn't afraid of the water; Most people hesitated when submerging their faces for the first time, but not Mau.

Mau had no idea that Nyx was fuming at him above the water. Otherwise there may have been smug satisfaction at her fluster that he hadn't teased her. By now, he knew she liked pink and had no concept of some holidays- like Christmas, so this was no big deal. Mau surfaced after a few moments, a little displeased with himself for surfacing so soon. He really needed to hit the gym more often. But he was still 'recovering' and getting back to normal.
He pushed his hair out of his face and looked at Nyx through his dark, wet lashes, waiting for either tips or ridicule.

Nyx hadn't expected him to stay under for as long as he did, and frowned at him when he surfaced. "Are you sure you need swim lessons?" Maybe this was some sort of ploy to... something. Nyx couldn't think of what he could be scheming, but there had to be something. She lowered her head into the water until only her eyes were above it, and blew fluster-bubbles. Mau was causing a swirl of confusing thoughts and feelings, and she wasn't sure what she was doing, or why, but at the same time, was very resolved to do it, whatever it was.

Mau tilted his head at her with a faint smile. "If swimming was just standing in the water and holding my breath... or... blowing bubbles, then no, I don't need lessons. But the whole moving through water? That's a little..." He looked away, there might have been a slightly irritated blush creeping onto his cheeks. "...beyond me."
To think... a grown man who couldn't swim. Around here it must be so strange. For the first time in his adult life, he actually missed his home, when not swimming was normal.

Nyx raised her head out of the water and looked thoughtfully at Mau. "Hmm... Alright." She wasn't completely convinced this wasn't all just a clever ruse for... things. Possibly tricking her into thinking Mau looked somewhat cute on the rare occasions when he blushed. A dastardly plot indeed.
"Then we should start with learning how to float." Nyx changed the subject in her own mind. Take that mind! "You already know we're naturally buoyant," At least she hoped he did, or else she vastly overestimated his intelligence and possible ability to rival her at science. "Just tilt your head back, spread out your arms, and gently kick until you're laying horizontally in the water." Nyx demonstrated for Mau, putting her head back into the water, leaving only her face exposed, spreading out her arms, kicking gently a couple of times, and floating. Of course, it was a little easier for her, since females had built in flotation devices.
"Don't worry if you don't get it at first. It is really only important that you get used to how your body works in the water." Nyx dropped her feet back down so that she was standing. She needed to watch Mau when he tried this... For teaching purposes. Honestly.
