Nenmau stretched sinuously across the heat vent he had found, letting the warm bubbles pop pop pop against the curve of his back. He watched the hair before his eyes float and tried to imagine how it would be when it was longer. It would be longer. He would find a way to make it longer. And it would float about him like a dark ink cloud. His own patch of deep ocean to carry with him. And he would be good at maintaining it too. Caring for it, brushing it, cleaning it. He was exceptionally fastidious. He lifted a hoof and inspected it. He cleaned off a speck that might or might not have been there. Better safe then sorry when it came to maintaining his looks. Another long stretch uncurled his tail to full extension. It felt so good, being beautiful. And that's what laying on the heat vent was about. It was good for the shine of his coat. In an hour, he'd flip over onto his belly again. He would have slept in a shark's mouth, if that was what it took to keep his pelt glossy. However, this was infinitely more pleasant. Another long stretch and he let his pretty eyes drift closed.

An unusual creature made her way through the cold deep waters of the ocean. Her pink eyes glowed in the darkness as she explored deeper than she had dared venture before. Cadora Solace, daughter of the elegant Cade Milotic and the hydra Veldaron, was unusual even as far as rare mersoquilli went. Her oddities came from her father in her fincrest mane, glowing eyes, and a pair of delicate fangs. Also from her father was her preference for the deep waters of the ocean. She let out a huff of bubbles at the thought of her mother's wandering ways.
"You won't catch me drifting in that close to landdwellers," she grumbled to herself as she propelled herself deeper as if wanting to get more distance from herself and that possibility. She did wonder though when she'd see her mother again. Certainly she wouldn't stay away forever. Distracted by her thoughts it took a moment before Cadora noted the changing temperature of the water. It was a subtle thing but the water was growing warmer, "That's odd," she said and moved in the direction of the warm flow to investigate.
She explored enjoying the warmth and the interesting environment. Then Cadora came accross a most unusual sight, a fellow mersoquilli lounging in the warming bubbles of the vent itself. Cadora grinned with mischeif. The handsome male seemed completely focused on his basking, he should know better, the ocean was a dangerous place afterall. She circled closer, pink eyes glowing brightly. She paused only a few feet away, "A lovely day isn't it?" she asked her tone mocking and somewhere between sinister and sarcastic.

He gave a long languid stretch at the sound of the voice and smiled, He opened his eyes and nodded. "Yes, I am lovely today, how kind of you to notice. If you were here for a turn on the heat, would you kindly give me just a little longer? My back needs a few more minutes, and for the same of evenness, I would like to do my belly as well, to keep them to the same amount of glossiness.

Cadora laughed a bit at the complete lack of reaction, so much for startling him. She had to admire him, a gleaming patch of silver in the depths. "It's fine, I wouldn't want to interrupt. I've never been to a place like this before. The ambient warmth is doing me quite good." She swam in a slow circle, "Do you mind some company? My name is Cadora Solace, I'll answer to either one alone as you wish."
His attitude intrigued her, reminding her a bit of her mother's utter contentment. It was a familiar and yet different...

"You are more then welcome to remain, even more so if you do not need the vent," He said, examining her, then examining his hoof for any trace of imperfections. They would need to be trimmed, soon. He knew a good stone that left a nice residue that almost made them shine. "The warmth does have many good qualities," he agreed once he finished his inspection. "I am called Nenmau. We seem to both have names as lovely as our forms."

"Thank you. This does seem a nice spot," she replied cheerfully. He seemed to have either not noticed or just not care about that fact hat she had tried to frighten him. He seemed far more concerned with himself. A bit of a vain fish this one. she thought though he had complimented her. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Nenmau." Unknown to the two conversing at the heat vent another mer approached the area. Cade Milotic had returned to the ocean only days before. She was without her familiar Travis since Cade was looking to visit with her children who lived further from the coast than the otter liked to travel. It seemed it was for the best since from the information she was able to gather Cadora was venturing further and deeper than the otter would have been able to follow. "He is safe at the beach," she reasurred herself having felt a twinge of concern pierce through her normal calm. Cade had chosen Cadora to find first since well her unusual appearance made her the easiest to track. One did not see a fanged mer every day. With a carefree laugh the elegant mer dove deep in the direction a pod of dolphins had last seen something resembling her daughter.

"And a pleasure to meet you. I have to ask, what do you do to keep your fins so perfectly neat?" he asked. The clearness in the fins of the female was beautiful, he wanted to make his own better, but that was par for the course. He was always looking for ways to increase his beauty.

Her fins? What an odd question... hmm what did she do? Cadora really had to think for a moment. She didn't really do all that much regarding her appearance. She knew she was unusual looking and it didn't take a lot to keep that up.
"Well I do normally frequent the waters closer to the shore and visit the reefs," she explained finally. "I have no problem sitting still while some cleaner fish take care of things. Also I'm omnivorous so the fish oils in my diet probably help as well."
Cade was much deeper now than she'd ever been before. Like Cadora it was the growing warmth of the waters that drew her toward the vent. Plus the sound of conversing mers. The feminine of the two voices sounded very much like Cadora. Ahh, perhaps I have finally found her, and she's chatting with a stallion, she thought with a smile. It didn't cross her mind that perhaps she'd be interrupting and even less so as the conversation became clearer.
It was with a laugh that she arrived. "Good day to you both. It is good to see you so well daughter." She grinned at the stallion, "And who might this be?"

His nose gave the most adorable wrinkle at the mention of the surface. But he gave real consideration to the fish oil and cleaner fish. "I have never let another groom me, so it may yet be a thing to try. And a change in diet is always a thing to experiment with. He glanced up when Cade spoke. It took all his self control not to whimper when he saw her hair. That was what he wanted, long flowing tresses that moved with the whims of the sea. That was what he had sought. Her color would never suit him, mind. It wasn't that he wanted hair just like hers, or even her hair, but he wanted that length, that bounce, that motion.

Cadora smiled at his reply, "It's rather enjoyable to have someone else do the work." She was just about to offer to bring him to one of her favorite spots sometime when a shadow approached. She swam back a bit startled as her mother, of all creatures, joined them. "Mother? What are you doing here?"
It took her a moment to realize she had likely startled them both, but she chose to reply to her daughter's question. "Yes, its me. And I was looking for you of course." She turned back to the stallion still curious about him.
"Of course," Cadora replied and shook her head. "It's good to see you as well. This is Nenmau." She turned to the stallion, "Nenmau, this is my mother Cade Milotic."

"A pleasure to meet you, miss," he said respectfully and admiringly. "Your daughter was just telling me about how she keeps her fins so neat, and I must wonder if the two of you do not care for them together. Each of you has fins as lovely as the other," he said. He really wanted to ask about her hair, but he knew that was not the way to come at the discussion. And she rally was pretty. There was so much more then hair he could ask her about.

Cade was still quite surprised that Cadora had been discussing such things. She tended to favor the more unusual and slightly frightening features she'd inherited from her father. Mother looked over daughter and nodded, "She has been doing quite well since I've gone." Cade settled close to the male, perhaps closer than one would like a stranger to be but it was all the same to her. "I can't take all the credit for my own appearance. I have the benefit of having a wonderful familiar. He's an otter and puts his paws to good use."
"Oh yes, good ole Travis. Of course he wouldn't do much good for someone who rarely visits the surface. Still other familiars could be useful to deeper divers, a lobster perhaps?"

"Co-operative grooming?" He asked, intrigued. "How exactly does that work?"
