Economic downturn and white flight had been a one-two punch to this part of town. The office building stood abandoned, adrift in a sea of slowly-cracking parking lots. There was a guard who circled every once in a while in his car without stoping, but anyone with more than passing stealth skills could make the dash across the lot and slip into the building. Europa was already inside, set up in a conference room off the main hall, electric camping lantern glowing on the never-used table.

There was a bag in her lap, the shape of which suggested a laptop. The glowing screen of her senshi phone said there were five minutes left until her and Foramen's arranged meetup, so she wasn't worried. How could she be worried?

She had a rolly-chair.

Europa snapped her phone shut and kicked off, sending the chair into a spin. Foramen would get here when he got here. No point in holding it against him if he wasn't as disgustingly punctual as she was.

Foramen had less trouble than most getting past the guard, thanks to his handy rift-tearing abilities. It also meant he had no need to arrive early or 'leave extra time' for unexpected mishaps. So he wasn't quite as early to the meeting as Europa - though he still arrived before the designated time.

He moved soundlessly through the abandoned office building. It was actually a very smart choice of location - structurally sound, fully furnished, and out of sight of both civilians and the Negaverse. Not that Foramen didn't like a good fight, but there was a time and place, and in the middle of updating their senshi database was not it.

When he arrived in the doorway to the conference room, he was greeted by the sight of Europa spinning in one of the plush chairs. One corner of his lips quirked upwards. It appeared the tomboy (if her uniform of pants, not a skirt, was anything to go by) had a hidden childish side. He remained where he was, leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed over his chest. He silently counted down how long it would take for Europa to realise she had company.

Europa caught the edge of the table with her boot to stop her spinning and gave Foramen a tight wave. "Evening, governor," she said, feeling a bit silly to be caught enjoying her rolly-chair. Well then, it was time to get down to business, wasn't it? She placed her laptop bag on the table and pulled the computer out, giving Foramen self-conscious glances as she did so. From the few conversations she'd had with the senshi of rifts, she'd guessed he was a bit of a tech snob, and as laptops went, it wasn't the fanciest.

"I installed the editing software like you said," she explained while she waited for it to wake up. Her desktop pattern was one of those Astronomy-Picture-of-the-Day ones. It appeared to be... Europa eclipsing Jupiter. Typical. The desktop folders were arranged in a way that suggested some degree of a**l retentiveness.

Foramen was watching her and the clock was ticking. Europa opened the application as quickly as she could, and then went to retrieve her phone. "Should we just work through the submissions in order?" she asked.

Foramen allowed himself a bit of a snicker as he took a seat. It had been kind of funny to see a senshi spinning around like a five year old visiting their parent at work. The laptop earnt a worried glance - Foramen hoped it wouldn't crash while trying to handle a connection to a mobile phone based on alien technology. Though, really, he would have had that worry about any human laptop, so Europa didn't have much to worry about in the way of Foramen judging the device (even if he never would never in a million years use a laptop like that).

"Nice desktop," he said, arching an eyebrow. He supposed that was one good thing about being the senshi of something in the same solar system as earth. The best he could find of Foramen-the-star was a tiny white dot in the middle of a scan of dozens of other tiny white dots.

"Good, let's just hope the editing software works properly. I don't know how well Mauvian and Earth technology will mix." He almost wished they had a cat to ask, but the only cats he'd spoken to were either insanely unhelpful (Astraea, Ophelia) or couldn't interact with the senshi phones at all (Zue). "Fingers crossed," he held up one hand to do exactly that.

Everything was still in the testing phase, really. Though at least the submissions from other senshi were coming through just fine - now they just needed to be able to sort them into some kind of organized relevance. And fix some of the writing - he scowled at the odd textspeak entry.

To distract himself, he removed a cylindrical object on a strap from over one shoulder. He placed it on the table between them. "I brought coffee," he explained. "In case you're anything like me and work best with a caffeine hit."

Europa looked from the thermos to Foramen and back a few times. Alas! A kindred spirit! "Oh, my god, yes," she said, and reached back into her bag. "Hold on- I have-"She rummaged around in the stray pens and papers for a bit and produced an enormous aluminum can.

"Ener-TEA," proclaimed Europa, cracking it open. "Do you want a sip? This stuff is nectar of the gods." She took a swig, set the can down delicately, and turned her attention to the computer. "I don't know a lot about programming," she said, and actually that was an overstatement because she knew zip about programming, "but the computer seems to handle this okay."

It was a bit slow, but what could you do? It was a four-year-old Dell. Getting it to do anything more than word process was like playing chinese checkers on the back of a cat.

"First up," said Europa, thumbing through the forms on her phone. "Um. Castor would like us to be aware of a 'Dyke b***h' named Variscite. And that is basically... all he has to say on the matter. Have you got a copy of that one?"

Castor managed to be infuriating even when he wasn't present. It had to be a new record or something.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 13, 2011 10:00 pm

Foramen blinked as Europa produced her own hot drink. "Sure," he said, handing over the metal lid-cup of his own thermos. If it was bad, he would just wash it away with his own beloved coffee - he'd gone and gotten the good stuff, too.

"Goddamn Castor. Unless he can actually tell us if she has a special someone we can use against her," Foramen said with a scowl, "we'll be leaving that description out, thanks." And since it was Castor, it could just be a stupid insult, not even an accurate assessment of the girl's character. To be sure, some senshi might find it helpful to know if flirting could distract their opponent, but with their luck all this Variscite had done was turn Castor down - which just showed good taste, in Foramen's books.

"Did he actually give a description, or any reason why we should be aware?" From the resigned tone, Foramen wasn't expecting either.

Europa squinted at the tiny text on her phone. "Clawed fingers," she read after a moment's hesitation. "Will out your face if you let her. And he calls her a dyke, twice." Charming, Castor. Really charming. "But I guess we can put her into the system on that, and if someone else gives us a description...?"

Who was she kidding? This was as vague as it came. She checked the next few forms from Castor. They were somewhat more complete but still... "Ugh," groaned Europa, passing the can of Ener-TEA over to Foramen in exchange for the thermos lid. "He turns it into a game of Hot-or-Not. Like, he's giving me estimates on Linarite's cup size."

Then she read the rest of the description of Linarite, and a lot of things made sense. "Bouncy hammer girl," she said, which probably would just confuse Foramen. But it was nice to have a name to go with the agent who'd attacked her over a year ago.

"So you know how Castor sucks major nega face?" she asked. "At least he filed his girlfriend in our database."

Castor could have points for sticking to protocol, she decided.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 15, 2011 9:14 pm

Foramen rolled his eyes at Castor's descriptions. Of course he was describing the girls by cup size. "If the Negaverse have their own database, I hope they put him in as having a tiny d**k," he muttered. Was there any senshi more oversexed than Castor? ... Well, maybe Andeon. Foramen shivered at the idea of those two in the same room.

"Wait, wait," Foramen backtracked. "He's dating a Negaverse agent?!"

How did that work? Enemies flirting while going soft on each other? Or something civilian, then, oops, guess we discovered each others' secret identities? (And how goddamn stupid was Castor to let that slip to anyone, let alone someone who turned out to work for the other side.)

"I hope the romance is over," Foramen eventually sighed. "Adding her to the database is a good sign. I just hope he's still able to fight her properly." Not having been present for the fight Elysion fight, Foramen was unaware of just how seriously Castor could, and did, fight Linarite. Not that Foramen would have believed it if someone told him, either.

"Do I wanna know about the hammer? Comes with giant nails, too?"

"No, no, it was like one of those plastic squeaky ones," answered Europa, gesturing awkwardly with her hands, trying to give visuals. "Only giant. It was Linarite's lieutenant weapon, I think." At least, some blue-haired negaverser had had a squeaky hammer. She was willing to bet the rest of her can of Ener-TEA that it was the same girl.

"Anyway," she added, "I don't know if they're still together, I haven't spoken to him in a while." Well, there was Chinatown. But the less that was said about Chinatown the better. The senshi of the deep sighed and cracked her knuckles before going back to her phone to find the next form. "Alright. What is there to say about... Tanzanite?"

At least he wasn't describing this one like a sleazy porno fanfic. But the description struck her as familiar. She tapped the phone's screen thoughtfully with a gloved finger. "Huge purple arm. I've seen her. In Elysion."

She looked over at Foramen, eyebrows raised questioningly, looking to see if the statement rang any bells. "Castor's got her about right, except he puts her as captain? And from what I remember of that battle, it looked like she was, like, leading them into battle or something. But I got a concussion pretty early in, so I don't really know."

She pursed her lips thoughtfully at the data sheet as she copied the information into the computer (with Castor's author's notes... omitted in the name of good taste). So the youma-armed officer's name was Tanzanite, huh? "I'm going to stress the dangerous part on this one, I've heard about her from a few different people." In retrospect, Maia had mentioned a negaverser with a monstrous arm as well. "And put a question on her rank? She looked like a general to me when I saw her."

Her fingers clicked across the keys. "Okay. Who's next?
PostPosted: Wed Feb 16, 2011 2:26 pm

The woman with the purple arm sounded freaky. And very much not the norm for the Negaverse. "Are they meant to have monster parts?" he asked. "I thought they liked physical weapons. Though, I guess, a hugely strong arm might be a weapon. Some kind or armour, or was it... um, alive?"

Foramen was weirded out by the idea. And more than a little intrigued. If it wasn't for the fact that Europa was sure this Tanzanite was a General, Foramen would have gone looking for her to find out for himself. But he wasn't about to take on a General by his itty-bitty-first-stage self.

Flipping through the entries, Foramen perked up as he saw some of his own appear. One of them was amended with a report form Europa, he noticed. "Huh. Looks like we've both encountered... Moonstone?" he read off the name, glad that Europa had identified the crazy woman. With a scowl, he complained, "b***h broke my arm with that mask. And she's still first level? I shudder to think what'll happen when the bi-polar freak levels up!"

Europa had forgotten she'd put in a form on Moonstone, and she looked confused for a moment. "Moonstone? Oh, I haven't- Oh. Regulus fought her. I put the report in for him. She roughed him up pretty bad, he was in the hospital for a few days. You're not the first person to describe her to me as an absolute psycho. I'll make a note."

And beside Moonstone's name in the database, she typed in "APESHIT CRAZY," which she thought best described the amount of crazy contained therein.

Thinking back to Tanzanite, though, she tapped a finger to her lips. "I'm pretty sure the arm is alive. I mean, I spent most of the battle in Elysion with a concussion and I don't remember half of what went on, but I've heard things about that arm." You knew you'd made it big when your reputation preceded you, right? "Sailor Maia said she saw it eat someone once. Speaking of which, do you remember the aliens and the youma that came out of cards?"

She'd never quite figured out what that was all about, just that it was long over. "The Negaverse is sort of right when they call us aliens," she said thoughtfully, after a while spent typing in silence. "Have you been back to Foramen at all?" (Not that she was sure whether Foramen was a star, or a moon, or a planet, or a constellation for that matter. She'd look it up later.)
PostPosted: Sun Feb 20, 2011 1:47 pm

"You're lucky you haven't met her, then," Foramen muttered as Europa typed away.

The notion of an arm eating someone made Foramen blanch. He reconsidered his desire to meet or observe Tanzanite, at least til he was Eternal or something and actually on par with an arm that ate people. Opening his mouth to ask how the hell an arm did that, Foramen reconsidered and decided he really didn't want to know.

When Europa mentioned the aliens and cards, Foramen thought back and frowned. "Vaguely," he said. It had happened right after Barren Pines, which meant he'd been hospitalised, or recovering from, for most of it. He thought he'd run into one of them, maybe, but mostly what he knew of the fights was hearsay from other senshi.

"Oh, I've heard that argument from them," Foramen scowled. A tiny, annoying blue-haired Captain flashed across his mind's eye. "I think it's a pile of bullshit. So what if we were born on different planets in our last lives? We were born here this life, and in my opinion, that makes us as human as they are." If not moreso, considering the senshi didn't have their souls corrupted by some evil force.

The mention of his planet calmed Foramen somewhat. In fact, there was something that was nearly a smile on his face as he recalled the visit to his star. "Yeah, I visited. That's a pretty cool trick our phones have there." He wasn't sure what to actually say about Foramen-not-the-senshi, since it had been empty. Eventually, he explained, "Big empty shell of a city floating in space, next to my star. Completely dead, and slowly decaying. What about Europa? That's a moon, right?"

"Yeah, of Jupiter," she said with a nod. This explained the desktop pattern, at least. "It's pretty there, the view is great... but the cities, yeah, they're abandoned. Some are preserved really well, but a lot of places I've found it looks like they're half-absorbed by the ice."

"What do you think happened to them?" she asked. "That there's no one left there? I mean, I've only been to Europa a few times and I visited Pyxis with, well, Sailor Pyxis, obviously, but there wasn't anything alive at either."

Like Earth was the only planet left alive in the whole universe, maybe. That was a chilling thought. She tried to shrug it off, although it did send an involuntary shiver down her spine. "Something's weird about all this," she muttered. It would take more thought later to piece it all together, though.

She turned her attentions back to her phone. "Flora sent in two," she said. "Pretty straightforward descriptions, a lieutenant and a corrupted senshi."

She tapped the information into the computer. "Have you met any corrupted senshi?" she asked.
PostPosted: Mon Feb 21, 2011 2:12 pm

It was not reassuring to hear that three out of three past civiliations were empty husks. If that trend continued - Foramen made a mental note to ask any other senshi he came across - then it was very worrying. If everything else out there was dead, why was Earth still alive? Was whatever killed the other civilisations coming for Earth? No, it had been too long since their past lives - considering other places in Earth's solar system were ruined, surely whatever caused it would have done the same to Earth if it were aiming to.

"I suppose that explains why we were reborn on Earth," Foramen mused. "There was nowhere else left for us to go."

Part of him wondered if the Negaverse had something to do with all the wiped-out celestial bodies. He dismissed it - if they were that strong, they would have taken over Earth by now instead of being in a deadlock with the senshi.

When Europa mentioned corrupted senshi, Foramen was more than happy to seize upon that as a distraction. "I have, two of them. It's a bit worrying, isn't it? The Negaverse can turn us, but we have no way of evening the odds... Ugh, and those holes in their chests!" Foramen shuddered. He definitely didn't want anyone sticking their hand in his chest, let alone ripping things out.

"I've met one named Hel - dresses like some loli-goth cross between Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood. Made me defeat a giant bat youma to get a stareed back off her. Though I suppose it's good that she was willing to be her spoils, instead of just nick off with them." More considerate that most Negas that Foramen had met. With them, it was battle it out against the Nega and hope to steal the starseed back and run away with it before they gave chase.

"The other was during that Elysion thing," a hand was waved vaguely, as Foramen had no idea how to explain it if Europa hadn't been there. "Male, used bells as his weapon. Stole one of them off him." Foramen gave Europa a fierce grin. "Sadly not one he used for his attack, but still. Battle souvenir."

"Well, Hel's the one we've got information on here, and I've met Tisiphone. She hangs out with Serandite - have you met Serandite? It was back before we'd met any corrupted senshi, didn't realize that the black uniform should have been a tip-off," Europa groaned, and pulled up a new page on the program, starting to type in Tisiphone's information. "They fooled Bellatrix, both convinced her they were on our side until it was almost too late."

After a moment, she added with relish, "Not a mistake we'll be making again any time soon."

She typed a bit more, then leaned back in her chair. Europa's mind was still working on the Why Earth question, which was turning into more of a conspiracy by the minute, but it wasn't what they were here to discuss. "It's creepy and depressing," she said, trying to wave the talk of the corrupted senshi away. "All it does is make me more certain that something happens to Negaversers when they're awakened, like what Castor says about Tanzanite."

She pulled the file back up on her phone. "She used to be human. Hel and Tisiphone used to be senshi. There's something about all this that just-- augh."

She shuddered voluntarily. "It gives me the heebie-jeebies. Doesn't it give you the heebie jeebies?"
