In all honesty, he really wasn't sure why this whole plan worked. He understood that, in a city populated by people with superpowers, stories about psychic vampires wouldn't be so hard to believe. But all the same, he didn't look so much like a vampire... he didn't sparkle. No fangs. Just the black mark on his forehead and the gaping hole in his chest... Some of his victims had to be senshi, some of them had to realize what it meant. Didn't they?

But he wasn't going to complain about those successes. Anything that made him look better to his superiors--anything that meant that he, Spinel, would be clearly on the side of the Negaverse. He was no traitor, not like Charonite and Nealite. He hadn't known them so well, but all the same, he was... if he was honest, he was terrified of sharing their fate. As a senshi, he was already just one step away from being a traitor--but for a lucky mistake, he'd be as misguided as the red-headed senshi from Elysion.

That b*****d. He still had one of Spinel's bells.

He shook his head, rose from the bench he'd been sitting at. It was late; the clubs and bars were starting to close, which meant it was prime time to find a victim for the evening. Restlessly scanning the crowd, he clenched his hands into fists; let them relax, and then fisted them up again. Most all of the women he saw were with men, and he wasn't comfortable with... well, the whole plot, when faced with a man.

Finally, there was a girl. Long dark hair, somewhat tasteful top, emerging from the bar. She looked about, as if confused. Perhaps she was meeting someone?... Only one way to tell.

Spinel crossed the street at a diagonal, coming to a stop close, but not too close. "Hello, darling," he said, keeping his tone low, his manner friendly and interested.

Jada was not feeling so good, by the end of the night. She'd gone out celebrating for Lisa and Viv, maybe a week ago? And she wanted to this weekend to. It was a Saturday night, and there wasn't anyone here to tell her any different, not right now. Lucas and Zora had gone to New York for the weekend, and last time she'd gotten home fine. So when it came to deciding what to do on a Saturday night... Instead of bothering Audrey, who had a boyfriend to worry about; instead of calling Elke, who was a traitor (and happened to have a boyfriend of her own); instead of calling Fallon, who would just want to take her on Patrol (Patrol was Ares' boyfriend)... Jada had decided to just go alone. She didn't need anyone to go with her, after all. She was a mature young woman. Not the sharpest tool in the shed, what with her drinking while she was underage-- she could get a lot of trouble for that!-- But she was smarter than she took a lot of credit for. She could handle herself.

So she had slid into a pair of dressy blue jeans, not wanting to wear a dress when she was going by herself, and didn't have anyone to dress up for that didn;t scream desperate. She slid into a nice top, did her makeup, and fluffed out her hair, leaving the curls to their own devices. She put on comfortable, heeled boots that went over her pants and laced up to the knee. Her belly ring, the one she'd gotten that she never had the chance to show off, showed through the slightly sheer material of the top as it went over her belly, but that was okay. She looked sexy and available, she decided. But not slutty, or loose. And she had gone out, taking a taxi since she knew she'd be drinking, and she had allowed herself to have a fun time.

She'd allowed herself to be bought drinks by a few worthies, being careful to make sure the lids to her waters were still on, still tight, or that she accepted the alcoholic beverages only from the bartender him-or-herself. That was how you were safe, after all. There were bad people everywhere, and she could only take care of herself. She'd danced, she'd indulged, and after all of that... she didn't feel good. The world spun a little around her as she stood up from her seat at the bar, shrugging off the solicitous hand that moved to catch her. She was fine. She just couldn't drive. She was too dizzy to drive. She needed to call a taxi, anyway, right? She hadn't brought her car.

Jada had drunk far too much.

The heiress managed to find her way out of the club, the cool air outside a comforting smack to the face as she fought the nausea twirling in her belly. She was buzzed, it seemed; maybe a little closer to drunk than she'd been before. The heat and the lights hadn't helped, but outside it was cooler and darker, and she felt infinitely better. She looked around, confused. She must have come out the wrong door; she'd thought the taxi stand was on this side. Oh well, it wasn't a long way around the building.

The voice that came from behind her startled her, and she jumped. Oh, it was... a man, dressed up very, very strangely. She should know this. Danger signals were going off in her head, and it wasn't all because he was a... okay, so he was not greasy, nor was he leering. "I'm not your darling," she slurred crisply. "But hello to you too." she eyed him for a moment, as though she were trying to decide something. Really, all Jada was trying to figure out was if he was a Shark or a Jet, and if she should scream before he tried to steal her wallet.

Goodness knew no one else on this side of the building was paying any attention to her. Or him. They all seemed wrapped up in each other. Jada was incredibly jealous. Maybe she wanted to get a snuggle too!

She definitely looked a little out of it. She might evaluate that she was buzzed, but to Spinel it looked more like she wouldn't remember a thing once she woke up the next morning. Maybe the beginning of the evening, maybe a foggy idea, but the exhaustion plus the hangover... he should be safe enough. He kept his smile soothing and friendly at her rebuttal. "Is that so," he said, "Do forgive me." And he meant it, which might seem a little strange. Here he was, standing in front of a girl too drunk to walk a straight line, about to steal as much of her energy as he could, and he was apologizing for the term he'd used to address her.

"Taxis don't often come this way this late," he said, tone genteel. If the girl had any sense, any sense at all, she'd see his intentions weren't good. That the couples around them had all deserted them, and it was the two of them on a tiny side street. His dark eyes, regarding her from under the thick, dark bangs, showed none of the smile on his face--but the kindness was clear enough. Kindness and concern. "May I walk with you for a bit? I promise, no harm will come to you, and when we're in a better part of town I'll call a taxi for you, so you'll get home safely to your bed."

Very calm. Very genteel. What was the catch here?

Jada shook her head at the stranger as he apologized to her. "You need to back off, mister." she told him, one french-tipped nail rising to poke the corrupted senshi in the chest. "I'll forgive you just this once, cause I am nice." Alarm bells were ringing in the back of the heiresses head; she should know this person. Something about him was achingly familiar, and all she knew is that she didn't want to be alone with him, not really. She should have gone out the other doors, not these doors. "There will be a taxi for me up front." she said it confidently, head wobbling just a little, voice still slurred.

He was a very pretty stranger, with dark hair and dark eyes and a sweet little smile on his lips, and she didn't know why the alarms were saying she should be moving away faster than this. He didn't look like a threat, and he seemed to be so nice. So worried about her. If only he knew that he didn't have to. "I can take care of myself." she was reassuring him now, reaching out to pat his hand. "I'm sure there are other girls who could use your help more than me. I'm pefekly- perfectly- sober. See?"

She trotted forward a few steps on her heeled boots, in an 'S' shape, and then pirouetted to beam at the green-clad man. The pirouette was perfectly graceful, no wobbles and no dips, the motion at odds with how drunk she seemed to be when she was walking. She pushed a curl out of her face, lightly painted lips curving in a smile that said she wasn't very used to giving guys the brush-off. It was too friendly. "Thank you though, Mr. Stranger." He made the pit of her stomach roil, and it wasn't just because he was cute.
