The black and green lion had been curious, his entire life he'd stayed within the pride's land, doing his job diligently. Ailani had only wanted to see what there was to see, but thus far it was a whole lot of nothing. Landscape, trees, the occasional bird here and there...and for the first time in his life completely flat land, with the mountains far in the distance he pressed on, away from his homelands. He had every intent of returning, he just wanted to see what there was to out in the open. Try his paw at hunting new terrain.
His eyes glancing from side to side, his purple eyes looking dully about him. There wasn't anything of real interest to see. Ailani was wondering if the most important day of his life was really going to be his Ujaji ya Makamo, the rest of his life just working until he died. Not that Ailani thought that his job wasn't important, he took great pride in his hunting abilities.
A boring, bland day, he was thanking the goddess that it was cool afternoon, his thick fur made traveling sometimes nearly unbearable.

Eztli had grown bored with her life and wandered away from home, uncertain if she ever intended on going back to where anything was particularly familiar. Right now it was a test-run. If something proved that it could be interesting to wander, she just wouldn't bother going back. Truthfully, she was just looking for an excuse to stay out, it wouldn't take much convincing.
She'd just been chasing around some hares, wasting some energy and enjoying herself.. and now she was taking it easy, though she stayed on the move. She walked leisurely around, watching the sun move slowly across the sky and trying to keep track of where she had been.. and where she wanted to go now. Had she spotted Ailani nearby, she might have wandered towards him.

He spotted the red lioness as she walked in front of him in the opposite direction.
"Hello!" He called, finally someone to see! The Aali'makabila were xenophobic to an extend, they allowed rogues into their lands, as long as they were lions. Anything nonlion would be enslaved. He agreed with his pride's views, he was obviously raised with them. He however, was still curious about other prides, about how other lions lived their lives.
"Anything interesting in that direction?

Eztli was startled when very suddenly there was someone before her- unsure how she had missed it, but not particularly worried about it. He was dark colored, it didn't exactly blend in but it didn't exactly stand out, either. She stopped and stood straight and tall before him, not interested in looking anything but strong and confident.
"Nothing back there," she said, nodding to where she had come from and allowing a small smile, "Anything this way?"
An opinion could be helpful, though she knew her's hadn't been. Just because she wasn't interested didn't mean someone unfamiliar with it might not find it so. She was more worried about her own adventure.

The black lion didn't feel the need to stand tall and confident, he stood sort of loosey-goosey and laid back. Hesighed, well, perhaps that was just this lionesses opinion, however unhelp it was; at least he was getting someone else's opinions.
"Nothing really to tell home about," the entrance to his home land was a secret, and it wasn't exactly the first thing behind him, so he felt there was no need to mention it.
"There's good hunting a day or so from here in that direction, and of course continuing on there are the mountains." He had enjoyed himself hunting the other day. "I'm Ailani," he offered his name.

Hmmm.
Eztli looked past him thoughtfully, thinking about the mountains. It might be worth looking into, but.. how different could one set of mountains be from another? Maybe she ought to switch directions entirely.
"Huh?" she said, looking back at Ailani, realizing he'd given his name, "I'm Eztli, nice to meet you."
She guessed.
"You from around here?"

"Pleasure to meet you as well, Eztli," he used her name so that he would remember, it was a trick one of the nanny's taught him while he was going up, easier to recall names and not look foolish.
"Sort of," he confessed and shrugged, "really it's farther that way," he gestured behind him waving his paw about vaguely.
"Are you from around here?" Was there a pride near by? "In that direction?"

She looked to where he gestured vaguely but couldn't see any particular signs of life in any of the directions and assumed he was being intentionally vague. Which she didn't care about, she knew from experience and observation the dangers of rogues to some prides. She wasn't particularly ambitious in the same way her mother was, though.
"Sort of," she said, shrugging and glancing back, "Grew up around back there, not particularly interested in staying."
Which was why she was here.

"It's nice to be away from home." he muttered, "just to see something new." his cubhood through adolescence he'd stayed with the nannies and the moment of his graduation moved on to being a hunter. The end, he didn't see much of the prid's lands except when helping with deliveries.
For a moment there was an awkward silence.
"Can I ask you a question?" He thought about that for a moment and then added, "besides this one."
Before waiting for her response he blurted out his inquiry, "What's the wildest, most exciting thing you've ever seen? Or done?"

"Yes," she agreed, filling in the awkward silence.. at least a little bit. She spent the rest of the time looking Ailani up and down thoughtfully, wondering where he was from and what his pride was like. He looked rather.. fluffy. What did that mean? Was it a lack of grooming? That would be .. ah, interesting for a pride.
"The wildest, most exciting thing I've ever seen or done," she repeated, unable to help but raise a brow when he asked his question. She wasn't sure how to respond. She'd seen plenty, far too much in some cases, but had no personal interest or excitement in it.
"Leaving would have to be the most exciting thing I've ever done," she said after a pause, "I'm making my own excitement this way."

"Leaving?" he nodded in agreement, that was rather exciting wasn't it! He could recount the tale of taking down the largest prey beast all he wanted, but it wouldn't beat leaving. There was something entirely freeing and horrifying about it for him all at the same time. Rogues were watched closely, you couldn't be a sympathizer with any nonlions, although in Ailani's opinion no one would ever want to.
"That's probably the most exciting thing for me too, but..I'll have to go back. The world is a lot different out here. So I guess it's the first exciting thing and the last exciting thing I'll ever do."
"Are you heading somewhere in particular, or following your paws?"

"Yes," she said firmly, as if deciding it once and for all for herself the first time- and she was, at least verbally, "There's nothing wrong with going back if that's what you want, but that isn't what I want. Until I find something I want, I'll wander, I guess."
That implied she was following her paws so she didn't bother verbalizing it again. She was smiling, seeming satisfied with this part of the conversation.
"So you left for the afternoon or something?" she asked, "What draws you back if there's nothing exciting waiting for you at home?"

He though about what she said and agreed, there wasn't anything wrong with going back, and although he wasn't sure that's where he'd stay the rest of his days, he knew he'd have to return..maybe just for a little while. It was like culture shock, the vast emptiness that was outside of his mountain home.
"I'm from a semi-strict pride a few days walk from here. I heard from one of the rogues joining that isn't the same way out here in the open. We're superstitious, especially because it gets so cold where I am from." he didn't think he was giving too much away, "if a winter is hard.." he shook his head frowning, to imply it wouldn't be good.
"Everyone has a duty they need to do in order to survive, I'm completing my duty by hunting....except I guess not right now, because I'm wandering around." He shrugged again.

Hmm. Clearly he was just OK with a lack of excitement in his life, which was fine for him. It made him a little less interesting to her but that couldn't really be held against him. There had to be something, even if he didn't say it. Maybe he was just happy with it.
"Well, I'd say hunting away from home isn't a bad thing, though a couple days if a bit far to go for it," she said, glancing around, "There aren't many things right around here to hunt right now, anyway. I saw some hares but that's it."

"My life doesn't have to be all hunting," he defended his occupation, but it was true, his life was basically nothing but hunting..sleep, work, make deliveries to the other tribes. Of course it wasn't like he was a slave, he had choices and could do what he wanted, but life seemed pretty boring.
"It just is nothing but my job," he sighed.
"I wanted something new, and finding someone new outside of the pride..counts." He was raised to be tough, a good hunter and a survivor, and Ailani felt like he wasn't any of that at the moment.
