User ImageThe flustered rabbit bolted only inches in front of Aloisia. It's small heart raced as it tried to flee but it was growing tired. Short quick breaths escaped from the pups muzzle, her paws flinging up snow behind her as she ran. She had not seen prey for days and was not about to give up. Her mouth began to water as she grew closer and closer to catching the rabbit. The frightened creature turned tail and began running straight towards a nearby frozen pond. Aloisia knew that the pond could hold the weight of the rabbit, but would break under the pressure of her body weight. She had to catch the rabbit before it reached the pond or she would go another day without food. She flattened her ears and pushed herself even harder. Only a few feet away from the shore of the pond she tensed her muscles and dove for the kill. She flew through the air only to find her maw full of snow.

The little rabbit slid onto the ice and came to a stop. Aloisia lifted her head and spat out the snow. "You aren't going anywhere" She growled watching the rabbit. The little rabbits eyes starred back, wide and full of fright. It knew it was safe as long as it stayed clear of the edge of the pond.

Aloisia began to pace along the edges of the pond. It was a small pond, so she knew she could keep the rabbit trapped if she kept her guard up. She snarled with frustration towards the rabbit. Her ears back hugging the back of her neck. She was furious now and her hunger slipped her mind. The only emotion that ran threw her veins was hate. Aloisia stopped her pacing and starred at the rabbit. "You are gonna die, weather its by my jaws or the icy water is up to you." She growled exposing her teeth. The rabbit starred at Aloisia twitching its ear as if taunting her. Aloisia grew even more frustrated. "Pathetic creature!" She shouted as she dove onto the ice. The rabbit hurried off the ice and onto solid ground just as Aloisia crashed onto the ice. The ice gave way to her weight and she descended into the freezing cold water. Her eyes filled with shock and horror she began to thrust her legs trying to reach the surface again. Once she reached the surface she gasped for air, her front paws frantically trying to grab hold of the ice around her.

Acheron padded through the damp forest floor, his eyes scanning the land around him, alert for anything that threatened the safety of his pack. The snows were still receding, and what was left of them under the protective layer of branches in the dense forest his pack resided in was little more than a clump of mush or mud. But as he neared the fringes of the trees, where the earthen floor had little protection against the white flakes, the muddy brown snow turned to white, and an audible crunch could be heard with each step. It reminded him of the lake close by, and how, unlike the stream that ran through his territory, its top became solid enough for one to walk across. Of course, even in the coldest of days, it was a risky endeavor, even more so now that the warmth of the approaching spring was close at hand. He didn't think he would visit the lake today for, in his mind's eye, he could already see it. It would offer nothing new, and he could better spend his time inspecting the strange, mushroom-shaped rock that had recently showed up on the left edge of the trees.

However, before he could even take a step away from the lake, a sharp crack rang across the air, followed by a splash. He told himself to ignore it, that it was nothing more than ice breaking in the ends of winter, but ice was such a foreign thing to him, as he had lived most of his life in a land where streams rushed past and became unable to form much ice at all, that a light of curiosity still touched at him, and he felt compelled to turn towards the origin of the noise that had evoked the feeling and lope towards it.

He went at an easy pace, expecting far from the worse and nothing more than drifting slabs of ice. But as he neared, the sound of a desperate splashing reached his ears, and, frowning, he quickened, ending up in almost a full-out run by the time he reached the water's edge. There, near the center of the small pond, he could see a small pup struggling desperately for a paw-hold. At this point in his life, it was not in him to accept nature for what it was, to sit back and watch, to determine her strength by her ability to save herself, or die in the process. In the future, it would be, but for now, only the possibility of the pup's safety remained.

He threw himself at the pond without a second thought, reaching the light-pelted form quickly with a few strong strokes of his paws despite the added weight of a soaked pelt on his back. Hastily, he grabbed the pup by the scruff of her neck and set back for shore, settling her down as soon as he could. At first, he mistook the red on her neck for blood, and worried that he had bitten her too hard, but upon closer inspection found that she appeared to suffer no wounds. The water on his fur was removed with a thorough shake, and his grown winter pelt had been enough to insulate him from the icy waters. The pup, no doubt, had not been so lucky with her young, still-growing fur, and he picked her up again and took her to a bare patch of earth, away from the snow, before he took the time to try and warm her body with his own and check her condition.

The world seem to slow as Aloisia saw a large wolf dive into the water after her. She was sure she was going to die, it looked vicious and she looked like an easy meal. She clenched her eyes shut as the wolf's mouth came towards her wide open, ready to kill, but was completely shocked as it grabbed the scruff of her neck and pulled her to safety. She shook uncontrollably. She stared into the large wolves eyes, trying to look strong. She hated feeling weak. "W-W-Why did you do that" she said in a cold weak voice. Aloisia was angry the wolf had saved her. She should have died, it was nature's way of showing she was weak, and the weak should not survive.

((sorry it's so short, didn't really know what else to put xD
They will get longer I promise ><))

((Baww, no need to be sorry. ; V; I really don't mind regarding length so long as there's something to reply to.))

Acheron began to grow at ease, and his body relaxed now that he was in familiar lands, closer to the trees of his pack. He had simply sat next to the pup, tucking her under one of his forepaws and curling his tail about her, so that nature could do its work and spread the heat between them. There was little else he could do, with no ability to conjure up a flame, and although it occurred to him that he could have sought out the rest of the pack for help, he didn't think the pup would need it. He has assured himself of that.

"Why wouldn't I have?" he replied simply, not surprised at all with her negative view. No doubt, most others would have thanked him (if they hadn't run away in fear yet), not question his motives. However, it was something he had been used to – not from others, but himself – that rendered him unconcerned. Perhaps, if he had been more worried, he would have requested she remain quiet until her shaking subsided, but he did not, and waited patiently for her response.
