(Note that most of this information may be off, as I have never played any games which had Metal Sonic in the storyline, except for Sonic Heroes. I am doing this mainly by an entry for him on www.Gamefaqs.com)
Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik, disappointed by many failed attempts to kill Sonic the Hedgehog, decided that to beat a hedgehog, use a hedgehog. Thus, Metal Sonic was born. He kidnapped Amy Rose(Sonic's fangirl)in order to make Sonic pissed and come after him. After a fight-race on a loooooong highway, Sonic won, and Metal was toasted by Eggman's lazer. However, he was rebuilt, and tried again and again to eliminate Sonic, although his flesh counterpart always managed to rid of him. He even went Neo Metal Sonic, with cape and everything, then transformed himself into a huge monster, but lost anyway.
Sonic always wondered if Metal could love, or if he was just a heartless, cold robot. He wasn't exactly sure how that could even work out(unless they created another mechanical hedgehog), yet wanted to know anyhow.
What if Metal Sonic COULD love? There'd be some slight, erm, difficulties, yes, but love overcomes those things(usually). Maybe if the right girl came along....
