Every so often, Palu had been creeping off away from her trainer. Today, she had done it once again and had maded her way, tearing and gathering thrown away papers, old magazines, small items of unattended clothing and other random things, as she had done a few times before, secretly, to the spot above the cafeteria. Here it was warm enough with the pilfered items, and safe enough, for the bird pokemon to feel comfortable about the precious items that she had built a nest for and then added around. Pidgey eggs. She coo'd softly then warbled happily as she rubbed a soft cheek on them, knowing that there would be few around to hear her up on this convenient spot. She was perhaps awaiting someone, a certain bird, as she sat by the nest feeling proud and perhaps somewhat hungry. She tilted her head though, as she heard a familiar voice calling from below; looking for her..
"Paaa-luuu?" Tam' called, peering upward to try and locate the scarf-clad pokemon. She was sure this was where she'd followed the bird out to. "Where've you got to, silly bird?"

Generally, Swiftwing and the grunt Panther had a strained but agreeable relationship. The grunt would bring offerings of food and take the large bird out to stretch his wings in new and exciting places. In return, Swiftwing would treat him like an unfledged chick, being his wings on the rare occasion and saving him and his human playmates from danger. Lately the grunt had allowed the bird out of the ball more often after the raid. Between that and the extra tasty rattata treats, Swiftwing had become a little more mellow, if a bit spoiled.
Since he had met a young bird, to whom he had courted and succeeded in building a nest with. today, once again, the pidgeot took another addition to their nest, one of the unfortunate grunt's socks.
Panther rarely worried about his pokemon's disappearances. Swiftwing was not like a certain ghost's in that he caused havoc wherever he went, that and by dinner time the bird always came back. However he had recently noticed a strange disappearance of his socks. Nika left them alone, and sebastian only when after them if they were on the floor. It wasn't until today when he caught Swiftwing reaching into the draw and taking a pair that the grunt realized where it had gone.
Why the pokemon stole his sock was beyond him, but he fallowed the pokemon down to the the area above the cafeteria, where Swiftwing used his gift of flight to get away from him. "What is that bird doing with my socks?" he mumbled to himself and nearly ran into another grunt.

Palu watched, but didn't let on yet. She knew the eggs would be taken once they were discovered, but she wasn't quite ready for such a thing. Sure, she was actually smart enough to realize that the eggs would be safer with trainers she or Swiftwing knew and trusted, and she was completely prepared to show Tambrey her eggs, but she wasn't ready to give them up -just- yet, she found. They were her and Swiftwing's babies, after all! And, speaking of the Pidgeot... there he was flying up with a new sock for the nest. Palu forgot herself and warbled at him happily in greeting.
Of course, Tambrey heard the greeting and craned her head to look just as Panther nearly walked into her. "Aha! There you are y-whoah!" She frowned, moving to the side and ending up unceremoniously on her butt. "Hey watch it, P!" She remembered the name he'd given and nicknamed him accordingly. Then frowned, catching what he said. "Wait. Bird stole your sock?"

"The bird has stolen far more then one." he grumbled in annoyance, not worrying about the nickname. It didn't matter to him what other people called him, as long as he understood it was himself they were referring to, and not an insult. He looked up at the larger bird landing on one of the beams. "What do you think you are doing? Get down here with my socks!" he demanded.
Swiftwing let out a soft greeting back, landing and folding his wings neatly along his body. He looked for a good place to use the clean material. It was about the right size and perfect for weaving into the nest. It even stretched a little if he wished it. He ignored the humans below him and checked over the nest, setting the pair of sock down long enough to check the eggs. He puffed his feathers in pride.

Tambrey grumbled as she struggled her way to her feet, self-consciously patting at her backside to dislodge any dirt or plant material that she might have picked up. "~Oh, sure, sorry for knocking you down, Tam'; here let me help you up...~" The dark-haired grunt grumbled, mimicking, as she rejoined Panther in looking up toward the roof. "He's been stealing socks, huh?" She repeated unnecessarily and peered toward where the larger bird ducked away. "Palu's been acting a little weird too; stealing things and flapping off like this... And," The glasses-clad woman frowned up at where the two birds were taking refuge. "I don't think they're listening to us.... Ya know, you should go up and get them. And then help me up, maybe? I kind of have a vague idea that we might find something interesting up there..."
Palu warbled happily as Swiftwing looked over the eggs. "Pidgeee Oh-toh!" She told the larger bird; she'd been happy with the eggs with each check so far and was enormously pleased to see matching pride upon the male's beak.

He glanced down at her and then held out a hand, an offering to help her up. "My only rideable flying pokemon happens to be up at the top of the beam. I can probably send up one of my ghost to investigate though." his gaze returned to the pokemon near the roof.
Swiftwing nodded to her and then proceed to place the socks back in the nest, making it it neat and warm.

"Thanks." Tambrey offered as she found herself being helped after all. "Well. I... guess so. Er. If it's what I suspect though, Tam's not going to like seeing our shade-fond friend..." She imagined her bird's reaction to the invasion of a ghost type into the space she and Swiftwing were occupying.
Palu hopped up to inspect the placement of the clothing, cooing happily as it was placed just right- even by the prim and proper bird's liking. She decided to take a very quick peek out at the trainers below.

In one easy motion he picked her up, having placed himself directly in front of her. "Oh right, you've only met Shadow. No, I was thinking of my Gengar. Swiftwing tolerates him much better then Shadow." he debated silently over how much effort it was going to take him to get up there. "I just want my socks back."
Swiftwing watched her gaze back down at the humans and glanced himself, spotting his human with another one, one he could only assume to be Palu's human. He let out a warning cry to them, not wanting either to disturb his offspring.

"Heh... Ya know, I have a feeling you're gonna gain more than your socks back. Look at how the birds are behaving... What does that make you think of? Plus, both Palu and Swiftwing have been... taking things. Soft things..." Tam' prompted a little, chewing on her lip as she thought about a Gengar floating up there. "I'd send someone up, but... well Palu's my only pokemon right now..."
Palu puffed herself up happily as Swiftwing let out his defensive cry and let out one of her own as she crouched beside the eggs.

That caused him to pause and look, really look at his pidgeot. The warning cries only confirmed it. "You have got to be kidding me. I hate pidgey." he grumbled the last bit mostly to himself. His bird had gotten himself, yep, that was definitely a nest. How his pokemon had managed to make a nest was beyond him.he hadn't let Swiftwing wander away that often, had he? "There is a ladder we can get. Usually it's to change the lights..." but it would be the best option in this situation. humans were the least likely to cause a fight.
Swiftwing turned and nuzzled Palu's beak. He wouldn't let the humans close.

Tambrey was stunned for a moment. She turned her head slowly and tilted it to look at Panther, like someone eyeing another after hearing them say something that might be considered 'crazy'.
"You hate Pidgey? Who the frak hates Pidgey?! They're little brown feather bombs! Adorable /and/ versatile..." She cut off what was starting to sound like a sales pitch and shook her head. "...Honestly.. Well. Yes, better us than a pokemon. Unless your bird tries to kill us... He won't try to kill us right? How about I hold the ladder, you go up and reason with your bird. He's yelling at us." She then chewed her lip "And if Palu gets uppity with you, tell her you're there to 'escort her' and stuff like that. She's a very prideful bird."
Palu warbled happily at the beak nuzzle, turning her head up to return the action. Her feathers were puffed, but she seemed comfortable enough.

He glanced at her and then laughed a little, shaking his head. She obviously loved pidgey, but it didn't change his opinion on the matter. The birds were more effort then they were worth, that and pidgey reminded him of a certain incident.
"Naw, he won't kill us. We've come to an agreement of sorts, I think." he glanced up. Perhaps not killed, but pecked a few times might be another matter. "But I might need a medic kit afterwards anyway."
Swiftwing gave out another territorial cry as if to confirm Tambrey's worries, and then he settled down next to the eggs, guarding them. His feathers remained puffed up, and he shot the humans a few glares.

"Er. Right." Tambrey frowned up at the birds; she just knew Palu was going to be a bit of a handful, but she was more worried over Panther's bird, Swiftwing. He did seem rather more aggressive than Palu and he was, of course, a larger pokemon. And he certainly seemed determined to shout and warn them about approaching his nest. She was worried he was -as- determined to actually physically 'protect' it from them.
"An agreement... Well. I know a medic kind of well... And I know what to do about pecks and bites... So uh," She looked from Panther and back up to the birds again. "Let's... Let's get this ladder."
Palu joined Swiftwing in glaring from the nest. With the large Pidgeot so determined to protect the nest, she certainly felt safe, but she warbled gently. She hoped he wouldn't be too rough with the humans; she did trust her trainer after all, just wasn't so keen to give up any eggs at that moment.

With all the racket Swiftwing was making, Panther was more concerned about him attracting unwanted attention then getting pecked. In the lunch area was not the bast place for a nest, but it was certainly better then other places, like the top of the building. That would have been bad.
"Alright, let's go get this ladder, and don't worry too much about Swiftwing. I'll deal with him." He lead the way to get the ladder from the maintenance closet. He seemed to know exactly where he was going, which he did. working as janitor sometimes included the less pleasant jobs.
Swiftwing relaxed as the humans seemed to give up. They had won, managing to frighten them away.

"Piidge ee ohto!" Palu praised as her large mate relaxed. She was confident the humans would be back, and soon, and she wasn't too worried at the prospect, but it was nice to have a mate like Swiftwing, capable of scaring threats away and prepared to advertise the fact that he could. The Pidgeotto was appreciative of such a thing and raised her head to offer a congratulatory nuzzle.
Tambrey followed Panther toward the maintenance closet, noting how familiar he seemed to be with the place and how he seemed to know where everything was kept.
"So, I'm guessing you've done this, or at least used the ladder, once or twice before then?"
