The sunshine was warm and comforting, bright and gleaming down on the grass from high above. Mid-afternoon, probably. A beautiful day!
A light wind blew lazily across the meadow, causing the taller grasses to rustle. The faint sound of birdsong swept in with each pass the wind made. And the only other sound in the empty expanse of land...?
"Tobuscus! Aren't you the cuuuuutest little thing ever?" Giggle, coo, and clap clap clap clap!

She could see it. No. She couldn't see it, but she knew it was there, just over the peak of the hill before her.
There was a meadow, so open and free that Verveine occasionally felt compelled to go there and simply sit. Sometimes with her sister, more often times alone. It wasn't often that she went, either way, but today was a warm enough day- not too hot, not too cold- and Verveine had decided to venture out.
Two small Pokemon trailed behind her, smaller, it seemed, than what was usual for their species, and they had trouble keeping up with Verveine despite her slow pace. Despite that, she did nothing to assist them, and when she reached the top of the hill she paused, staring out over the meadow with a wry smile.

Though the Charmander was small, he seemed ... appreciative of Vixxie's praise. His little chest puffed out, the tiny flame on his tail seemingly burned brighter, and his chiiirrrring was just a tad louder than it had been before.
True, Charmanders weren't particularly known for their adorableness, but. Tobuscus would take what he could get! He hadn't had the chance, yet, to show that he was adorable and ferocious (or as ferocious as one so small could possibly be) during battle, but alas.
Standing over him in the grass, Vixxie continued clapping happily. As if she were a broken record, or stuck in some sort of strange windup-Mankey-toy-with-a-cymbal kind of loop. Unfortunately, however, this was just how the Trainer was -- pleased by the simplest things. And in this case, pleased by her Charmander merely blinking up at her.

Carefully, Verveine made her way down the hill, ignoring her Pokemon until her Jigglypuff decided to attempt to run down the hill ahead of her.
It didn't end very well, and the Pokemon began to roll down the hill, cries of "Puff puff puff!" echoing behind her.
Verveine paid the pink ball of fluff no mind and continued behind at her own pace until she reached the bottom of the hill where the Jigglypuff lay huffing and puffing and generally being a drama queen.
She crouched down next to the Pokemon and poked it with a finger. "Jessipuff, you should be more careful." She giggled, though the sound was hollow. Behind her, her other Pokemon paused to examine each flower it passed, taking considerably longer to reach the foot of the hill.

Appreciative though he was, Tobuscus slowly became perplexed. He did indeed blink up at his Trainer and watched, dumbfounded, as she seemed to be filled with endless giggling. How was that happening? And why wasn't she completely out of breath yet?!
But while Vixxie's eyes were closed as she laughed, the small Charmander heard more rustling in the grass. Not a wind sound, but a sound that could only come from something or someone moving through it. He wasn't quite tall enough to see over the blades of tall grass, so he did the next best thing.
Tobuscus took off like a shot! Turning and running from his Trainer and into the thicker grass. Off towards the sound, that ... as he edged closer to it ... he could tell was another Pokemon. What else would make such little puff puff noises like that?!"Ee hee~ I've never seen a Pokemon as cute as yo--.." Pause. And when Vixxie peered down at the grass, her surprised blinks were so big they were practically audible. "Tobuscus...? Where'd you go!?"

Not happy. Not happy at all. Jessipuff twitched when poked and then jumped up to her feet, cheeks puffing out in irritation, entire body nearly doubling in size as she took in a deep breath of air. Not that she was large enough to begin with for it to be threatening.
No. The action just made Verveine giggle that hollow giggle again, and Jessipuff deflated, sullen.
"Jiggly-jiggly!" she whined at her owner and then jerked around to stare behind herself, confused. Rustling. It slowed, and when Jessipuff looked up again, Verveine was staring towards the noise as well.
Yes, there was a noise, like the rustling that preceded a wild Pokemon attacking her. She shot a look towards Jessipuff and nodded, the Pokemon immediately bounced into the grass and tackled the... Charmander?
That was strange. There were no wild Charmander in this meadow.
"Jessipuff." Her tone was flat, a command to stop. And Jessipuff did, immediately.
Verveine remained crouched towards the ground, arm around her knees, "Where did you come from little Charmander?" She asked softly, voice deceptively kind.

It wasn't an ambush! Nooo!
Once he was tackled, Tobuscus squinched his eyes shut as tightly as he could. Then, he began to flail. All four limbs, plus his fire-tipped tail, all wriggled in unison. The Charmander made a myriad of noises, most of which were varying octaves of "Chaar~ Chiir-chaaaarr!!". He hadn't even seen what tackled him -- only a blur of pink -- and then he'd ended up on his back on the ground.
Vixxie hadn't spent much time training him yet, and because of it, Tobuscus was a little oblivious (wait, or was it ferocious?!) as to what to do next. So he opted to stop his wriggling, let his tail droop, and he pretended to faint...
...until the human spoke to him. One eye popped open and he couldn't help but let his tail wag ever so slightly. Then he simply took to flailing again on the ground, as if it would somehow answer the other Trainer's question. But the loud and obnoxious sound of uncontrollable, deeply sad sobbing wafted it's way across the grass. Punctuated at the end of each sob, and before the next one could begin, with the scchhlllleeeerrppp sound of someone snuffling their runny nose right across their arm.

Jessipuff simply stared at the Charmander once she climbed off, blinking giant, blue orbs at the flailing Pokemon. She frowned and prodded at it, "Hey, hey. What are you doing?"
Verveine watched in mild amusement as her own Pokemon poked and prodded at the other, arching a perfect brow at its strange behaviour.
A wail made her cringe and dragged her gaze from the squirming Charmander towards the obnoxious noise. Oh joy. Somebody else was here. As similar to her own sister's crying as that obnoxious noise was, she knew Adoxa didn't have a Charmander, so was left curious.
Of course, all the action and noise had startled the small Cherrim lurking behind Verveine, and it latched onto her leg, frightened and trembling.
It stopped trembling the moment Verveine picked it up, though, and even squealed in delight.... As cruel as its owner could appear, she really was a softie when it came to her Pokemon.

"Do you think she understands?"
Tobuscus spoke up after a moment to the poking Jigglypuff, once he was satisfied that he'd gotten his point across. Sure, he'd been flailing in every direction imaginable, but! He figured at least once, if not twice, he'd pointed a limb towards where his trainer stood (crying, apparently).
Stopping in mid-wriggle again, the Charmander craned his head around a leg to peer at the pink puff curiously. Then, as if he'd completely forgotten being tackled, he spoke again cheerfully from his spot sprawled on the ground. "Hello there!"
Like Trainer, like Pokemon.."Tooooooobuuuuuscuuuuuuuuusssssssssssssssssss~~!!!!!!"
Oh, it was so dreadful! Vixxie stumbled around in the grass, half-blinded by her own tears, as she searched in vain for her little lost Charmander. Her first one and he was already gone.
Fallen in a ditch.
Bones broken.
Scared out of his mind.
Probably surrounded by a band of angry Squirtle with sungla--..
Another sob bubbled up out of her and she stomped her foot against the ground, half-annoyed and half-upset beyond words. "WHERE ARE YOU!?" Yeah, he'd heard her that time. And before the Jigglypuff could reply, Tobuscus swallowed a thick gulp.
"Uh oh.."

"I don't even understand." Jessipuff huffed, still poking the Charmander over and over.
A hint of a frown turned Verveine's mouth downwards and she glanced back towards the orange Pokemon. "Is that your name? Tob..us...cus...?"
Her frown deepened, the name felt strange on her tongue but she figured she wasn't saying it properly anyway, after all, it was difficult to understand what the wailing girl was actually trying to say.
"If it is, I suggest you go make your master stop crying."

When the unfamiliar Trainer spoke to him, the little Charmander writhed on the ground once more -- only in an attempt, this time, to right himself. After a moment, it worked and he popped back up.
Chirping in what he hoped was an affirmative sort of way, he wavered his tail back and forth happily as the Trainer asked his name. Truthfully, Tobuscus was an ... acquired taste, so to speak. His name either sounded like "it has a nice ring to it" or... like jibberish. But, unable to verbally confirm his name to the girl, instead he spoke quickly to the Jigglypuff.
"Like toe-bus-kiss." Nodnod, ignoring the still-constant poking. "Or Toby, that's much easier to say!"
Then he turned, ready to run off to his bawling Trainer... ..but she was already stomping through the grass in their direction. She seemed not to fully notice the other girl, but she did see a flash of orange in the brush. That was good enough.
Doing a move much like a swan dive (or a belly flop, ahem), she pounced onto the ground and scooped up her Charmander. All signs of crying gone and instead .... replaced with giggling. Again.
"There you aaarreee~ Why'd you run away?!"

Jessipuff paused her poking when it looked like Tobuscus was about to leave... And nearly had a heart attack when a mess of pink and blue tackled the ground. Or maybe it tackled Tobuscus; she really couldn't be sure. Either way, she fell backwards with a loud "P-puff!"
As much as the Charmander's squirming and flailing amused her, Verveine was beginning to find herself bored. Enough so that she rose to her full height of 4 foot 9 inches, her Cherrim still cradled carefully against her small chest.
She opened her mouth to command Jessipuff to follow when a body seemed to fly from out of nowhere, and her expression shifted into one of mild irritation.
  Verveine never was very expressive.
"Why, may one ask, are you dirtying yourself on the ground?"
She didn't really care, but her line of questioning was more to find out why this other trainer was here to begin with.

Can't breathe! CAN'T BREATHE! Buried in pink curls and tight arms and cuddlings, Tobuscus squirmed a little. He was mindful of his tail, and kept it stretched out away from Vixxie as she fawned over him, but man. This was embarrassing.
He liked being paid attention to, but not this much.. and in front of others, too?!
"Chaarrrr~?!" "I was so worried! I thought you'd gotten lost. You silly little thing, don't do that again~!"
Letting her arms go lax just enough to set the Charmander back on the ground, Vixxie stood up while trying her best to do so ... daintily. Quite a task when one is wearing a short skirt, but she managed to hop up again without flashing ... anything.
Which was a good thing, indeed, because she heard the other girl's voice. And this time, she did notice the other Trainer.
"Oh! Gosh, I didn't even see you there," she replied with another trill of soft giggling. "I'm not dirty, am I?" Turning her head, she peered backwards over her shoulder to inspect her behind. A quick brush from her palm sent blades of grass and dirt dust right back to the ground.
"Did I disturb you? I'm awful sorry. I just didn't want Tobuscus.." And she gestured vaguely with her hand towards the Charmander on the ground "..to get lost, is all."
Then she smiled brightly and moved her hand a third time, extending it towards the dark-haired girl in front of her. "I'm Vixxie!"

Verveine watched quietly for a moment and really was going to leave without an answer... But then the girl spoke and giggled and made her cringe inwardly.
She lifted her head to look at the pink-haired girl, crimson eyes raking over her- sizing her up. "No. Your presence is no more disturbing than your Charmander's." Her voice was soft, just loud enough to be heard properly and lacking very much intonation.
Her gaze fell upon the offered hand and she hesitated. Oh yes, that was proper wasn't it? Introductions? Hmm. For a fleeting moment she wished her sister was here to explain away her lack of social skills, but the moment passed.
She continued to stare, and probably would have continued still if Jessipuff hadn't began poking her leg in encouragement. Or maybe it wasn't encouragement and Jessipuff just wanted to harass the Charmander some more. Either way, Verveine accepted the hand, an empty smile spreading over her lips, "This one is Verveine."
Jessipuff poked her again.
"Jigglypuff is Jessipuff and this," she lifted Cherrim the slightest bit with the one arm still cradling her, "Is Cherry."

Now that he was free, Tobuscus took the smallest of sidesteps away from Vixxie's feet. He puffed out his chest again and, confident his Trainer wouldn't notice, he inched closer towards the Jigglypuff. Watching her prod at her own Trainer's leg, Tobuscus spoke quietly.
Though more to himself. "Sure like pokin' stuff, don't you..""Verveine," she repeated. What an .. interesting name. Not that Vixxie was all that common either, but. "It's nice to meet you. ... We both have V names! Another friend of mine has a V name, too."
She shook the girl's hand vigorously for a moment, smiling happily. But when she let go of the handshake, her eyes flitted down to the Pokemon introduced to her as well.
And the sound that came out of her was an excited squeal!
Bending down at the waist, to cast her gaze where her own Charmander stared, Vixxie's smile edged even wider. "Jessipuff, aren't you adoooooooooooorable~!!"
