Sanctimonia members strive to be as pure as they can. In order to achieve this, they follow the Seven Holy Virtues, defined as:

Chastity - Purity, knowledge, honesty and wisdom
Temperance - Self-control, justice and honor
Charity - Will, benevolence, generosity and sacrifice
Diligence - Peristence, effort, and ethics
Patience - Peace, mercy and sufferance
Kindness - Satisfaction, loyalty, compassion and integrity
Humility - Bravery, modesty, reverence, altruism

Sanctimonia members practice lifemating, and do not take on flings (OoC, this means crackbreedings are highly discouraged for these members). They mate for life, and will stay with their first and only mating partner. They may 'date' others before their mate, but would not go beyond courtship. Note: A member's mate does not have to be a member of Sanctimonia, but shouldn't be a member of any violent tribes. Only exception is their ally tribe, Saligia. Homoesexual relationships are also allowed, as equal in standing to heterosexual relationships.

Members make sure the whole is fed before indulging in large amounts of food. If supplies are scarce, each member will eat only what they have to to sustain their health. Even in such times, a sick member will be given more food, even at the cost of others. They are also very law-abiding creatures, and have their own system for dealing with serious infractions.

Sanctimonians are hard workers, eager to wake up in the morning and only rest for food until senset. They are not familiar with the idea of quitting, but neither are they easily frustrated by...well, anything. It'd be very hard to set off the fuse of a Sanctimonian, and they would likely be very abashed for it after the fact.

--

Sanctimonia recognizes that, as mortals, it is impossible to maintain complete purity. To counteract the stains of everyday life, one day a week is given over to rest and the Cleansing Ritual. One by one, each member goes to the Cleansing Pool at the base of the waterfall and bathes in the water, silently (or outloud, if they feel the need) reciting their slip-ups of the past week to Katharos. This is an entirely personal and private affair. Sanctimonians do not believe in judging each other for their faults, and thus do not intrude on each other's rituals. To do so would be highly disapproved of, and if it happened more than once (except in the case of kits), could result in a Justice Panel, where Galahad and trusted members of the tribe gather to discuss possible consequences.

A member may tell Galahad their faults of the week if they feel they were dire enough to seek advice on fixing them. This is still conducted by the Cleansing Pool.

--

Sanctimonia recognizes the Seven Deadly Sins, personified in their sister tribe, Saligia. They agree to disagree on their view on life, and are tolerant of thier fellows, knowing the sins must balance out the virtues. For this same reason, a Sanctimonian member does not assume the role of a preacher to other, less 'pure' foxes. Everyone is allowed their own life choices, and it is not for the tribe to judge.

It is not uncommon to take do a second Cleansing Ritual during the week after returning from a visit to Saligia.

--

Sanctimonia worships Katharos, Modeity of Purity. They believe that when they cross from this world into the next, he will cleanse their souls and guide them to the Afterlife, which is thought of as eternal Spring and peace.

It is important to note that there is no concept of "Hell" in this tribe. They believe all souls will be cleansed by Katharos, and do not threaten children with stories of demons in an underworld. Sanctimonians believe (although they acknowledge that they do not know for sure) that the virtuous' souls are more easily and completely purified, granting them even more happiness than your average fox in the Afterlife.

--

Events:
-Resting Day: Calculated to be every fifth sunrise. From the morning until early afternoon, each fox goes off on their own to partake in the Cleansing Ritual. The rest of the day is spent however a fox desires--napping,
socializing, singing, dancing...whatever, so long as they don't do hard labor.

-First of Spring: Although the tribe keeps no accurate astronomical records, they reckon Spring to be the first day a large storm comes through and leaves the land green after winter its wake. Spring is the favorite season of the tribe, as it symbolizes new beginnings. The week after the rains is not spent working, but is instead an entire week of rest.

-Purification Ritual: A ceremony for those who join the tribe. This is similar to a baptism ritual; all current members of the tribe gather together at the Pool to witness the new member's first Cleansing.. Unlike the usual Cleansing, sins are not professed; rather, Galahad says a small incantment as they bathe, bringing them into the recognition of Katharos as one of the pure.

Note: A kit's Purificiation Ritual is the symbol of their transition to adulthood. Unofficial members and kits (with the exception of permakits) alike are strictly forbidden from bathing in the Pool. A kit's Purification happens when they become adults, and it is only at this time that they are seen as "true" members of the tribe, able to take on a specified position and hold responsibility.

-Birthdays: This tribe loves to celebrate member's birthdays. Games and good food are indulged in.

Just an important OoC note: Yes this tribe pulls heavily from Christianity, to balance the Deadly Sins in Saligia. That does not at all mean you need to follow Christianity to join this tribe. In fact, I'm not even Christian, so while the basic concept pulls from that, it won't go beyond that.

"Say little, and love much; give all;
judge no man; aspire to all that is pure and good."

From the moment the pale blue kit opened his eyes, he could tell he was different.

Although he was given a pure name--Galahad--his existence was anything but. This, he also learned early on. He was from what the adults around him called an “affair”, and it didn’t take him long to understand that his brother’s mother wasn’t his mother.

And she certainly didn’t act like one to him either. His father had insisted on taking him back with him to be raised in his family, as an equal to his older brother, but he wasn’t one. Lucien’s mother shunned him, often pretending he didn’t exist. He soon learned to avoid her, because she made life very unpleasant when she did decide to acknowledge his existence.

She wasn’t the only one. While his father went off to find more vixens, it was common knowledge that Galahad wasn’t a legitimate son; after all, he looked nothing like Lucien’s mother. Adults often viewed him as second class, as low or lower than the dirt they walked on. Kits were taught to avoid him.

For a time, he accepted his unclean status. He spoke when spoken to, endured his brother’s behavior, and mostly kept to himself.

But by the time he was an adult, something had to give. Tired of living in constant shame, Galahad left the land where he’d grown up, intent on leaving behind his b*****d status. He traveled for some time, always by himself. He tried to interact with others, but he saw too much of the same impurities he’d left behind already. Galahad never stayed long—he sought a new, clean start, not more of the same.

"We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think.
When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves. "

Finally, after several weeks of searching, he stumbled on an uninhabited river valley.

Walking through the forest, Galahad caught himself fascinated with a waterfall crashing down off the Cliffside, pooling at its base before the water continued downriver. Curious, he carefully picked his way over rocks until he was near the center of the water, and looked down at his reflection.

It hadn’t changed since the last time he saw it. Nothing remarkable occurred, but suddenly he realized he didn’t need to go through some dramatic transformation to be rid of his father’s sins. He wasn’t his father—nor his mother, nor Lucien’s mother, and certainly nor Lucien. He wasn’t perfect, not by far, but he was different than the others. That was what really mattered, right?

For the first time in a long time, the blue male smiled. Yes, that was all that mattered. And he knew that it had to be matter to others as well. He would make a home here, a place for others to come, and ‘Deities willing, more foxes like him would come.

"Hail to you gods, on that day of the great reckoning.
Behold me, I have come to you, without sin, without guilt, without evil, without a witness against me,
without one whom I have wronged. I am one pure of mouth, pure of hands."

The dove, a sign of peace. It is strongly preferred that the tattoo be in white, unless this would keep it from showing up on the fox. The only colors not allowed for this tattoo are red and black. Others can be used, but run it by me first.

Foxes can be modfied to their heart's content, but please no dark-themed mods.

The Waterfall and Cleansing Pool
User Image

The Sanctimonia Tribe occupies a stretch of rich, green river valley. The river stretches out for miles and miles to the south until it reached the ocean, and to the north a range of small mountains. A mile or so away from the tribe's main camp is the waterfall that creates the Cleansing Pool. Galahad sits on a larger rock in the Pool when he prays.

The main camp is several hundred feet inland from the river, where the sound of rushing water can only be quietly heard in the background. Each fox has set up their own shelter, and may expand it when they're raising a family. The shelters form a circle around the main clearing/gathering places, where the members come to socialize and work. Hunters mainly sustain the tribe on fish, although they occassionally catch big game.
