((I like that song okay :< ))

It hadn't been good news.

He barely remembered the course of that night, besides bits and pieces of the giant battle he WISHED he could forget, some things that had happened after (he'd have to thank those officers who helped him properly, as well as track down Tanzanite to apologize..), and then Fayalite and Zinkenite driving him to the hospital.

The rest he didn't remember. The next thing he -did- remember was waking up to nurses standing over him with some of the most worried looks he had ever seen (one even shook her head and looked away), before blackness took over once again.

The next time Demetri Wright joined the conscious world, he found himself alone in a hospital room. How long had he been out? He...really had no idea. There was the vague idea that he was hungry but also really really -really- god damn thirsty. He ached all over, but it was a dull sort of ache like all of his senses had been put on slow-mo mode. Without thinking he went to move, and that was when the reality of the situation crashed down around ******** the blonde as pain exploded in his leg. NOTE TO SELF: stop trying to move that knee! Hell, now that he looked down at it was...that a..what the ******** was that? Whatever it was it was strapped down tightly around his knee and bending it was pretty much impossible. Which was probably a good thing, because after his little waking up outbursts a nurse scrambled in to check on him and give him the rundown.

His kneecap? Shattered. More pieces than he cared to remember but it could be summarized as really damn bad.
Treament? Surgery, they had gone in and removed parts beyond repair, while fitting the rest back together with metal. It was not something he ever wanted to hear.
Recovery? ...Questionable. He was stuck in the immobilizer for a few weeks at best, after which he was going to have to work to regain the motion in it, but it was going to have to be a wait and see thing to see just how -much- motion came back.

It all boiled down in Demy's mind to 'really ******** will I do for the Negaverse now?'.

They had done what they could though, so he was clear to go home under careful guidelines to either stay on the couch or stay in a wheelchair allowing his leg to be out straight and not -move- it. He was also, thankfully, given prescriptions for pain.

Now came the time to call up 'home' and beg it to take him back. Ring ring, went the phone to Heather's house. Demy silently pleaded for her to pick up.

Heather MacKenzie was sitting comfortably at home, drowning herself in a warm mug of hot chocolate that held a lovely kick of Irish cream. It was cold out, she was tired, and she just wasn't in the mood to talk to, well, anyone. So it came as no surprise that she simply rolled her eyes as the phone began to ring. All in all, the ringing irritated her, the sound of it cutting through the tranquility of soft, classical music playing.

A few hairs began to pick up along the back of her neck, however, and as the rings shrilly pressed on, she could all but ignore the desire to answer the stupid thing. Finally submitting to the persistent telecommunications device, she slowly dragged her lethargic self from the couch, and fumbled to grab at the phone.

The young woman held the phone to her ear for a moment, the caller ID having tagged it as 'unknown caller' (she wasn't concerned about debtors, she owed nothing) perhaps she figured they'd speak and she could decide whether the call would be worth continuing on with. Unfortunately, all she got was an awkward silence, and a thin frown pressed from her lips.

"Hello?" she finally spoke, the heft of her disdain for being made to get up from her couch was very clear in her voice. She did not want to talk.

"Heather?"
The voice on the other end sounded a bit distraught, but held a tone that clearly identified it as Demy. Just in case it wasn't enough though, he introduced himself.

"Heather, it's Demy! I...I dunno how to ask this, you're probably still mad at me and stuff but I -really- need some help. Like...really really. Really. Really."

A pause.

"...Could you come pick me up from the hospital?"
PostPosted: Wed Feb 09, 2011 5:13 pm

As the voice on the other end of the phone began to speak, Heather looked down into her cup, and wondered if, perhaps, she'd added just a bit too much Irish Cream. It only took a few moments to realize that she was still pretty sober, and that...

"Demy?" she furrowed her brow, scrunching her nose at the boy (as if he could really see her), the frown wavering to a look of sheer confusion. "Mad? Ye... HOSPITAL? The hell Demy, THE HELL? Ugh. FINE. I will be there in half an hour. I'm not hunting for you though so you better be down in the lobby area." she growled before hanging up, not letting the boy get a word in edgewise.

Heather grumbled as she took her cup into the kitchen, dumping the contents out in the sink. What a waste. Demy had better be good and hurt, because if he wasn't, he'd probably be needing another room at the hospital. She silently promised that before getting ready to head out the door.

Demy looked confused as he slowly hung up the phone, and when a nurse came in to check on the poor kid he briefly explained he needed to go downstairs to meet his ride. The lady looked confused as well, but considering the times she'd seen kids take -themselves- home at least this one had a ride.

About twenty-five minutes later and Demy had been set up in a wheelchair with a brace for his leg to keep it up and unbent. The nurse had wheeled him downstairs and set him up with a bottle of water to drink before leaving him be once he explained for the tenth time that he'd be fine.

Really, he wasn't. Acid eyes roamed the area to take in everyone else. Were any of these people Senshi? What if they were? What if they saw his condition, then later saw him as Scheelite and connected the dots? What if...?

He opened the bottle of water and took a sip, trying to calm himself and quit worrying. For right now he had to focus on recovering...and hopefully not pissing off Heather.

It wasn't the first time she'd pulled up to the hospital for the kid, but it was the first time she'd done it while he was coherent. Also the first time she'd had to pick him up. She pulled her car up to the pickup area, and got out, making her way into the lobby and holding her hand to shield her eyes while she scanned for the blond. It was only a few moments before her eyes fell on the familiar figure, though, to her own personal dismay, he was more than a little banged up (she suppose then that she'd have to leave him without further wear and tear).

"Demy?"

She quickly made her way over, placing a hand on his shoulder. "... What the hell happened to your leg? Oh god, nevermind, let's talk about it at home..." there was hot chocolate at home, and less prying ears as some people were looking over at the girl who was clearly too young to be his mother, picking him up over parents. Some older people looked mildly disgusted by the idea. To this she rolled her eyes and offered to help Demy to the car.

The blonde looked extremely relieved to see her, and paid no attention to the questioning looks of others. He lifted a hand to put over her hand, and turned those sad green eyes up on her.

"I...can't walk."
He whimpered, gesturing to the wheelchair.

"I can wheel myself though! Really!"
Demy shook away the sad look and started to wheel himself to the door. By god he was going to do some things on his own and not be a total burden on everyone around him.

Unfortunately the medicine had left him tired and weak, so his pace wasn't exactly that -quick- and he was wearing out pretty fast.

"You dummy." Heather said as she caught up to the wheeling Demy, grabbing hold of the handles on the back of the wheelchair, effectively putting on the brakes as far as the worn out kid would have been concerned. "I noticed you can't walk, I figured that out on my own. Not that oblivious. I more or less meant how the hell did it happen?"

With her question asked, she began to push the chair the rest of the way to the car, helping Demy get in. "Wait here a sec, I'm going to return the chair... we're gonna have to get you something to use at home. I don't feel like taking a crutch to the back of the head anytime soon." which is exactly what she imagined would happen if she left him to his own devices with a pair of those evil things.

It was only a few moments before she returned and settled into the car.

"Okay. Spill."

At least she wasn't yelling at him for being a dumbass and running away. Being yelled at for being a dumbass trying to overexert himself was a step up from that. He was mostly silent as she wheeled him out, and only whimpered slightly when maneuvering himself into the car. To Heather he nodded, and threw in some comment about "I wouldn't throw a crutch at your head!"

...On purpose of course. He wasn't exactly the most graceful kid around.

While alone in the car he fidgeted around, trying to get more comfortable. Cars were difficult when you couldn't bend your leg, but he eventually settled into something that would -do- until they got home. When Heather came back he glanced over at her, stared out his window a moment, then finally broke down and told the story while they headed off to the next destination.

"That...big fight, in the fields that we were supposed to claim from the Senshi? That fight was crazy. So much going on and I got so caught up in what I was doing. Zink went down, I saved him! Was trying to take on someone coming over to fight him while he was down....and another Senshi came in. She had a spear. I didn't get impaled! But it did hit me right in the knee."

The story was rushed and elaborated on with hand gestures and the like. But here he paused a moment, looking sad again.

"It's...shattered Heather. Really bad...there's all kinds of metal and stuff in there that doesn't belong and they don't know how it'll heal and how well I'll be able to use it and..."

He choked back a sob, covering his mouth before it turned into a full out bawl.

Heather listened quietly as Demetri told his story. When he'd finished and broken down into his sobbing mess, she didn't say anything right away. Instead she just continued to drive. Though she wasn't heading home. No. She pulled the car into a pharmacy and parked it nearer to the front of the building.

She turned and looked at the boy with a deadpan stare.

"You are going to be fine. Stop crying. Be glad you're alive and that Zink is alive. We'll figure this out together and get you through this." there was another short pause before she continued.

"I'm going in here to grab something, I shouldn't be very long. Okay? Okay." with that, she handed Demy the remote for the radio in the car and hopped out.

Least he'd have something to listen to while she was out.

Demy looked up, confused at their stop and even more confused when Heather shoved the remote into his hand and stepped out.

"Um...k-kay Heather..."

He waited until she was inside, staring at the store a moment and then down at the remote. Maybe he should just leave it off, sit in silence and wait for Heather to come back...

A moment later and the radio was set to some obnoxious rock song, at a volume loud enough to drown out his sorrows.
PostPosted: Wed Feb 09, 2011 6:42 pm

When Heather came back, there was a gentleman following her with a small trolley that was arrying a rather large box. She popped the trunk, and they placed it in. Thanking the men, her eyes looked into the car. The sound that had escaped the trunk had been nothing short of loud. Really, she should have known better when she'd given him the remote, but she hadn't, honestly, expected him to try to blow out her car's speaker system.

Opening the door, she winced and turned her ears away from the sound as best she could. Reaching across the dash, she turned it way down and looked at him. "Little loud, maybe you should keep it a touch quieter to avoid adding 'deaf' to your list of disabilities right now." she shook her head.

"Alright, going home now, just so you know."

One day she'd learn that Demy always did the things she didn't expect him to do. It was one of his many AMAZING traits!

He had been in the middle of singing along (eyes shut, loud and obnoxious, of course) when first he heard the trunk open and something loaded in. The blonde continued singing, eyes now open, until Heather popped into the car and turned down the radio.

"Awwwwww!!"
He pouted a bit, not really upset but still feeling the need to express some kind of displeasure of his music being turned down.

And a moment later...
"What's in the trunk?"
He twisted himself around as far as he could (which wasn't far at all), trying to glance towards the back of the car. Not that he couldn't -see- anything but...well it was worth a try.
PostPosted: Wed Feb 09, 2011 7:02 pm

"You'll find out later. Either by not asking again and seeing it when we get home, or by asking about it again and finding yourself stuck in the trunk with it." she made a face before starting the car and heading towards home.

It didn't take long to get there, though the silence made it feel like forever. When they landed she told Demy to stay put for a few minutes while she dragged the box out of the trunk of the car (this was accompanied by a fair amount of cursing and general bitching). All in all it actually took about 10 to 15 minutes for her to complete this task, but when she got the door open to get Demy out, it soon became apparent to exactly what was going on.

While she'd been at the pharmacy, she'd been looking to pick Demy up another wheel chair, since she couldn't keep the hospital one. While she'd been looking, she'd spied something quite awesome. A motorized wheelchair. It'd save her from having to help him out all the time.

...

Though she was suddenly grateful she had a one level home instead of two.

"There. For you. Don't ******** it up. In the house. Now."

Being left in the car sucked. The time span was definitely longer than a few minutes and felt even LONGER due to his injuries which screwed up his basic nature of being an overly hyperactive boy. He wanted to fidget around, to jump out of the car and run circles around Heather and giggle and pretty much just be annoying as all hell.

Instead he was stuck in the car, arms folded and pouting slightly as he listened to Heather bang around outside. If it wasn't for the fact he could hear her cursing, he might have wondered if she had simply left him out here and gone inside.

Then the door opened and Demy blinked out at her...and then blinked at what the pharmacy pickup had been.

...That was a wheelchair.

...A motorized one.

"For me?"
The blonde gave a happy flail and attempted to flailwiggle his way out of the car. Really, a kid shouldn't be so damn excited over a wheelchair. But the moment he was -in- the wheelchair it was apparent why he thought it'd be cool.

"VROOOM"
Yeah, that was him making car noises. On the wheelchair.
