Jove wandered aimlessly around the schoolyard, on his first day at the prestigious Amityville Academy. Although he had seen many things so far, he was still lost amidst the intimidating buildings, frightening students, and the sounds of students and other creatures coming and going between classes. It wasn't at all what he had imagined.

His guardian had talked about this academy, told Jove it would be a good experience, and had been overjoyed to receive the acceptance letter. "You will learn so many new things, and meet many people," he told Jove, and the pup had been happy. Then there was a vigorous round of packing, with many assurances that mid-semester transfers were not uncommon, and his dorm would feel just like home, etc, etc, and the very next day they were off to visit the school.

However, Jove hadn't expected to be dropped off, with vague instructions like "Go explore the campus, make some friends!" and a promise that his luggage wold be dropped off later in the day.

'How will I ever find my way around?' he thought to himself, watching a passing student determinedly stride towards what was likely an important class. 'Why was I so happy to come here?'

A lucky accident had left the marid with 2 classes that morning, and the entire afternoon free to herself. It had not, however, seemed to fit to extend to any of her friends, or a certain charming nergal demon. It left Yaya was very little to do, and no one to do it with.

For a short time after her last class the demoness had wandered, though that had gotten old mighty fast. She wasn't the sort for aimless walking, no matter how pretty the grounds of the academy my be. So she was content to take a seat beneath a favored tree, lounging back with blue ear buds tucked into dark ears, her eyephone cradled in her lap.

She was actually on the verge of a very promising nap when something blue caught her eyes. A new student, by the looks of it, a rather short, adorable one, and Yaya couldn't help but smile at him.

He seemed a little.. misplaced? Lost. Something, and she got to her feet to wander over to him, pulling her ear buds from her eyes as she walked. "Hey, are you new?"

What? Was someone talking to him?

Jove glanced over towards the source of the female voice, so far the first person to talk to him in this huge school. His perked ears turned to face her, and then his body followed suit, slowly and shyly as he eyed the other student. He had never really seen anyone with such pretty, exotic clothing, and even though his caretaker had told him sniffing was impolite, he scented the air quickly and subtly to get a better sense of her. If he had ever been to an ocean, he would have recognized the scent.

She seemed friendly, but the closer she came, the tighter his fluffy tail pressed against the back of his legs.

Oh, yes... She would probably want an answer to that question, it wouldn't do for him to get off on the wrong foot with the first person he met on campus. Jove nodded once, and gave a small, supplicating tail wag to express his humble 'I am new and not looking for trouble' state.

The cord to her ear buds was slung around her neck and tied in a lazy knot to keep them in place, and she tucked her phone back withing the waist of her skirt as she came to a stop before the small boil and smiled down at him. He really was a young thing, and the adorable twitch of fluffed ears as she spoke only enhanced a cuteness level that she wasn't entirely certain he'd appreciate her pointing out.

It was a difficult thing though, not to simply pull him into a hug, especially with that curled tail wagging gently in response to her inquiry. "I'll take that as a yes, then?" She gestured vaguely at his tail, then held her hand out to him. "Well, I'm Hadiyya, though you can call me Yaya if you prefer."

The lazy little smile she was wearing grew. "I could show you around, if you like. It's a big place." She knew from experience how confusing the layout could be to someone in their first week. Once you got used to it though making your way around the school became something like second nature.

Jove startled dramatically as the older student's hand moved in his direction, jerking his body back a step in a reflexive movement that was only one step away from fleeing entirely. 'She's not going to do anything,' he thought, mentally talking himself down from the edge of running. 'See, it stopped. You're just being silly.'

The ghost blushed slightly, his cheeks literally glowing in embarrassment as he stared fixedly at the ground. The last thing he wanted was for the first person he met at the school to think he was a scaredy cat. With a stubborn frown he shook her hand in a clumsy imitation of the greetings he had seen his caretaker perform, and then nodded his head twice this time.

'I might even be able to find my room before my stuff gets here,' he thought to himself, daring to glance up at his companion very briefly.

My, he certainly was a jumpy little thing. She didn't take that slight flinch personal though. Frankly, she didn't take much of anything personal unless she was absolutely certain of the intent behind an action and phrase. She kept her hand held out between them, despite the jerk, until he returned the shake, then let it fall back to her side.

He hadn't introduced himself yet, in fact he hadn't spoken at all, and she found herself wondering if he was able to or not. Her earrings and chains caught the sun as she tilted her head, smiling down at him curiously. "Do you have name?"

It would be good to know what to call him. she could have come up with a nickname, but it probably would have been something cutesy, and she didn't think he'd like it much. Fair better to just have his name instead.

The ghoul was still smiling, and the pup could only take that as a good sign. Not only was she smiling, but it seemed as if she hadn't noticed his reaction at all! Or, at least, wasn't bothered by it.

Jove didn't smile in return, but he relaxed his stance somewhat and tilted his head to match hers. It was almost an unconscious gesture, she looked curious, and he became curious about her curiosity. With the question his ears perked up. 'It's a plain name, not fancy at all,' he thought, giving the ghoul a slow nod in reply. After a second of silence he introduced himself in a soft, quiet voice, "Jove."

That answering head tilt earned him a brighter smile, and even a soft chuckle as she straightened. "Jove? That's unique." And fitting as well. Her attention kept roaming up from baby blues to the adorable lengths of plush ears. Junko would simply die, she loved fluffy ears.. Odd ghoul.

"So where would you like to go first?" Crossing arms loosely, she turned her head towards the main building of the school, then back towards the dorms. "Perhaps the dorms so you can see where you'll be staying?" Yes, that seemed like the best course of action. Start with his room and then work their way from there.

"You're a ghost, so you'll be staying in the ghost dorms. All the main races have their own, you see." She gestured idly towards their destination before turning to lead him that way. "Ghosts, monsters, reapers, undeads, and demons. That's where I live." Wow, she was mighty talkative today, though perhaps she was simply trying to make up for the pup's lack of talking. Who could say.

She did know she had a distinct urge to pet him, and if she wasn't certain he'd flinch away, she'd have done it already.

Jove blushed timidly, his cheeks actually lighting up wisp style with a soft glow. She was so friendly! This wasn't nearly as scary as he thought. When he glanced up at her, there was sincere gratitude in his eyes.

His tail gave another short wag as he nodded his answer. The dorms would be a perfect place to go, he would like to see where he was living for the next few years. And then he could even show his caretaker where to bring his toys. Er... not that he would admit his caretaker was bringing dog toys to his highschool. Toys were for dogs and children. And he was not a dog right now, and definitely not a child!

He dashed ahead, all puffed up with his adult thoughts, his ears perked up as if to say 'Yaya, let's go! I'd like to see everything!'

That wagging tail was just absolutely adorable, and again she was struck with the urge to pet him. She resisted, though it took a fair amount of self restraint. As he darted ahead of her she laughed, pressing a knuckle to her lips to quiet the sound before moving forward to gain a place at the young ghost's side. "This way then." She chirped happily, folding arms behind her back so she could hold her own elbows. If she didn't keep her hands busy she was likely to reach out at random and touch, and she really didn't want to scare him off.

As they walked she glanced down at him, musing curiously. "So you don't talk very much, do you?" Or perhaps just not to new people. He seemed a little nervous, and she couldn't say she blamed him. The school was huge, and filled to the brim with the strange and scary.

Jove walked with a perky step, occasionally glancing at his companion as he trailed along at her side. Then he mimicked her stance, folding his arms behind his back and taking rather carefree strides. It was a little incongruous with his unsmiling face, like he was simply a lifelike little doll practicing being human.

But that wasn't far from the truth, Jove was still learning about his humanoid form, and all the two-legged prancing that went along with it. Living with a stuffy old British vampire hadn't exactly taught him freedom of movement, certainly not the way Yaya seemed to enjoy, what with the jingling jewelry and flowing skirts... It was kinda fun to walk like she did.

He looked up at her with big, curious eyes, and shook his head. Talking just wasn't something he did much.

It was lucky the djinn had let her gaze linger on the little wisp after he'd started mimicking her, or she might have missed that little shake of head. So not a big talker, but that was ok. If she'd learned one thing from her friend Christof, it was that a person could communicate just dandy without using words.

She grinned down at him, clearly amused by him, then turned to glance at the building they were currently walking past on their way towards the dorms. "See that building there? That's the cafeteria. The foods pretty good. They also host parties there sometimes." She brought a hand around to point, then flicked a fingertip to the building to the side and a bit behind it. "That over there is the gym and also the pool." One of her favorite places.

As they moved past the cafeteria the marid rested a hand gentle on the younger boil's shoulder. Steering him gently down the path towards the five dorm buildings. "There's the dorms up ahead." She glanced down at him again, dark brows arching curiously. "So are you excited?"

Jove tried to commit all those places to memory, so he wouldn't get lost later. The cafeteria would be important, even though he didn't need to eat, and the gym, where he knew he had to be for a gym class next week... And was he picking up on some favourable tones from the ghoul when she mentioned the pool? That was where people swam, like a big clean pond, right?

The ghost opened his mouth to ask about it, a one word question at best, and that was when he felt the hand on his shoulder. "Pool?" came out more like "YIIIP!" as he squeaked out his fright, and then both his hands flew up to cover his mouth in an expression of sheer dismay. 'Oh skulls...' he thought, his cheeks glowing even brighter than before.

At least he had been looking the other way and missed the hand's approach, otherwise he might have seen the pool first hand, as he ran past it in sheer terror. His brows lowered, as if to say 'I didn't mean that.' When his hands dropped back to his sides he wore a stern expression, and then gave a decisive nod. Now that he wasn't wandering aimlessly, he was rather excited to be there.

The sudden squeak was enough to make the djinn jump herself. Absolutely started by the little foxfire beside her, she stared down at him with wide, concerned eyes. The grip on his shoulder tightening gently. "Are you ok?" Clearly that one tiny touch couldn't have caused such a large reaction. Had he stubbed his toe? She didn't think so. Those shoes seemed sturdy enough to prevent against that.

Maybe it had been her hand. She glanced at her own dark fingers resting against the paleness of his shoulder then withdrew them, a tiny frown replacing the concern. "My apologize, I didn't mean to startle you." That hand hung in the air between them for a second or two as if she wasn't quite sure what to do with it, then she let it fall back to her side. "I also apologize if you don't want to be touched. It's not really something I think about in all honesty."

At least he had nodded to her question, and that alone brought that friendly smile back. "Well that's good. I think you'll like here. There are so many unique people, and the classes are pretty fun." She paused, pursing lips thoughtfully. "The field trips leave much to be desired though."

The little ghost snorted at precisely the right time to indicate he had not been startled THAT bad. Only a little. And it was because he... uh, had a condition, or something. An awkward ghosty condition that made him run from things. Not that he was actually scared. Really.

It was a good thing he wasn't inclined to voice his thoughts, or the excuses alone would have pinned him as a terrible liar. Even the grumpy scowl growing on his face was tempered by the embarrassed glow in his cheeks. In one last effort to prove he was fine, he reached over to hold her hand, all the while looking the other way like a petulant child. See, nothing to it.

After a second he glanced back at Yaya, only looking slightly disgruntled. "Field trip?"
