Alasiri jumped from the top boulder that made up his makeshift den.The expression on his muzzle grim as he set his shoulder to the large rock. Pushing with all of his weight, the male lion caused the overbalanced chuck of earth to teeter and fall into the wedge of the other two monoliths.
Exactly where I wanted it...he thought to himself, looking over his work with a critical eye, that should keep the rain fully out of the den now. I don't want Kabaazi to worry about that in the future...Forefathers, I don't want her to worry about anything ever again. He sighed, and shook his shaggy mane, scolding himself, You've got it bad Alasiri, and for a lioness whose heart already belongs to another. You're sis would be laughing at you if she were here.
Muttering under his breath for the narrative in his head to shut up, he went back to contemplating on how to make the den from bachelor - makeshift to there is a female- staying -here-and-it-needs-to-be-dry-and-safe.

Kibaazi was growing stronger with access to fresh and abundant food, which meant she was actually able to collect her herbs again, without feeling like she would fall over at the slightest breeze. It was a liberating feeling, she thought to herself, sniffing along the grass to find a particular herb. It was because of the sweet male who had taken her under his wing and supported her. Alasiri. Although she rarely met anyone outright cruel, she had not expected to find someone quite as nice as he was to her. She smiled to herself, locking her jaws around a familiarly scented herb, tugging a few leaves from the plant. Perfect.
She wasn't collecting them for a particular remedy, but they were simple plants which would help with day to day scrapes. She was not far from the den when she heard the boulder fall and lodge in place. The noise was loud, and to a blind female who could not see what the male was doing, slightly scary. Her head jerked up and a frown worked across her face. She placed the collected leaves in a pile were she would hopefully be able to find them again, before shifting back towards the den.
"Alasiri?" She called out, cautiously. What if he had fallen and hurt himself? A pang of worry shot through the slender female.

Alasiri turned to look over his shoulder at the lioness, the worry in her voice making him frown, " I am here Kibaazi," his earth tone voice was gentled, like it usually was when he addressed her.
Turning toward her, he padded over to stand beside her, brushing her ear with his muzzle lightly, " What is wrong Lady?" he asked softly, resisting the urge to bring her closer against him with his paw.
" Did you hurt yourself?" He swept his violate eyes over her, making sure she wasn't bleeding, or had been stung or bit.

Kibaazi felt relieved when she heard the rich sound of his voice, reassuring her that he was alright and that he was still nearby. Although she had expected him to be nearby, she still started when his muzzle brushed her ear, though she tried to hide it behind a small smile.
"I heard a loud noise," she explained, feeling rather childish that it had startled her so much. "I thought you might have hurt yourself," she continued, looking a little sheepish. "Clearly, that wasn't the case."
She wished she could see, so that she didn't need to ask her next question, though it was necessary else she would just continue to wonder aimlessly. "What were you doing?"

"Ah...." he chuckled softly, giving into the paw urge and drawing her a little closer to him, " I did not mean to frighten you. I should have warned you I was moving the boulder from the top of the den."
The larger male looked down at her, a amused smile on his muzzle, and echoing in his expressive eyes, " I am fixing the den Lady, making it more comfortable for you. It was merely a male's scratch den, but with a little work, it can be weather proof and a little more spacious for you."

She went willingly as he moved her closer to him, smiling a little in relief that he was merely moving things around, and not doing anything really dangerous. She rested her head against him lightly, pleased to have some support to lean on - in more ways then one. "It's okay," she assured him. "I was just...surprised by it."
She was further surprised by his explanation, touched by his gesture. "That's very sweet of you," she told him warmly, but hesitated, turning her face away from his slightly. "But you shouldn't change your den for me." She felt guilty that he'd gone to such trouble to help her already. "Since...I can't stay," she said with a slight wince. He'd do all this work and then she'd just leave? She felt selfish. "Not that I'm leaving now, just..." she went on to explain, "If I stay here, I'll never find Majaliwa."

Alasiri smiled as she leaned against him, lowering his head so his chin rested atop hers as she continued to speak, " I know you can not stay forever Lady, but you are still weak, and need a little more time to put the weight you lost back on."
He nuzzled her ear when she turned away, keeping his paw along her back, " I am happy to do this for you, and I still am hoping you will allow me to accompany you to find him." Alasiri leaned away slightly, his paw coming to lift her chin up, to bring her pale eyes up to his own violet one, " I do not wish you to be alone in the Rogue Lands, and I will gladly escort you to him."
The dark colored male did not voice his next thought, but had Kibaazi been able to see, she would have seen the growing feelings the male was having for her, ...if you allow me to go with you Lady...then that is more time I may have with you, and a chance to tell your mate how lucky he is to have you....sweet, beautiful, Kibaazi...

Kibaazi gave him a wobbly smile. Why was he so nice to her? He had been so generous already and yet he still wanted to do more for her. Unfortunately, without her sight, Kibaazi was clueless for his growing feelings for her, and had she been able to see, perhaps she would have come to realise that this was not out of pure selflessness that he wished to follow her.
"I couldn't ask for you to leave everything you have, on a whim for me," she told him firmly, giving him a warm smile, amused at the way he tilted her chin up although she could not see. "I will be alright, especially if I become healthy and full when I am to leave, then little food would not bother me as much."

The large mail chuckled gently, letting the growing emotion he had for the blind healer creep into its warmth. " I am hardly leaving anything Lady. Have you forgotten, I am searching for someone as well."
He shook his head, nuzzling her ear again, " I will not let you go into these wilds without me. Refuse me Lady, and I will merely follow behind you. I will see you safe to Majaliwa's paws." Alasiri closed his eyes against the swift pain that followed those words.
Rather though that I could keep you in my own paws. If I were a lesser lion, I would never return you to your mate. He was a fool to wander from your side...and I am a fool for returning you to his.

She sighed, pleased to hear the warmth in his tone, which was really like a warm pelt wrapped around her. It made her smile gentle and nodded "You are far too sweet to me, Kind Sir," she told him, with a soft laugh before resting her forehead against his chest, her face hiding in his mane.
"I suppose I must agree, or fear that I'd gain a stalker," she teased lightly. "Thank you," she added after a few moments of silence, her tone far more serious then her previous comment. "I don't know how I will repay you for this, both Majaliwa and I are poor and have little to offer in return."
She pulled back a little, smiling up at him. He truely was too kind to her, and she had yet to figure out why. Perhaps he was simply a gallant knight and thought her a damsel in distress? Which she was, in a way. Maja, I hate that you left me, but I am grateful, else I would not have met Alasiri, and he would not have been such a friend to me, she thought fondly to her lost friend.

It would have hurt less had she bitten him, those simple words, about her and her mate. Swallowing against the pain in his chest, he steadied his earth toned voice, " There is no need to worry Lady, your companionship is enough payment."
Her gentle smile was like another bite, but he welcomed it, and found himself lifting his paw to tenderly brush her fur away from her milky eyes, " While I am beside you Kibaazi, you have nothing to fear, nothing to worry about. I will protect you with my life, and see you safely to him."

Kibaazi continued to smile at him, unable to believe her luck to have found someone like him. "I wish I could help you too," she told him mournfully. "But I fear I'd be of little help in finding your sister. A blind seeker is rather useless, I've found." She'd failed to find Majaliwa on her own, and if she found him, she knew it would be through Alasiri's help, not her own.
She lent against him again, using him as support and taking delight in his warmth, despite it wasn't cold out. She just liked the support he gave her. "Perhaps once we find Maja, we could seek out your sister? We could travel as a group?" She would be of little use in finding her, but she could keep Alasiri company while he sought her out, she thought.

Alasiri smiled gently, the edges of it laced with sorrow, his paw smoothing back her fur again, " I would not ask that of you Lady," he said very softly, his words almost nothing more then a warm breath against her ear as he pulled her a little closer against him.
" I will see you to him Lady, so that he may take care of you, and keep you safe. Then I will continue my search for my twin. Once I know you will be protected."
The male laid his head along her nape, hugging her tenderly, " I can go on, knowing you are safe Lady. Knowing you are taken care of, and will not have any wants in this world."

"But I wish I could do something to help you too," she insisted, with a sigh, closing her eyes as he pulled her closer. She rested against him as he hugged her, embarrassed by his words - but pleased. "Don't say things like that," she told him lightly, with a soft laugh in attempts to lighten the serious mood, "you make it seem like I am something to be given away, like an item to be treasured."
She nudged him playfully, and gently, before backing away. Perhaps she shouldn't act so touchy-feely with him, she thought. She had always been affectionate with Majaliwa as a cub, since neither had many cuddly-relatives, so they found support in each other. She often forgot that others were not raised that way, or that they were not that ready to embrace.

Alasiri smiled at her, even if she could not see it, it gave him great joy to do so. Sighing softly as she nuzzled into him, he held her a little tighter, not really letting her back away.
" Oh Lady, you do not know what a treasure you are, and that if I had any choice in the matter, I would never give you away." He rumbled at her, affection laced into the warm tones of his voice, he nuzzled her fur for a moment more, then let her go.
" I have a little more work to do before I am ready to go hunt our evening meal. Why don't you rest a bit here in the den. I changed out the rushes for you this morning."
