The world was still crisp and cool, bathed in light only moments ago. A thin mist still lingered over the landscape painting it in an eerie haze. He had risen from sleep when the sun still lie dormant beneath the horizon. Ever since he was a foal he and his brother would rise before the sun, their father driving them on without mercy. Even though both his father and brother were long dead he still traveled, being driven by an invisible pull that called to his very blood. He had walked over many different terrains, passed through many territories and seen many different soquili going on with their lives. He had even once stopped to admire a mother and father playing with their children. Only once had he ever thought of settling down with a lovely mare and producing offspring. It was more of a game of pretend he played within his mind when he was young. He had watched the foal bounce around happily before nuzzling it’s mother and father affectionately. A sickness welled up within his gut and he was made to leave. Love was only a key to the door of pain; the more you loved the more able you are to be hurt. He had loved once; loved his brother and father and then his father turned into something he couldn’t stand, and in the end both of them were taken from him. With a shake of his head that sent his red mane flopping about his neck. He hadn’t even noticed that the ground beneath his feet had turned into little pebbles rather than soft soil.
Jagged rocks rose above his head and still he hadn’t begun to notice them. Trees fell away to canyon like walls but none of that mattered to him. Eventually his traveling drove him into a gully that would eventually spill out into a forest. His father had once told him to avoid areas where the walls grew narrow; telling him it was far too easy for something to set a trap. He had stopped noticing or paying attention to where he wandered long after his brother had left this earth. Now it was almost as though he were just going through the motions, following an invisible lead that could possibly take him anywhere and to anyone.
