General Information

Full Name: Cuan Everard
Name Meaning: Cuan - little wolf, little hound Everard - brave boar
Gender: Male
Age: Twenty-nine
Faction: Aphotic

Appearance

Height/Weight: Stands at 5'8" and weighs about 170 pounds - all muscle
Skin: Fairly dark, tanned and weathered. He has a scar as if some wild animal scored a hit with it's tusk/horn on his left forearm.
Hair: Dark brown, falling to just under his chin, usually back in a ponytail.
Eyes: Brown, with hints of green near the pupil
Wings: Brown and dark green
Clothing: Something similar to a Gondorian Ranger's outfit (without the heraldry, of course); dark colored fabrics with select pieces made of toughened brown leather. He does wear a cloak with a hood, but the latter is usually down.
Other: For weapons, he carries a longbow and a quiver of arrows, and two knives (stored similar to the way Legolas' were) on his back along with a short sword belted around his waist. He also carries a utility knife in a boot sheath; useless for fighting, but essential to his survival. His weapons are of good quality, but obviously well used. (Totally understand if these can't be in the art. XD They're here mostly for my reference. XD)

Personal Information

Magical Abilities
True-Shot - By using a spell that must be uttered aloud (increasing chances his prey will balk and run) Cuan can modify the aim of his arrow slightly with magic, helping it fly in a more true manner to his target. However, it requires a good deal of concentration, and requires time to 'recharge'; he can't use it again without taking time to rest the spell. Also, it can't modify his aim completely - if he aimed straight up into the air, the spell wouldn't cause the arrow to veer off course and hit his target. He still needs to aim well; this just gives him a bit of an edge, and makes a killing shot more sure.

Test the Water - A spell that has saved his life on more than one occasion, this is used to tell if water has gone bad or is stagnant. At a spoken word, a mist will hover over the water source; if the water is good, the mist turns gold. If it's bad, the mist turns black. This spell has no backlash worth mentioning, and he uses it every time he needs to refill his water supply.

Nonmagical Talents
Weapons Master - Since he was a child, Cuan has studied the several types of weapons that make life for a 'ranger' type easier. He is best with his bow, but is quite capable with his daggers and sword... though he'd rather use the sword, if it comes down to it, liking to keep distance between him and his foe. He is interested in leaning other weapons, but usually isn't in town long enough to try and find a teacher.

Surviver - Cuan can make it just about anywhere, as long as there's something he can kill to eat. He isn't afraid of roughing it, doesn't mind extreme conditions or getting dirty. He's learned how to tell which plants are poisonous and which aren't, what parts of an animal make for the best meals. He knows how to skin animals fairly quickly, and how to start fires with few available materials. In the city, he's a little less sure of himself, but still manages to make his way around fairly well.

Camouflage - Generally covered in mud and leaves and twigs anyway, the man finds it fairly easy to blend into the shadows of the woods he calls home. Having worked hard to still his breathing and movements as much as possible, he can go pretty much invisible; so much so that he never bothered to try and learn a spell to achieve the same effect. This is very useful when hunting, or when he simply wants to observe the goings on around him.

Quirks
Despite his ability to face down a wolf or bear without blinking, social situations cause cold fear in the man. While he manages to function fairly well, if he finds himself in a group of more than four, he goes quiet, earning him a 'strong silent type' label in the area of Cyrus he stays in when not in the wilderness. If the group goes to more than ten, he'll find an excuse to leave. Without the trees and bushes of the forest to hide in, Cuan feels almost naked in the city. It's loud, and crowded, and dirty, without the fresh clean scents he finds in the forest. Because of all of this, it's rare for him to stay in Cyrus for longer than a week or two; one notable exception was when he was courting a woman.

Because he spends so much of his time in the woods trying not to be seen, he almost always has his wings completely dimmed. He often forgets that he doesn't need to do this in the city, and walks through the streets with no wings, an odd sight to most faeries. When questioned about it, as he sometimes is, he'll often blush and quickly call them back into existence, stammering an excuse.

Despite his chosen profession as hunter, Cuan adores animals of all kinds; he always tries to make his kills in one shot, not wanting his prey to suffer needlessly. He also seems to have something of a strange, unique belief system among faeries; he thanks the animals he's killed for their sacrifice, and has a few other odd tendencies when it comes to the supernatural.

One thing about Cuan that absolutely baffles the faeries around him is his utter indifference to magic. Sure, he has it, and he uses it sometimes... but he doesn't go out of his way to learn new spells, or use those he has as a crutch. Sometimes, privately and with a few things, he believes magic to be cheating, and an exercise in indulgence. He'd much rather use his own two hands to accomplish most things.

Personality
Quiet - Even when among people he likes, Cuan doesn't usually have too much to say. He's a quiet observer, and a wonderful listener when you don't want someone who will try to tell you what to do when you're through talking. When he does speak, his words tend to carry some weight. He thinks quite a bit before he opens his mouth, and some people think that, because of this, he's slow. However, behind the silence and the calm face is a keen intelligence.

Unshakable - It takes a lot to make him even blink (apart from social situations, of course). This is a man who faces disaster with a calm eye and quiet confidence. He's learned that panicking only makes things worse, and that he can usually handle whatever the world throws his way. And he figures that if he can't handle it... that's the way it was supposed to be.

Tough - Cuan takes his hits quietly, suffering in silence. He doesn't talk about things that are bothering him, letting them fester instead... and he expects others to do the same. He becomes annoyed if people 'whine' about their problems, and will often be internally rolling his eyes while people speak of things that are going wrong in their lives.

Temper Temper - Because he keeps so much inside, and is filled with so much anxiety when faced with other people, Cuan occasionally, well... snaps. He'll explode in a rage that, while not usually violent, is terrifying in it's own right. When he does have these temper flare ups, he'll leave the city of Cyrus the next day, even if his business isn't concluded, needing the quiet that the forest gives him.

History
Cuan was born in the city of Cyrus, and wasn't there too often after that. His father and mother, both skilled hunters and rangers, kept a hunting lodge in the woods of the midlands near the base of the mountains, and that is where they raised their son the majority of the time. Once he was able to hold a bow, he was instructed in archery, and when he was older, the way of the sword and dagger. He spent very little time in the city, until he turned fifteen.

At that point, his parents sent him to live with his aunt, wanting to give him the chance to make friends and see what life was like in Cyrus. He hated every minute of those three long years, though he did manage to form a few tentative connections with some peers; a few of those he still talks to. As soon as he turned eighteen, he went back to the Midland to live with his parents again, with an eye to buying his own hunting lodge.

However, a year later, as he was saving, tragedy struck. His parents left on a trip to the Wildlands, and never came back. Four months after they were supposed to return, the teenager gathered his resolve and planned a trip there of his own, hoping to find them, though he knew it was a slim chance. On arriving there, he quickly realized that he was hardly a match for most of the creatures there. They all were bigger, tougher, the predators more vicious and intelligent. He was almost killed by a wild boar at one point, gouged in the arm with one tusk. He managed to kill the beast, then took care of the wound as best he could before starting home. He almost arrived at the gates of Cyrus too late. He was raving with fever, the wound infected, hardly knowing who he was and what he was trying to do. The guards recognized him as an Aphotic, and brought him to a skilled healer, who managed to save his life.

Since then, he has gone back to the Wildlands three times, each time better equipped, better prepared. The exotic pelts and meats he brings back from these expeditions have made him fairly rich, but that isn't why he goes. Part of him is still hoping to find some trace of his parents, so he at least knows what happened to them.

Relatives
Finn Everard - Father to Cuan, the man was quiet, but extremely dependable. He taught his son everything he knew about tracking, and the ways of animals. He was the rock of the family, carrying them through tough times with grace. He didn't smile often, but when he did, it was usually at his wife or son, the expression gentle and full of love. He has been missing, considered dead, for almost ten years now.

Dairine Everard - Cuan's mother, she was Finn's opposite in many ways. She had an easy, laid back manner about her, and was often joking and laughing, unless she was on a hunt. She taught Cuan his letters (Finn was very shaky in this area of knowledge), his sums, and what she knew of weapons, which was quite a bit. She adored her family, and let them know it as often as possible. Like her husband, she is missing, most likely dead.

Celia Fioralba - Cuan's aunt on his mother's side. This is the relative that he went to stay with during his three years in Cyrus; he doesn't think too well of her. She spends most of her time trying to climb the social latter, wanting things bigger and better, with more flair. Still, she is the only family he has left, and so he goes to visit her when he is in town, and sometimes will gift her with pelts that she can have made into fur coats and the like.

Other

Truce
Unlike most Aphotic faeries, Cuan will sometimes have dealings with a few Luminous faeries. Sometimes he roams in the forests closer to Ruse, or they will wander into his territory in search of game. He knows a few by name, and they will sometimes share information on the forests; they are weary of each other, yes, but also respect one another as woodsmen. He doesn't tell others of this interesting arrangement, knowing they would likely be shocked and appalled. If he saw a large force coming to Cyrus, of course, he would warn the city, but otherwise he feels it's none of their business.

Man's Best Friend
Cuan's closest friend - his only real friend - is a hunting hound he calls Bay. A beautiful, large animal, she is black with a white muzzle and socks. She can disappear as well as he can, and is very useful when it comes to hunting smaller game. She has defended her master several times, and he has done the same for her; they have a very close bond. He brings her everywhere with him... except the Wildlands. On those occasions when he goes, he refuses to put her in that much danger, and leaves her with his aunt in the city.

The Lodge
The hunting lodge that Cuan calls home is a lovely structure, built by his grandparents when they were first married - it could be called a log cabin, except for it's size. Inside, it has a cozy, homey feel. The furniture is all broken in, well used, and many touches have been added on the walls and over the mantle to make it more comfortable. There are three bedrooms, one of which is the Master Bedroom; even though he knows that his parents are dead, Cuan refuses to sleep there, instead keeping his own bedroom. Bay sleeps there too, at the foot of his bed.

The Apartment
In Cyrus, Cuan rents a small apartment that is there solely for him to stay in when he has to go to the city to sell his furs and meat for supplies. Just big enough for him and Bay, it is clearly not a place to actually live in. The furniture is hardly touched, and there are no decorations on the walls at all. It sits empty for months at a time, and Cuan is very uncomfortable there when he has to use it.

Demons
Cuan has rather mixed feelings about Demons. He knows that if he could manage to summon a Warrior, it might be helpful... but he's also afraid such a creature would hinder his lifestyle, and not be able to blend properly in the woods. He has never had a Summon, and while he may someday attempt it, now is not that time.
