A thick forest sounded the blue filly, her wings twitching silently as she stared at her prey; a white rabbit nibbled away unaware. Mentally she flexed her invisible claws, seeing them in her mind dig into the ground, creating shallow holes in the earth, but in truth her hooves just stood upon the earth. With a silent leap, she went after the rabbit, but right before she caught the fluffy critter, it bolted into the woods. Nakita let out a low growl; she still had a long way to go.
Her silver eyes looked at her wings, they seemed to get in the way when she tried to hunt, they slowed her down on her leaps; her eyes then moved down to her claw less hooves, blaming her father. She pushed the thoughts from her mind and continued to train; she would become the best harpy that she could, even if she was at a genetic disadvantage without claws, she would just learn how to use the wings upon her back as an advantage. Somehow.

Nearby, a slightly younger foal jingled slightly as he flicked an ear, setting the bell set into his hair as something of a good luck charm chiming. He smiled a bit as he inspected the bits of cleaned bones and feathers he was binding with hair, trying to make something out of it.
They were still under the watchful eye the nannies watched their daily trip to a fresh location for the herbivorous colts and fillies to graze and young omnivore and carnivore foals practice hunting on the small game that had yet managed to move out of the location, but his main interest found itself in collecting unusual objects and attempting to put them together in some manor that was pleasing.
However, finally his attention was drawn away from the item to the girl as she glowered at her wings and hooves, head cocking to the side. After a bit, he chirruped softly, "May I speak, Mistress Nakita?" Even at his young age, he had taken to heart his parents suggestions, being nothing but polite to the young mares around him. He was not, after all, equal to them in rank, and thus should treat them with respect, " I have an idea that could help..."

Jingle, jingle, the sweet song of bells drew Nakita away from her inner turmoil; she knew the owner of those bells and turned to face the colt as he asked to speak; her ears perked at the end of his words, he may have a way to help her be a great hunter even with her disability? Her silver eyes gazed down at his claws, how would he know a way that would be beneficial to her? He had claws while she had hooves, she opened her mouth to tell the colt that his idea was not needed when an image of her sister popped in to her head; Kaia was silently urging her sister to take the advice, for it would help her to achieve her goal of becoming a great warrior.
“Fine!” She said more to the image of her sister than to the colt standing in front of her. Nakita turned her silvery gaze to Taarab, “You may speak and what is this idea of yours and how will it help me?” Silently Nakita wished that his idea would be of a great benefit to her, for she knew if she did not get help, she would be a mediocre hunter and warrior at most, not the great one she wanted to be.

Taarab dipped his head slightly in respect and submission, setting aside the hairstick he was attempting to make, "Thank you, Mistress Nakita."
He cleared his throat, tucking his claws under himself. While he wasn't positive what it was that was bothering her, from experience and his brother's own plight he had a general idea. While it wasn't as important for males, being clawless was a horrible disadvantage, and he didn't wish to flaunt his own spirit sent gift in front of the mare.
"It is common, from what I'm told, for warriors to bind bands to their arms for protection And while Hooves are good for crushing, and make you speedier in open fields, many use these bindings to tie fake claws onto, allowing them to slash as well as crush." He dipped his head further, smiling demurely, his voice growing even meeker as he did not want to insult her, "I also... Have a 'godmother' of sorts who has wings. She's a bit small, but she could help you learn how to use your wings to swoop down on prey. She's a hunter as well."

Nakita wished that there was some way that she could shake the colt to make him hurry up and tell her what she wanted to hear, but she waited patiently, like her sister would have done. As he continued to talk, the young blue filly found herself getting more exited with each passing breath, she could attach claws and that would be of a great benefit to her, she would not be able to grab on to the branches like her Sisters, but she would be able to hunt with the best of them.
“How would I go about getting these fake claws?” She tilted her head to the side as she considered his words, he knew of someone who had wings and that could help her master hunting. Nakita smiled, this day was turning out better than she had hoped, “I would like to meet this ‘Godmother’ of yours… a hunter with wings; I would have much to learn from her.” Nakita stared at the young colt, “Are you sure she would wish to teach me?"

"If it benefits the flock, she would." He chirruped loudly, repeating the tone a bit before he got a chirrup in return, the cry a little shriller and higher pitched then most of the mares of the forest, "She will come here, and come with some scraps of hide... I can try to make a start of a binding for your legs... However we need to look for something sharp...." he thought for a moment, gaze going back to the bone hair stick. He then plucked it clean and carefully held it between his claws, bending it in the middle. Eventually it cracked, creating two spear like ends, " Bones would possibly work for starters -- light enough to help you learn to use them, and thus quick like talons. However it needs to be shaped over a rounded stone to make it curve..."
He looked the broken bone over, eyes tight as he calculated, young mind still not quite grasping that these bones in particular might be too brittle, but it'd be a start for childs play, "... We need more bones."

The strange chirping noise that came out of the clawed cult made Nakita’s ears twitch with a curious excitement. Who was this winged warrior that Taarab called his ‘godmother’? The tiny blue filly wondered if she had met this mare, but could not remember ever meeting someone who had wings and was a fierce hunter. With her pale silver eyes, Nakita watched as the pale colored foul broke the bleached bone hair stick in half with his claws; the jagged edges of the bone appeared sharp in the forest light. Her head titled to the side, would bone be strong enough for claws? She thought back to all the times when the huntresses brought back prey, who’s bones where broken upon the stealthy attack of the harpy. Nakita gave a mental shrug, these were good enough for now, at least she will finally have claws like the rest of her Harpy Sisters, well except her sister Kaia, that is.
“I know where we can find some bones; they have been resting in the same place for over a week now. It is not far from where we stand."

Taarab stood up quickly, partially feathered tail swishing merrily, but kept his claws still as they rested on the ground, not wishing to flex as instinct desired to, since it could be seen as a sign of aggression or at least draw attention to it. The clawless harpies (or as he thought of them 'One taloned' or 'crusher harpies' like his brother and father, the hoof being something similar to the claws, and to him they were) tended to be sensitive about their lack of claws, as he learned from his brother's lack of them out the three of them.
"If you could lead..." His head lowered submissively, expression kind and hopeful, "I must have missed them.."

Silver eyes gazed at the cult as he bowed to her and humbly asked her to leave. It was not surprising that he had missed the bones, for they were thoroughly hidden. She had come across them one day while hunting and just thought it would be interesting to hide them in a close by bush, she did not know why she did what she did, perhaps it was just something to control. A question crossed her mind as she gazed at the clawed cult, what would have happened if she did not hide them; would she still have Taarab whip her something up from the materials at hoof? The winged filly shrugged, she would have thought of something, she always does.
Nakita gave a slight nod to Taarab to indicate that she had heard him and would lead him to the bones, she started off at a fast pace, wanting to get to the hidden stash of bleached bones as quickly as possible. She continued through the woods, never bothering to look behind her; soon the winged filly reached the bush covered in thorns and white flowers, beneath the shrub, the objects they sought rested. Carefully the blue filly moved away the thorns to reveal the pile of bones from a mixture of different animals; Nakita looked at Taarab expectantly, “Will these do?”

"They might!" Taarab carefully scooped out a bundle of the bones, looking hem over intently, testing their strength and splitting one into sharp stabby spears, "I could tie these into a band for scratchers at first.. I might have to ask for help figuring out how to turn them into real claws, but it'd give you something while I do that."
He frowned a bit, trying to see if he could bend them with his fingers to stay in place, "I'm told you can shape things like this from being strait to a curve, but I haven't learned how yet. Something to do with asking spirits of water and fire to aide you in.. If they were thicker bones I could just rub them into shape on a rock, but.."
Finding a scrap of pelt in the pile of litter, he cut the fur with one of the broken bones, mutilating the scrap but able to cut it, "It'll work for a start if I can get them attached to you."

Curiosity was a trait that apparently ran in her family; the Sperm Donor (also known as her father) was supposedly a great detective and her sister seemed to have inherited his thirst for knowledge. To Nakita, curiosity came and went, it never fully providing her with the drive to seek the result, but when it pertained to her in some sort of fashion, her curiosity knew no bounds. “What will the temporary claws be like?” The young harpy female was having difficulty visualizing the process that Taarab described, half the terms he used she did not understand and it irritated her, but she pushed it aside, if she acted on her vexation it would take longer for her to get the faux claws.
Her eyes glanced to the pile of bones, “Would thicker bones withstand more damage?” She did not want to keep having to rely upon a male to fix or make her the bone claws each time she hunted or participated in a battle. The filly tilted her head to the side, trying to figure out how the clawed colt would attack her imitation claws; her mind wandered as she visualized catching prey with the bone claws, she would finally be like the rest of her Sisters!
She looked at the colt expectantly, her impatience starting to build as waiting was never her forte, “So, how are you going to do this?"
