Riley had taken her time getting ready. This was a rather important event after all, and she had taken care to look as elegant and intimidating as possible. She had even ordered a dress made, instead of creating one herself - the intricacies of dressmaking for style were lost to her. She knew that designer fashion would be better appreciated at an event like this.

So, she'd chosen from a listing that she'd ordered from a reputable designer, Alexander McScream. He made some of the most ghoulish designs, and it was hard to choose, but she went with a dress that looked both elegant, and empowering.

Power, she felt, was the most important function of her apparel that night.

She slipped on her earrings, which rattled slightly - they were living rattlesnakes, after all - and walked out of her dorm.

Riley paused as she locked her door, and eyed the door next to it. She could hear a slight shuffling from inside, and her curiosity got the best of her. She rapped the back of her knuckles against Barth's door.

Barth? Are you quite ready yet? It's almost time. It would be unseemly for the other demon to show up late.

"You can come in," Barth said. He was standing in front of a full length mirror, well-groomed and mostly dressed, very slowly fastening the last of his vest buttons. His bow tie was loose around his neck, and his jacket was still on the bed.

"Almost done." He moved on to the bow tie, tilting his chin to address the thing properly. It was instantly apparent that almost done translated to almost another hour of fiddling with it. He thought he was keeping a reasonable pace.

The black envelope (and both invitations) were on his bedside dresser, along with his spare cufflinks.

Riley opened the door and took a few steps in, before pausing at the sight of Barth in full regalia. One eyebrow rose, and her head tilted.

Well look at you, all cleaned up. She appraised, as she set down a small black clutch she'd brought down on his desk. It was there that she noticed something that caught her attention immediately, and her fingers ran along the length of the desk before resting against the little black card that lay on top of Barth's invitation. She let out a breath of a chuckle, before picking it up and slipping it casually back into it's envelope.

Her eyes returned up to see Barth still fiddling with his tie, and she rolled her eyes. At this rate, he'd arrive at the party just in time for the clean-up. It would not do. She slid between him and the mirror, and slapped his hands away. Stop that. Give it to me. She reached up, and began tying his tie.

So. She murmured, eyes remaining on the tie as she spoke. You've been invited into Lucky 13 as well, I see. She flickered her gaze up to meet his eyes with a cutting gaze for a single moment, before dropping back down to his tie. How fortunate.

Never, in her wildest dreams, would she have considered her lazy, sluggish neighbor to have shown so many significant signs of being an appropriate and effective rival. An alliance with him was starting to look like a necessity, rather than a desire. It unnerved her.

"Oh. Err, yes," he said, allowing Riley to knot his tie. "Shame about Braum. Only met him once. He was err, somewhat lacking in the subtlety department."

"You look...deadly impressive," he added, meaning it. This wasn't a date proper, in that they wouldn't be making eyes at each other and both had a mutual and neighborly understanding of the other's romantic engagements. Barth was very seriously not dating Lilith. This was a mix of social and business. ...Still. Riley picked up on things with a frightening intensity. She had marked Christof in short order, calculatingly mowed through gaming strategies, took natural command, and had a very definite competitive streak.

Although he tried not to make it obvious, he liked to win too. ...Eventually.

Yes. Quite a shame. Riley lied fluidly. Truth be told, she didn't think it was a shame at all - she'd heard some rumors about Braum that made Barth's comment concerning subtlety all the more correct. I'm glad Sin was there to pick up the pieces. I wouldn't have foreseen it - I didn't think much of her at first. We shall see how this changes things.

His compliment did not go unnoticed, and her hands paused in their work as she looked up at him. Her eyes shaped upward in lieu of a smile. What a nice thing to say. Thank you. Barth had clearly been raised in the right circles - he knew just the right kind of compliments to give a demoness. Well.. a normal one, anyway. In truth, the only compliments that would stir Riley were those of the mind - which was of course why she held such open affection for Malodore.

Her hands dropped down to her sides and she inspected her work. There. She lifted a hand and tucked one strand of his hair behind his horns, before nodding. All done.

She stepped out of his way so he could inspect himself, and instead stood beside him and took in her own appearance. Deadly, indeed. Her eyes tinged darkly, pleased at what she saw. They were certainly dressed the part, complimenting each other well. It was almost time for the show to begin.

Barth stood beside her, momentarily straightened from having his tie done. Riley, as with most things, had done an impeccable job. At his full height, he was tall, and intimidating.

He slouched over again, softening the effect, and plucked the jacket from his bed. "Don't know too much about Sin," he said. Other than the fact that Christof got very distracted around her. "Although I suppose I'll end up talking to her at the thing."

He gestured to the door. "Shall we?"

Riley eyed the time as it blinked from some electronical device he owned, before nodding. We shall. She moved to the door, opened it, and stood beside it. She then bowed with a flourish. After you. She might as well have said ladies first, with how gallant the action was. It contrasted sharply with her gown, and was a small source of amusement for her. She briefly wondered if perhaps there was enough time to check on her Cthulhu in her dorm room before they left, but as she watched Barth come towards her, she realized that their walk to the party was going to take much longer than she'd have expected. They would not have much time to spare.

Barth shrugged, and made his very slow way through. He was grateful she was willing to do all the heavy-lifting for the night. Maybe she'd get drinks and things too. He was already regretting not being able to take Christof along. ...There should be a servant clause, for demon-only parties.

Fortunately, they only had to walk as far as the common area. In his opinion, it was one of the best-chosen locations for a campus event thus far.
