[PRP] What stories are made of (Yavie/Yabetz/Caolan)

Caolan could only twitch with anger at Yavie's statement. 'Show them where things were' indeed. This was his home, and mad foxes were not welcome in it.

"I would prefer not to," he flatly told Yabetz. There was no way he was going to show this pair anything in his home. "In fact, I would prefer it if you both left."

Most times, it was easy to forget Caolan was half 'deava. But obnoxious foxes, like those two, brought out that side of him.

Yavie’s ears dropped for a moment. Yabetz’s friend sounded so mad. Mabye he wasn’t feeling good? Yes that must be it, after all any fox that Yabetz knew must be good and happy some of the time. “Oh are you not doing well? Are you hurt?” Yavie walked around the laying male with a worried look on her face before looking at her mate thinking of an idea.

“Hey hey!” She was nearly bouncing in place with her idea. As usual her speech was rapid and cheery. “Maybe if Caolan isn’t feeling good we can bring him things to make him feel better. Like flowers and mushrooms. I know I like flowers when I’m happy or not happy. We just have to make sure their no bugs in them first, or else when you sniff them you could end up with a bug up your nose which is really not fun at all and might make him feel worse.”

Yabetz nodded sagely and beamed at his mate. "A bonny idea, mah wee Bumblebee. Ye always think oop the best ideas!"

He turned and fixed Caolan with a focused, concerned look.

"Worry not, mah fine friend. Mah mate and I knoo exactly how tae fix what ails ye. Just stay on yonder rock and rest, and we'll be back before the day's oot with a cure for your unhahppiness!"

Caolan let out a low growl when Yabetz' friend got too close in his personal space. He was still half daeva, even though he didn't act it frequently. And this pair were pushing him to his limit.

"Yes, why don't you go get flowers," Caolan practically pounced on the suggestion. It would finally be enough to get the pair of them out of his territory, and out of his fur.

"The best flowers are a two day's walk away from here, though," he added, most certainly not wanting the two to come back so quickly. "Nothing much grows around here," he added, gesturing to the desolate terrain that he called his home.

Maybe, if he was lucky, they would forget all about him and their self-appointed mission to cheer him up, by the time they made it two days away.

At the very worst, he had given himself four days of peace. At this point, he'd even take that. Even a temporary break from the two was better than nothing at all.

Oh she just knew it! Flowers worked on so many foxes that it was bound to make Yabetz’s friend happy too. Positively gushing she smiled at him while leaning next to her mate. “Alrightey then!” Two days didn’t’ seem like a bad walk at all not if it made someone happy, but Yabetz had said that they would fix the problem in a day. Maybe the best flowers weren’t what was needed to help this fox. Perhaps any flowers would help a bit. If it was bad still then they could go and get the pretty pretty bestest flowers. Her tail wagged quickly as she bounced up and down moving a bit away from Yabetz thinking it through. “oh I think things grow here somewhere after all you’re alive and here.” She grinned back at Yabetz.

Yabetz leaned over and patted Yavie's shoulder. "Nah, mah bonny wee lass. Ye c'n feel et in the air, no flowers are going tae grow aboot here this time o' the season. Cao probably be right."

The mask hid Yabetz's thoughtful frown. Caolan obviously lived around here so he'd know for sure where the only place was with a temperature pleasantly stable enough for delicate growth this time of the season.

Wait! Maybe that's why he was in such a bad mood! Flowers cheered everyone up, it was part of their magic, so if the nearest ones were at least two days away....

"Bumblebee, Ah have an idea! Mah friend obviously needs the cheerin' as quick as c'n be! We have no time tae take on the journey! But there be rocks a plenty all aboot, Ah'm sure we c'n find something just as pretty that will suffice f'r nao!"

Her ears drooped. She couldn’t feel anything different about this place from any other but Yavbetz knew best. She looked at the ground trying to figure out if there was some dicernable difference she could see with her eyes. Nothing. Maybe if she talked to Samhain, her sister more or less she could find out more. After all Samhain saw ghosts and things which was very exciting.


Her ears perked up when Yabetz told her his idea. “You’re a genius Yabetz!” A huge grin broke out on her face as she looked at Yabetz’s friend. “See we don’t even need to get you the flowers since they might wilt anyway the rocks can keep you company and they can always be around even the flowers aren’t blooming some days.” Yabetz was so smart.

Yabetz's laugh was surprisingly deep for his body size; it boomed across the mountain air. "Ach, mah wee Bumblebee, ye have a pure dullion brain! Ah knew you would see et withou' mah havin' tae explain!" He leaned over and nuzzled his mate, pleased that she found the conclusion of the idea so soon. First-class mind, and she thought he was smart!

"Now, soon'st we leave the soon'st we c'n coom back and cheer up yon long-faced laddy over there," Yabetz said, nodding seriously. "Let's head oot, and keep y'r eyes peeled tae th' ground so we don' miss anythin'." He looked around, picked the likeliest area to hold the kind of rocks they were looking for, then started heading in that direction at a slow walk with his eyes glued to the ground.

Smiling like a fool she was used to Yabetz interesting way of speaking. “That’s because I’m used to talking to you Yabetz.” She accepted his nuzzling feeling her heart gushing and those pesky butterflies in her stomach again. They never seemed to leave if she was with Yabetz for any period of time. She accepted it as something that Yabetz just did when he was near. Maybe she could do it too if she found and danced with fairies like he had.

Her head bobbed she followed Yabetz. She inspected the ground as she went occasionally stopping and dropping to the ground so she could more closely eye a stone before deciding that it wasn’t pretty enough. When that happened she’d pop up and bound after Yabetz and repeat the process again and again. This was as exciting as playing with the ghost even though she hadn’t actually seen the ghost.

((lol I try to keep the words similar enough to their original state that they don't baffle, half for readers and half for my own sanity. All slang gets translation for the same reason ;^^ ))

Yabetz looked back at Yavie from time to time as she came bounding forward to catch up with him after lagging behind during one of her closer examinations of the rocks. Her enthusiasm really seemed to have no limit, there was just a child-like wonder in a lot of what she did.

That was why he was always careful. People thought he was probably leading Yavie on with his tales of faeries and goblins and magic, but Yabetz actually believed all of it. He made sure to never tell Yavie anything he didn't think was true; he was sure she'd believe him no matter how far-fetched it sounded, because she was willing to believe in anything. Such trust was to be honored, not abused and misused!

A round of rock caught his eye. "Yavie, keep yer eyes out f'r yon round rocks sich as these," he said, indicating the one he'd found. He picked up another, smaller rock from the ground and began to tap the round one, listening closely. "Some hide pretty crystals out of sight, ye ken. If ye get a hollow sound, we may have tae pan them tae see what's inside."

Her head perked up when Yabetz called her name. She moved closer to him to see what kind of rock he was talking about. It looked ordinary enough to her but she did hear a small difference when he started to whack another rock against it. She giggled. “Well then the crystals are just like the faries and they don’t like to be seen, but I’ll find them.” She grinned and started to look for more rocks like the one Yabetz had pointed out. She did find one or two that she thought might be the right kind, but when she started to tap on them with another rock it didn’t seem to be the right sound so she passed them by and kept looking.

It took her some time since she was very careful in checking the rocks but she did find one that might be right. It sounded odd like the one Yabetz had done. Picking it up in her mouth she carried it back to him. “iz thif da ind?” She wanted to know if she had the right kind of rock or if she should keep looking.

Yabetz carefully took the rock from Yavie and set it on the ground, then tapped on it with another rock while he listened. A small, hollow sound greeted his ears, and he grinned.

"Och, ye have a keen eye on ye and mighty ears. This one has the potential in it." He carefully set that rock and the one he had found to the side.

"If we cannae find anythin' else we'll try tae pan those open. 'T would be disrespectful tae go breakin' them oop and deciding not tae use 'em, ye ken."

He grinned at Yavie. "Naow, it's back tae searchin' f'r us!"

Nervously hopping she got the right kind Yavie was thrilled when they got Yabetz’s stamp of approval. Beeming she nodded. “Ok.” With that she went back to rock hunting. A part of her had wanted to see what had been in her rock, but if Yabetz wanted to wait then she’d wait. After all she might find an even prettier rock and not know it until later. Enthusiastic she kept tapping on rock and looking for anymore hollow rocks. She didn’t find anymore but she did find some nice smooth rocks that she thought were pretty. They were a yellow color with black and kind of shiny.

The pair spent many minutes in companionable silence broken by the occasional murmer and the gentle clinking of rocks. Yabetz turned over a larger rock to look at some of the smaller ones beneath it, then let out a little crow of pleasure.

"Lookit whit Ah found," he said, holding up a rough, opaque pink crystal. "Needs a bit o' polishin', but a good speciman. Ye don' find 'em this size, they're usually toaty or tae big tae carry."

Tearing her eyes from her little prize Yavie looked to where Yabetz was. Not able to see what he she picked up her new gem and walked over to him. She made an ooing sound around the stone in her mouth as she looked at what Yabetz found. Setting down her rock she inspected the pink rock closer. “it’s really really pretty Yabetz. I think this will cheer up your friend in no time at all. I think it would cheer anyone up.”
