WHO: Lazarus and Rivener WHEN: 5 PM WHERE: The Lab WEATHER: Freezing
Roughly wrapped in torn blankets, stained with his own blood and holding a steel pipe he yanked from the bathroom, Lazarus broke through the ice along the hallway slowly. His teeth had started to chatter slightly in the freezing cold environment, but his determination to keep going continues to drive him forwards. Just a little bit more... he continued to tell himself, and he will reach the landing area where the staircase is, and from what he can see, that area looks pretty clear.
With a heavy swing, he broke away the ice with the steel pipe just enough for him to get through. It was during times like these that he was thankful for not having legs, that way he could squeeze through impossible places without having to worry about gravity. Letting out a big sigh of relief, that came out in a large cloud of fog, he stretched up his arms in quiet victory as he finally escaped the hallway. One obstacle down, who knows how many more to go.
When he checked around the surroundings on the landing however, he noticed something alarming, something that he would never ever thought he will see in this environment. "Rivener..?" Crimson eyes wide like saucers, he cautiously approached the being on the wall opposite the staircase. The scorpion was almost completely encased in a cocoon of ice, only his face, horns and a little of his right shoulder was poking out. Is he... is he dead? A sense of alarm and panic overwhelmed the incubus then, quickly he began to hit the ice encasing Rivener with the steel pipe, also blowing out pieces with his touch. "Don't die on me Rivener." His voice was hoarse and emotional as he attempted to free the scorpion. Not even knowing if he was dead or alive.

The Stars, had they been talking about Rivener's End? The Cold, the Ice, the End... In the few bleary moments when Riv's mind fluttered back to consciousness while Roux carried him to his frozen prison, he wondered about it. Those moments were so few and far between however that the Scorpion couldn't for the life of him know where he was or how far he'd been brought. Once, as they flew outside over a city, Riv had heard the Stars screaming at him from the sky: BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE! He'd almost laughed. It was too late for that. He hadn't been wary enough and now he was going to die. Or so it seemed.
The next time Riv woke up enough to pry his eyelids open, he was in a building. His arms, wings, and torso hurt like a b***h, prickling and throbbing and numb at the same time... He could physically feel his rune pulsing with the last dregs of life, a very odd sensation. And directly in his view was Roux, with those crazed eyes of his that weren't Roux anymore... Those eyes were lowered to his work as a soft crinkling sound filled the icy room, and Riv's gaze flicked downward: he was being encased in ice. Roux was indeed going to keep them together forever. Rivener's eyebrows knotted up in panic and he began breathing a little shallow, he tried to move... and passed out again from the pain in his arm.
Consciousness fluttered back to him, fainter and fainter every time, when he heard his name from someone's lips. Roux's voice was different... And there was a smashing sound... The Scorpion felt pain all over, his rune spluttered weakly and gave off a sickly glow from behind the wall of ice, but still Rivener managed to crack one eye open just enough to see.
"...zarus?" Argh, it hurt so much to talk! He could feel his energy draining just from working his jaw muscles and vocal chords that much! "H-help... C-cold..."

Just a little bit, even a little bit, he saw a weak flicker of light within the ice, is that Rivener's rune? Is it... is it going out? Is he dying? Filled with despair and panic, he continued to attack at the ice, swinging the steel pipe into the ice and cracking it. He even started to create slightly larger explosions, not caring if the shards hurt him again. He just want... no, desperate to save his best friend.
At that moment, he heard a weak whisper, a familiar voice that almost sounded like a ghost's whisper to him. "Rivener?" Paused in his movements, he looked up at the scorpion's face above him with wide eyes, saw him scrunched up his face, saw him frown. "You're alive!" He almost breathe those words out in relief as Rivener spoke again. This lighten up a new hope in him, a hope for survival. The despair momentarily washed away. "I'll break you out of there, don't worry." Smiling encouragingly, he patted Rivener's face gently and held it there for a moment, giving him a feeling of warmth, even just a bit. Staining the scorpion's face a little with his blood in the process. Then floating a little higher, he begin to carefully thaw the ice around Rivener's head, crushing small areas, careful not to hurt him.
"How do you feel?" It was a stupid question and he knew it, but he watched on TV that it might help people stay conscious. And right now, staying conscious is a good thing. He certainly don't want Rivener to go unconscious on him, he don't want him to not wake up again.

Rivener tried to grin at Lazarus's hopeful sounding words, that promise that he'd break Riv out of the ice. He was SO tired though, and his face ached from trying to smile, leaving the Scorpion drained and breathing shallow. A mere moment later, however, Lazarus touched his face and patted, his hand offering warmth... Rivener sighed in relief at the feeling, eyes fluttering shut in bliss. That warmth soaked into his skin and washed away the pain for a little while, at least on his head! This time he DID manage to grin somewhat, red eyes opening up again to watch the other Sigel work at the icy wall.
"I feel like a frozen piece of s**t," he chuckled weakly, coughing. His lungs hurt like hell, making him wince. "The cold really really hurts, Laz! Can you give me more warmth before you continue? Please?" A thought suddenly occurred to him, but Rivener doubted Dr. K would magically appear with that weird T-shaped device that he'd used to share blood. If Rivener could have had a transfusion from Lazarus again, it would surely have kept him warm for a few hours! For now though, he'd just have to hope Lazarus had magic enough to get him out of here.

A chuckle, that is a positive sign. Lazarus is glad that at least Rivener is talking, even though the chat topic isn't anything too optimistic. The fire Sigel was halfway thawing through the ice behind Rivener's head when the scorpion requested more warmth. He couldn't refuse a plea like that, especially considering the situation Rivener is in, he couldn't begin to imagine how cold it is being encased in an ice cocoon like that. Perhaps he could just multi-task.
"Alright..." Holding the steel pipe with his right hand, he reached his free left hand over and held Rivener's cheek. It felt really cold to his touch at first, not surprising considering the state the other Sigel is in, but it slowly warmed up as he kept his hand there. At the same time, he continued to break the ice encasing Rivener with the steel pipe, although his speed was slowed down quite a bit.
Rivener's idea with the blood transfusion was oblivious to him at the moment. But even if Dr K was around to perform the transfusion, there might be a problem since Lazarus lost quite some blood from his wounds. One thing the fire Sigel is thankful for the cold is the numbing sensation to his wounds, they don't hurt as much like this.
"How did you get here anyway?" Lazarus had been dying to know who in the world did this to the Lab. It seemed quite unlikely that this is mother nature's doing. And although he was trying to deny it, he could sense a familiarity in the ice, the source of power is very similar to his own, to Raevans. It couldn't be... But there weren't any other explanations to it. This is the moment of truth, surely Rivener would know who abducted him and did this to him. Although the naivety in him still refuses to believe that this is the works of another fellow Raevan.

Rivener breathed a shaky sigh of relief when that warm palm cupped his cheek. He could feel his skin soaking up the heat like a sponge soaked up water, and it sustained him. The pain was still present, of course, and the small bit of contact wasn't enough to help his sputtering rune come back to life... But it DID keep him from passing out again.
The constant smacking of pipe against ice was starting to hurt Rivener's ears, so loud and close by... But at least it was making progress in freeing him! He could move his head from side to side now! He began to feel a slight flicker of hope that he might get free, he might get out of here. If anyone could destroy an Ice prison, it was a Fire Sigel, right? Though, Laz was not using all that much fire... And now that Rivener forced himself to notice, the other Raevan looked beat up and bruised! What the hell had happened here?
Lazarus' question confused Rivener for a moment. Shouldn't Laz know quite well how Rivener had gotten here? If he'd fought with Roux and seen him make this place into an Ice Castle, it should be obvious who'd brought Rivener to add to the collection! ...Unless-
"You don't know?" Riv breathed, stuttering from the cold. He frowned in anguished concern and bitter regret. "Lazarus, it's Roux. He's completely lost his mind. He came to my house and said he wanted me to be his forever, then he h-hurt me and I woke up here while he was-..." All this talking took its toll, Riv's struggling lungs seizing up with cold for a moment. He coughed, winced at the sensation of his breath being stuck. "You gotta be careful, Laz. Keep an eye out for him. He's not Roux anymore, he's something ELSE."

Lazarus was quiet for a moment as he absorbed all the information that Rivener just unloaded on him. So his suspicions were true after all, it is Roux. That feeling of deja vu when he touched the ice on the wall, that familiar power, it was exactly like that night when he touched Roux's hand and their opposite powers attracted each other. But this time... the power just seemed stronger, mixed with a hint of malice.
However, there are more important things to be worried about now. His expression turned grim as he realize what this all meant. "This means Roux might be in the building..." Quietly, he threw a few cautious glances at the stairway and the balcony. He wasn't sure if he could battle a Sigel ice Raevan in his current status, since he is quite beaten up. Even if he freed Rivener, he wasn't sure if the both of them combined could even hurt him. Since Rivener is in no state to battle at all.
Something strange was bugging him though, if Rivener was Roux's target all along, he already got him, why did he bring the scorpion back to the Lab? Risking a confrontation with him and Kyou? He could've just brought Rivener to somewhere remote and far away from human civilization. But whatever it was, he was glad that Roux decided to bring Rivener to the Lab, or else he would have lost his best friend without knowing why. "Why do you think Roux brought you back here though?" His voice lowered to a whisper as he don't want to make too much noise and draw unwanted attention. "I mean... he already have you, he could just bring you back to wherever he was planning to keep you." Pulling his hand away for a moment, he placed the hand on a large piece of ice and blew a small portion away, the ice hitting his chest before falling to the ground. He continued to do this for a few more times before placing the hand on Rivener's other cheek. He is already halfway down the other's back now, Rivener could move his shoulder if he could.

It was beginning to be easier for Rivener to keep his eyes open and his mind wakeful, the more ice Lazarus chipped or melted away. He was still nowhere near healthy of course, but he could focus on the conversation and reply without his lungs hurting as much. He turned his head away while Lazarus blasted pieces of ice off his shoulder, wincing as small shards pelted them both.
Lazarus' words sunk in then, and Riv frowned in thought. "I-... I don't know." In all honesty, the Scorpion had thought Roux HAD meant to keep him here at the Lab, frozen forever. He'd thought this WAS Roux's final destination, a place where Roux could collect the things he'd wanted, like Riv and Laz and Kyou, all of which were probably important to him... But the elder Sigel was right, this was not a good place for Roux's final lair to be. He'd always be fending off attacks, he wasn't hidden, he'd have no peace. And maybe Laz and Kyou were just innocent victims, not really pieces of the collection?
Rivener was unaware that he'd called for someone when he passed out, was unaware of Roux's jealous response... So all he could figure for the moment was: "Maybe he's got more Raevans he needs to add to this collection before he moves us to the final location? Maybe he went to kidnap someone else!" Though like Lazarus, Rivener kept his voice low in case the Ice Sigel was in the building.
Though really, what difference could whispering make, when the loud chipping and blasting of ice resonated through the halls?

More Raevans, great. He could only hope whoever Roux is out to collect would survive the freezing like Rivener did. The scorpion is extremely lucky that he survived, Lazarus thought he was dead when he saw the other Sigel in this state. So pale, so cold... That was something the fire Sigel does not want to relive again.
"Whoever they are... I hope Roux wouldn't find them so soon..." Although at the moment, he is drawing blanks as to who Roux might go after next.
Since he had created a small crevice of sorts behind Rivener's back, it had gotten immensely easier to crack the ice now. With one hard thrust of the steel pipe, an audibly crack was heard. Looking hopeful, he pulled his hand away from Rivener's cheek for a moment. "Sorry, I need both hands to do this." Grabbing a hold of the steel pipe with both hands, he pushed it deeper into the crevice, groaning from the physical exertion. When he felt it was deep enough, he started to push the steel pipe jutting out of the ice to one side against the ice, attempting to use it as lever to crack the ice further. Gritting his teeth, he groaned loudly as he pushed the lever with all the might left in his fatigued body.
A small crack, followed by a louder one went down the ice cocoon. Rivener seemed to budge a little as well from the force. However, he couldn't go any further as the steel pipe had become ice cold, almost painful to the touch, Lazarus's hand was so painfully numb that he had to let go. Flexing his stiff fingers and rubbing his hands together, he panted as he went around to examine the cracks. Although small, he could see a thin crack going all the way down the end of the cocoon.
"There's a crack here!" He exclaimed happily, although he sounded really exhausted as well. "That's some progress huh? I bet I could get you out of there soon." Grabbing the steel pipe once more, wincing at the coldness, he pulled it out and begin to thrust it into the ice once more, using more force and going faster this time.

Rivener sighed in agreement with the other Sigel's wish. He also hoped Roux didn't find whoever he might be looking for... A year ago, Riv might have egotistically thought he was the only one Roux would have wanted to keep, but the Scorpion knew better now. He wasn't the center of the world. surely Roux had others he'd liked just as much, if not more. It was a strange realization, though the dark Sigel smirked in happiness; seemed he was maturing after all.
A loud crack echoed from the ice by Rivener's back shoulder, and he blinked up at Lazarus. The other Raevan looked hopeful, and Riv eagerly mirrored the sentiment. He grinned, and despite the fact that Laz removed his hand to go and work the ice free, Riv felt warmer. He would be free soon, if Laz could manage to keep this up! "You can do it, Laz, c'mon!" he encouraged, noticing how tired his friend was. "If you can get one of my arms free I can try to help!" Though what help he might be, he had no idea. He was too weak and cold to do much, but he'd try!
Another loud crack. Rivener felt his entire body wedge forward, the ice parting from the wall! He held his breath and felt his face light up with joy: he could almost wiggle an arm free! It was his bad arm though, the one he'd been shot in, so it would be even LESS strong than usual, but it was better than nothing! "You're doing really good, Laz, don't give up!"
The Fire Sigel continued to pry Riv out of the ice, and Rivener in turn managed to yank his arm free! He nearly collapsed from the exertion, his strength still draining from the cold, but he wouldn't give up on his promise to help Laz with this. He propped his hand on the ice (ignoring the shot of pain up his palm from the deathly cold wall) and tried to push himself as Laz pried with the pipe, hoping that the both of them together would be able to finally get him free. One of his wings was still trapped in a chunk of ice, but the other was now loosened enough that Riv flapped weakly, small bits of frost flying from the leather. "Almost! Almost!" Riv huffed, frowning in determination. He could feel it, the crack was growing bigger!

Another loud crack, and he felt Rivener and the entire piece of ice shift a bit. Pausing a moment, he looked at the piece of ice warily as well as the area still joint to the wall. The end of Rivener's ribbon is in the way of the crack! If the ice crack all the way from the wall, it will tear Rivener's ribbon! Or tug real hard at it, he is not sure. Although he wasn't sure how that would feel like, he does not intend the scorpion to find out either.
Swiftly going around, he began to chip in from the other side, nearer to the problem area. Hoping that the ice cocoon wouldn't fall off so soon, although it looked dangerously fragile right now. "Don't move Rivener..." Lazarus whispered, afraid that any loud noises might cause some vibration for the ice cocoon to fall to the ground. "Your ribbon is still caught inside..." Through the ice, he could see a flicker of Rivener's rune, shining a little more brighter now, probably from the adrenaline rush of hope that he may escape. Carefully he begin to blow off small pieces towards Rivener's ribbon, trying his best not to agitate the main crack.
He was about 3 inch in, just half more inch until Rivener's ribbon when he heard a dull crack. His eyes widen in horror when he saw the ice cocoon tipped slightly forwards. Hastily he blow the last part off as best as he could and yank out Rivener's ribbon. That was the last blast that sent the cocoon tumbling forwards.
It all happened like slow motion, the large piece of ice with Rivener still contained inside, falling down, and Lazarus ducking in front to try and grab it. The heavy ice hit the fire Sigel like a dead weight as he let out a gasp, feeling like the air was hit out of his lungs from the impact, his arms wrapped around what supposedly is Rivener's middle section, still covered in ice. His intervention did not stop the fall though as Lazarus was brought down with it. A dull thud echoed through the entire floor, followed by a loud shatter and a strangled cry as the ice cocoon hit the floor, with Lazarus sandwiched in between. If Roux did not hear their banging and cracking earlier, he would definitely hear this now.
It took Lazarus a moment before he could roll the ice cocoon off of him to his side, his chest and back probably bruised from the crush, and his hands trembling from the physical trauma. Moaning softly in pain, he got up and examined the damage. The impact caused a major part of the ice around Rivener's ribbon to smash to pieces, but there was still a lot of work to do. Picking up the steel pipe with shaky hands, he begin to crack the remainder of the ice as he throw wary looks at the staircase for signs of the ice Raevan.

Rivener couldn't feel the tug on his ribbon when Lazarus told him it was stuck. He supposed it was for the best, then, that most of his lower body had been frozen so long it had gone completely numb. Holding his breath and keeping as immobile as possible, Rivener waited for Laz to work the last of the ribbon free...
The loud crack preceded an odd feeling, Rivener's eyes widening: it felt like the entire world was tilting, instead of himself. All he could see was his ribbon still stuck in the wall. Would it rip?? Would that hurt him in some way?? How important was the ribbon anyway!?
Before Riv could even let out the yelp that he'd been holding in, Lazarus blasted free his ribbon and then leapt under the ice cocoon as it fell! "NO!" Rivener called, too late- The impact rocked both Lazarus and himself when the large icy prison landed, a good portion of its lower mass shattering off. Riv's already-strenuous hold on consciousness wavered. He groaned, peering over at Laz when the other Sigel groaned as well, rolling Riv off.
"You're h-hurt, t-take a b-b-break," Rivener counselled, his teeth chattering from the cold again. Though he'd said that, he kept glancing to the staircase like Laz did, aware that they'd made an ungodly racket. He needed to get out of this ice soon, or he'd pass out again and be of no help if-... when Roux got here. The crazed Roc would no doubt be showing up sooner or later.(( Part 2 - Icebreaker ))
