User ImageIt was the first time that Ignis had actually sanctioned an adventure. Adrian was excited to see the sights the world had to offer without the dread of a chewing out when he got back home. It took away a certain thrill he supposed, but it also expanded the amount of time he had to experience the world outside his little family's mountain sanctuary.

They weren't children anymore, according to Ignis. The single father was pushing his kids out of the nest and they were both enjoying the new freedoms immensely.

Adrian flew through the air effortlessly, his hair trailing behind him like a bright orange banner. He loved the feeling of being in the air and enjoyed not having anything to catch his mane and tail, dirtying them. If he could, he would spend his whole life up here in the clouds...

As much as he wished it was so, he couldn't stay in the air forever. Being only half angeni he had a definite limit to the amount of time he could spend in the air and he could feel by the burning in his muscles that that limit was approaching. It was good that he was flying over a very thin forest. It was easy to find a landing spot and the low density of trees meant less twigs and leaves to drag his substantial amount of hair through. He descended, landing without a sound between two small trees, disappointed as always to leave the skies. However, evening was approaching and he was eager to find somewhere to rest.

Everything was calm and soothing to the soul; the day was soon to end, and the animals of the day would curl in their dens and sleep, while those of the night would enter the hunt. Isabliss had noticed her sprits lifting more each day, as she finally let go of the past and became more of her old self again, the one who was not constantly saddened by the fact she left the one she believed she loved; she was finally getting over the stallion. The mare walked at a slow pace, her silver eyes soaking in the beauty of the woods, always during her travels she would come upon woods and always be in awe of the magnificence that surrounded her; to the angeni the forest appeared alive.

Through the trees, the angeni caught sight of the last rays of the sun; silently she glided over to the patch and stood beneath the rays, letting the sun soak into her grey wings. Even though days were beautiful the mare much preferred the loveliness of the night, for it was a wonder not many stayed up to witness; Isabliss smiled to herself, she only stayed awake at night because she could not sleep.

Soon the mare began to move away from the sun and deeper into the woods, searching for a glade that was uncovered by a canopy of trees so she may look upon the moon and the many stars. Before long, Isabliss found the glade in which she would be able to see the stars, but it was already inhabited by a winged being with long dark golden hair.

He took in his surroundings for a few moments as the sun sank ever lower. It was a peaceful time of day that he didn't take the time to appreciate very often. It was never boring at home and something was always going on between the three that made up his small family. He noted the way the sun lit up the area with a golden light as it slowly gave up its fight to keep the sky.

With a sigh he decided that the clearing would do. It was as good a place as any and there was a tree on the other side that looked to have an especially soft bed of moss he could lay on. Everything was taking on a blue tinge as the sun finally disappeared beneath the horizon. It was odd how quickly things could change from the red and gold of a sunset to the odd blue of the time just after.

He noticed movement out of the corner of his eye then, and turned to see who or what had come upon him this evening. He gasped silently as he beheld the most beautiful creature he had ever seen. Absently he realized he had better not tell his sister he had thought that if he didn't want to die. He walked haughtily up to the pretty angeni who had just come into the clearing, trying to look impressive. He stood there for a few seconds, wondering how to begin a conversation.

Realizing he was staring, he averted his eyes and cleared his throat, "Good evening, what brings, ah - what brings such a beauty to this part of the - ah woods..." he stuttered out, cursing himself mentally for it.

As the winged being approached, Isabliss noticed that it was a stallion. His eye markings brought upon the mare’s curiosity and his wings were different than she had ever seen. And he had upon himself many bows and feathers, if Isabliss did not know any better she would believe the stallion to be a female. The angeni was surprised to find that much hair on a male, but discovered that it seemed to fit him, for he wore it with a masculine pride that was hard to hide. Isabliss also noticed that he strode with a confidence that was impressive with the amount of hair he trailed behind him.

Soon the stallion stopped before her, the two of them stood without saying a word as he stared at her, until his words cut the silence. Isabliss smiled greeting to the stallion, “Good Evening Sir, I have been traveling and was searching for a spot to stay for the night when I noticed you in the glen. Might I ask the same question of you? If it is not too rude of course, but why are you in the woods?” Isabliss stared at the stallion, he appeared young to her, he still had more to discover about the world, but she was sure he would set his own path, as many have before him.

Silver eyes looked around the now darkening glade; her ever bright companions, the stars, would soon be glowing in the night sky. Where ever she went, the stars were always there, never abandoning her, and always a constant presence glowing above her. She turned her gaze back to the colorful stallion, and smiled, “Tonight is going to be a clear night, not a cloud in sight.”

Adrian watched her as she watched the sky. Her grey eyes seemed serene as she regarded the sky that was just starting to sparkle with the first few stars of the evening. She was truly a sight to behold with her long hair looped around her head and coiled with braided ropes. She appeared ageless to him, he wondered if it was possible to be in love with someone you didn't know.

"It is never too rude, milady. I was simply traveling, exploring since my father decided my sister and I are old enough to do so on our own. I grew tired and decided that this looked like a good place to spend the night." he replied, thankful that he did not have a repeat of his dreadful stuttering.

"You could stay here, if you would like." he offered nervously. Anything to spend more time in her company was worth it. Besides, he had only just happened upon the clearing himself.

Isabliss smiled he was a fellow traveler, although perhaps not to the extent that she wandered, but he was still young, there would be time ahead where, if he so wished, he could see many amazing sights. “Have you traveled far and seen many places?” The angeni tilted her head as she listened to the stallion, and found herself wandering if his family had the same markings and wings as he.

The grey angeni looked around the glen again, it really was a beautiful place to stay the night, “I would love to stay here,” she bowed her head at his words, “this glen is perfect to gaze up at the stars, since there are no trees to cover up the night sky.” To further her claim, more stars appeared in the clear evening sky, high above their heads, three stars glowed brightly in a line, soon other stars would appear to make up her favorite constellation.

Again, Isabliss bowed her head to the stallion, “I am known as Isabliss, may I inquire your name kind Sir?”

Adrian looked at the beautiful mare from beneath his bangs as he answered her question, "No. My father just recently allowed my sister and I freedom of movement...not that that stopped us from getting into trouble on a daily basis though."

He said the last with an amused hint to his voice, remembering fond memories. Also not so fond memories like the first time the two had discovered their taste for blood, but he banished them from his mind for the moment. It would not due to get lost in thought in the presence of such an enchanting one.

Glancing at the sky himself, he paused to take in the stars. It was another thing he didn't usually take the time to appreciate. He preferred to be in the sky, not looking up at it. "Then by all means, please do."

"A pretty name for a pretty mare," he smiled, blushing slightly, "I am Adrian. It is a pleasure to meet you, milady."

Isabliss gave a small laugh, she understood all too well the trouble young ones could get into, her boys had found themselves in interesting situations during the family’s constant travels, but somehow they were able to get themselves out of the circumstance by their own wit, “I can only imagine, it seems that when we are young we cannot help but get into trouble.”

As she gazed at the sky she remembered a conversation she had with a flutter about flying to the stars, it was during nights like this that the wish to fly as high as she could overwhelmed the angeni, but she stayed grounded. There was a time and a place to fly and tonight was not the time; she would only fly when the North Wind required her to do so.

“I hope it is not a bother for you my staying here this night, I do not want to impede on your sleep,” Isabliss smiled to the stallion, “Thank you kind sir, it is a pleasure to meet you as well Sir Adrian.”

He smiled at the mare, she talked as if she was ageless. It was very intriguing to him. She was like a mortal goddess...at least that was the light she was beginning to take on in his eyes.

Was it normal to feel so strongly about a stranger he had just met? He briefly wished his father was around for him to ask but reprimanded himself just after the thought crossed his mind. He was an adult now, Ignis had said so himself and he would prove the old man right. (Ignis would hit him over the head with a wing for calling him old, he knew.)

"Of course not!" he exclaimed, blushing at being called 'sir'. "I'm not tired anyway, not really that is. Sure my wings are but I could stay up all night!" he boasted, puffing up the slightest bit.

It was now completely dark, the world seemed to sleep around the two winged soquili; silence filled the glen only to be interrupted by the breath of the soquili and the words they spoke. Around the clearing the trees appeared to be darkened beings that looked on with curiosity.

Isabliss could not help but smile at the stallion’s exclamation and how he seemed to puff up at his own words, although she was sure he would be tired soon enough, for it was not normal for one to stay up constantly at night and not have lasting affects the next day, “I am sure you could, but would that not affect your travels tomorrow? I would not want you to fall asleep while flying.” The angeni tilted her head to the side and then thought about her own words, would it be possible to fall asleep in flight? It was not something she wanted to find out at the expense of others.

Adrian laughed lightly at the thought of someone falling asleep while flying. To him it seemed impossible to be so tired that he would doze off doing something he loved so much. He laughed harder at the image of someone slamming into a cliff or tree because of it.

"I'll be fine, I don't think I could fall asleep flying if I tried!" he exclaimed, still chuckling.

Besides, if he fell asleep he would lose time with the beauty next to him. Adrian had a feeling that this was a fleeting encounter and they would part ways in the morning.

He tilted his eyes towards the sky as the stars got brighter while the faint glow in the horizon continued to get darker. It was truly night now and he was torn between gazing at Isabliss and the sky, both were breathtaking.

"May I ask what brings you here on this night?" he asked, wondering about the mysterious beauty, "Besides the stars, that is."

Her head returned to center as she cast her gaze over the long maned stallion before her, the image he must have conjured from her words must have been something hilarious for his laugh was deep and continuous; Isabliss could not help but give a small smile in return. Laughter opened one’s self to new beginnings and a new view on life; it was a precious moment when shared between friends.

“You may say you will be fine, but I will still worry since I am the one keeping you from the precious Realm of Dreams.” Isabliss found her silver eyes going back up to the stars, she had once a conversation with a flutter about traveling to the stars; it was still a conversation that weighed heavily on the sleepless angeni’s heart.

Eyes half closed, she removed her gaze from the heavens to look upon the young stallion, a coy smile appeared on the older mare’s countenance, “Why the Wind of course. It calls to me, calls to my soul and summons me to travel the world and meet new Soquili, much like yourself. The North Wind has taken me to many lands, and it still has many more to show me still and new friends I have yet to discover.”

He smiled at her response, and as if summoned by her words a gentle breeze picked up and began playing with strands of their hair. They were standing just close enough that fine orange danced briefly with dark gray. Adrian sighed contentedly, happy to be in the presence of such a radiant being.

It made his chest ache to think of the night ending, even though he had only known the beautiful mare beside him for a little over an hour. It was clear to his eyes that she was stunning inside and out.

"I must admit I envy you. I wish I could let the wind take me where it would, to new people and adventure. However, I believe my father and sister would worry for me too much." he gazed at the sky wistfully.

To be able to fly anywhere he pleased, anytime. Following the call of the wind was something he hoped to do someday, but he knew if he left Ignis would hunt him down out of concern and paternal anger. He shivered at the thought of the thrashing his sister would give him for leaving without telling her too.

"Do you have anyone to miss you?" he wondered suddenly, aloud.

Isabliss felt the soft breeze tickle her face and watched as it mixed their two different color strands of hair, creating an interesting scene, on that reminded her of a lightning storm. He was still really young, but he was bestowing upon her his youthful exuberance and in turn it made her feel young again, for she had not been young since she was a foal who was raised without parents, one learned to grow up fast.

“You are blessed to have a love deep within your father and sister that would keep you based in one place; traveling the world, albeit it be an adventure, it is also quite lonely, for I never know if I will meet again those who I have met. For that, I envy you Adrian. “ She gave him a sad smile, the life she lived she would not recommend, unless the soquili traveled with another who was of like mind and did not mind traveling the world at the wind’s whim.

She tilted her head to the side as she contemplated his words, “I am sure I have a few who I have met that miss me, and the words ‘Friends never say goodbye’ comes to my mind. Perhaps I will never see them again, but they were friends for that short amount of time and will always be with me,” Isabliss looked up at the stars again, feeling comforted by their presence as she usually did, “The ones who I miss the most are my two lovely sons, and I am sure there are times when they miss me as well.”

Adrian watched the beautiful mare beside him gaze wistfully at the stars as she spoke of friends left behind, and of her sons. A piercing pain struck his chest, and it took a moment to realize it was heartache. He was suddenly missing his little family fiercely. Though Ignis was stifling sometimes in his over-protectiveness and Sophia teased him about his hair all of the time, he still loved them both very much. (He was too old to say it to their faces of course, but he could think it and admit it to himself easily enough.)

"That is...sad. I wonder if they miss you a lot." he paused, wondering if he could be so bold as to say what he thought next, "and, I know I would miss you for certain."

As soon as the words left his mouth he blushed and looked down at his white hooves, "That is to say, I feel like you are my friend already. I would be, sad if I never saw you again. Do you think, maybe, you might come back here one day?"

He could tell she had no intention of staying with him beyond the night, everything she had said since he met her had implied as much. Adrian wished somehow that that could change.
