He would have stayed there all night, or whatever time it had been, but he was sent to go home. Of course, no one really knew he didn't live at home anymore. He returned to his apartment, barely furnished as it was with the help from Paris, but not quiet 'home' yet. He returned only to go to his bed, a lucky find of a used mattress, and flopped down into the comfort of his quilt. Before he knew it, he was asleep.

It was late in the afternoon when he woke up, and he quickly showered, dressed, and hit the streets. He first went on a short patrol to find a quick grab of energy, taking the orb and swallowing it, before deciding he would find two more people and gather 2 orbs. It wasn't much, but he wasn't sure if they were needed. He was pretty sure they wouldn't be. Pretty sure………but not absolutely sure.

It had torn at him to leave Tanzanite in the state she had been in, and he wasn't sure if she had left or - He couldn't shake the feeling he would see her cold, lifeless body wasting away where he last left her. Youma or not, she needed help, and if there wasn't a hospital around, he at least hoped she went home to rest and recover in her own covers with whoever could tend to her. Sister. Friend. Boyfriend?

He knew so little about Tanzanite, but he hoped only the best for her.

Even though he was sure he wouldn't need it, he teleported to the Negaverse subspace just to ease his nerves. She was home. She was safe and sound and sipping on some apple juice while watching TV. She probably was telling whoever was taking care of her some elaborate story about how she was mugged and was too embarrassed to go to the hospital. That she didn't need it. He knew Tanzanite could be convincing.

Even with this fantasy in his mind, he moved a little faster down the corridor he had just yesterday dragged the girl, a very short crutch, an lead her to the room. He hoped to see an empty room. Barren. Nothing. He was being silly – and when he first arrived, he wanted to breath out a sigh of relief and laugh at himself. Then he held his breath. She was on the ground, laying still.

He ran over, thinking over and over Bealive.Bealive.Bealive.Bealive.Bealive.Bealive.A mantra prayer that he hoped would force the world in his favor. He slid down to his knees and touched her, touching her human wrist for a pulse. "Tanzanite? Are you okay?"

Some of us are still human, Tanzanite.

The words had brought out a side of the fanatic General that few among their ranks would ever see. They had struck a chord in Tanzanite that she could not have kept silent no matter how hard she tried. In a moment of weakness she had let out every bit of her pain and anger and sadness in front of Wolframite and Zanazziite, and had fallen asleep in the very same corner she was laying in when Wolframite returned.

And boy, did she ever look like s**t.

The energy they had given her had helped. The patches of flesh that her Arm had assimilated were a deep grey, almost matching the natural black of the rest of it. However, her eyes were still ringed with dark circles of exhaustion, the left side of her face still battered and bruised. Her pulse was slower than an average human's, a result of the thick, oily blood that ran through her corrupted veins. However, she was very much alive, and she awoke at Wolframite's touch with a sudden start. Eyes wide, lips pulled back in a snarl, she bolted upright.

Only for dizziness to wash over her and bring her right back down. From within the Crystal coffin, Charonite and Nealite watched, silent and still. Charonite would have looked at her, knelt down and placed his heavy hands upon her shoulders. He would have lifted her head up and stared her down, grey eyes on grey eyes, and told her that this was war. He would have told her to get the ******** up and walk it off.

But Charonite was gone, and it was Wolframite now who looked at her with worried eyes.

“Yes,” she spoke after a long moment, blinking in the darkness as though momentarily unsure of where she was. The memories came rushing back. The summoning. Elysion. Scheelite. Slowly, Tanzanite pushed herself up to a sitting position, “How long have I been asleep?”

Tanzanite was a General, and one that had called her troops with such emotion and inspiration, who had so much power at her disposal, and had always been a gleaming example of what a true officer should be. To see her bruised and curled on the cold ground like some kicked stray made him angry and miserable at the same time, and he looked at her with deep concern. She clearly needed to get some sleep, and her tittering frame – a thinner frame then he had remembered – said she needed to recover someplace better than here.

"You've been asleep all night and most of the day. Why didn't you go home? You should be in your bed and resting. Not laying around on the ground and getting sicker from the cold." Her uniform didn't provide any semblance of warmth, especially with parts being torn. It was clear she hadn't' even powered down or else her uniform would have mended herself – not that he cared for her clothes to be fixed. What makeshift bandages he offered her from his uniform were all but dried and useless, and he was now worried about infection and her catching a cold.

Why was she putting herself through this? Tired or not, wouldn't she have just teleported home? Maybe she couldn't? Maybe she was out of energy. "This isn't a place for you to be resting, especially the floor. This place is just for meeting and yo –" He paused, cutting off his word. He had been there to witness Scheelite's words about humanity thrown at her, and while he was glad Scheelite was back, he wanted to punch the blonde in the back of the head for saying such a thing about the general.

"You shouldn't be sleeping here. I'm taking you to Lina's. You can't stay around here. We need to get you to bed, wrap up those cuts, and get you something to eat." He just hoped Lina didn't mind if he dropped in. He had only been to her place once, but if Tanzanite couldn't teleport there, he would do it for her. Then she was going straight to bed and he'd get her settled in. She looked exhausted and ill. To think she spent all night alone on the floor. He was sick just thinking about it.

Being careful, he tried to life the girl up, but then remembered the orbs, taking both and offering them to her. "Take these. Just to help you stand a bit more. I'm going to take you to bed."

“I don't have the energy to teleport,” she admitted, though reluctant to acknowledge such a weakness. There was no denying that she had overexerted herself in the battle, and now she was paying the price for her overzealousness. She had removed the armor plating that covered her legs and shoulder, and she began to gather them from the pile where they sat. Deciding better of it, she simply took a moment to close her eyes, focus, and power down.

Unlike others, it took a great deal of effort for Tanzanite to bundle up the power of the Negaverse and force it back inside of her. It was the opposite experience that most officers endured, in which they found remaining in Negaverse form tiresome after too many hours. For Tanzanite, it was more like trying to keep a spring collapsed; it was always there, the dark power trying to spring back into existence. She kept it down long enough to shift back into human form, her black arm somehow compacted into a rather normal looking replacement. Only her fingernails, matte black and slightly sharp, showed that it was anything but a normal arm.

“Fortunately, germs evolved to live in a human system. As Captain Scheelite pointed out,” Aree purposefully avoided looking at the Captain for a moment, though a flash of agitation crossed her features. She knew the blonde Captain had spoken out of frustration, but as Linarite could have told anyone, it was a sore subject for the half youma General, “I doubt my body is a suitable host. I've never seen a youma with a flu.”

Her arm, even compacted into the illusion of a human limb, eagerly sucked up the energy. Her skin looked a little healthier, the circles beneath her eyes lightening a shade or two.

“I have a mother, Captain Wolframite,” she managed through a yawn, though she accepted his assistance in standing. She did not mentioning that she had not seen said mother since shortly after her corruption, “I do not need another one.”

Still, she could not supress a faint smile at the way the Captain fussed over her like a worried mother. It reminded her of the way Nealite had once done so, and Linarite after her.

Her faint smile became a full on grin at his last sentence, “Don't let Linarite hear you say that.”

What was that? A sense of humor from Tanzanite?

Miracles happened.

He frowned at the very statement that she continued to bring up. Youma. He knew she had a youma arm, and that ever since first meeting her, her skin had turned darker and darker. It didn't take a rocket surgeon to know that something was going on, and the mention over and over since seeing Tanzanite that she wasn't human anymore did not stand with him. Sure, she had some dark fingers and her arm ate people -

He paused in thought. No. He wasn't going to think about that.

- but she was clearly still a human woman. She might have two voices, but one was human. She wasn't some of those savage youma that went around in the dark and just ate and ate and killed and killed. She thought, she cared, and she felt.

"I don't like you talking like that. You need to stop it. You’re a General and a member of this team as much as anyone else, and you are human and you CAN get sick and you will catch your death laying on the floor. Don't even start telling me otherwise." He held get her to her feet, glad when she took the energy and looked slightly less worse than she did before. She certainly didn't look like a shoe in for Miss Destiny City, but she didn't look like an extra from the Thriller video either.

While Tanzanite had humor, it was with the wrong audience. The boy holding her up nearly toppled over at the mention of doing….THAT… with her. Flushed, he shook his head. "I wouldn’t…I didn't mean it like that. I'm taking you to get some rest. Not…not that thing." A bit too serious? Probably. Sex jokes of any sort usually either made him uncomfortable, red, and were usually taken seriously instead of joke before someone corrected him. Lucky for Tanzanite, he was doing all three, already growing a faint pink. It probably would have been more noticeable if the Negaverse didn’t' have such poor lightly.

"Hold on a bit." He told her, as he near really practiced teleporting two people before. Still, he at least COULD teleport and probably had gotten a much better night's sleep than she did. If Tanzanite had wanted to protest in any way, it was too late now.

With a tugging pull, they were whisked away from the Negaverse, from the empty space, the crawling youma, the dark shadows and the glimmering crystal incasing the past royalty of the Negaverse, Charonite and Nealite, and arrived in Lina's apartment.

WOW! That was a energy sapper. He felt a little light headed, but all in all, he managed it. He took a moment to take pride in his small achievement before looking back up at the officer. Well, she wasn't in uniform anymore. What did he call her? "I'm going to take you to bed now, okay – uh, to sleep." He said, this time correcting his sentence before it could be seen as dirty. Why he was telling her every little thing he was doing, he didn't know why. It was like telling a bleeding victim to breathe normally and that they would be getting help. Maybe he was just nervous and wanted to comfort her a bit.

He noticed that Lina's apartment wasn't that big, and that aside from the basics and a hallway, it didn’t' take any figuring out to find the bedroom. The moment he spotted the bed, he brought her over and set her down. It was certainly a relief to let her off, not being the tallest or strongest person out there, not that he minded! It just made for a very awkward setup when you were acting as the crutch. It was times like this, out of many, that he wished he was taller.

Aree listened as he lectured, and the smile stayed on her lips all the while. The way Wolframite reddened, and the way she laughed in response, was a testament to his words; they were still human. No matter was atrocities they had committed in Beryl's name, no matter how many lives they had taken, they were still humans. Still part of their strange, dark family, no matter what happened to them during their tenure as officers in the Dark Kingdom.

It was a small comfort, but a comfort nevertheless.

The Negaverse faded out around her, darkness melting into utter blackness for a brief second before the brighter colors of Linarite's safehouse apartment took shape around them. Aree stumbled a bit on their arrival; even though it was not her power transporting them, being teleported by someone else in a weakened state was enough to make the woman sway under a wave of nausea. She steadied herself with a deep breath, trying to shift her weight from Wolframite and onto her own two feet.

It was not an entirely successful venture, and she was leaning on the black-haired Captain once again as he escorted her to the bedroom. She eased herself onto the bed with his assistance, hissing softly as her sore ribs ******** senshi. Who threw someone twenty feet into solid rock? Really, it was just rude.

Aree made a mental note to break Sailor Scyllas spine in half.

“How are your injuries,” she said at last, “Wolf-” Aree paused, realizing she was not aware of his human name, and provided hers as a courtesy, “Aree.”

If it had been anyone else chuckling at him, he might have gotten angry, but Tanzanite had a lot of immunity from his typically quick-to-be-defensive attitude. As he settled her down, he froze as she hissed and looked up at her in one of many 'Are you alright?' looks he would be giving her. Even with her injuries doing better than before, even though he had seen how much damage she could deal and take, he still treated anyone that was hurt as if they were a porcelain doll and he had slippery fingers.

Carefully, he pulled away, slowly as he looked up at her when she spoke a name. Not his, and it took him a moment to realize who's it was. "Your name is Aree?" He asked, thinking that of all the names he could have tried pinning on her, he would have never guessed that. It suited her, if he thought about it, but when he thought of names for Tanzanite, all failed to do her justice. They were either too sweet, too delicate, or just names of girls who he always associated as bitches. Then again, these were names of ordinary, unimpressive people he heard and met in his everyday life. Tanza -….. Aree wasn't everyday ordinary.

"I'd been meaning to ask you, but I didn’t want to pry." Though he did feel it was very important to know a negeverser's full name if he could get it. He felt that he at least knew them if the worst should ever happen. "My name's Ladon. Ladon Shepard." To this, he then remembered he was in uniform, and let the outfit dissolve away. He wasn't wearing anything impressive. Sweater, jeans, sneakers, and a peacoat with a scarf. His eyepatch had disappeared and was now replaced with what looked like a normal eye, not known to be a prosthetic. Now overdressed, he started to take the scarf off, and considered his own wounds.

"They're okay. I cleaned and wrapped them last night. Had to do some stitching though, but at least I brought my sewing things with me, and that my place at least has ice and hot water." The ice took down the swelling when he went to bed, and he was VERY glad he could get a hot bath. However, carrying Tanzanite around had made his chest sore again, but he wasn't about to make her feel guilty about it. "I took some energy before I got here. First time." He never did ingest anything he got from a person. He never once ate a starseed, and he had been reluctant to take in the orb of energy. However, he had felt horrid and didn't want to have any wounds get infected if he could simply just speed up the process a bit.

"I'm going to find the first aid kit. Orbs or not, you still need all those cuts wrapped." He rose up, wondering if it would be smarter to make a bath for Tanzanite, but then thinking that was a little insulting. He turned, and went off to find a bowl to pour warm water in, a washcloth and towel, and wherever Lina kept the bandages and peroxide.

Ow.

Ow.

Ow.

Every step caused an ache to shoot through her back, a delayed consequence of her high-speed impact with the ground. Again her vision blurred white with momentary rage; she really was going to kill that damn senshi.

Her anger was swiftly replaced with amusement the more Wolframite spoke; a sewing kit? She didn't even own a sewing kit. Then again, she also didn't own more than a few changes of clothes and a single pair of shoes. Aree Cadence had been poor as a human girl, and much of what she had owned had been cleaned out of her apartment during her time in Europe. Now, her few belongings sat in a box by the bed Wolfraite helped her onto.

One of Ursula Killingworth's throw pillows was visible, just beneath a faded old t-shirt and a small, dried out bouquet; the one she had held at the wedding that would ultimately doom the Negaverse's former leaders.

Aree was dressed now in the same black pajama pants and tank top she had been dressed in when she had last powered up. It had been days ago, and her attempts at pinpointing the exact moment in time were useless. Her days blurred together now, a constant stream of energy-gathering, fighting, and trying to ignore the constant, nagging fear that everything might fall through at any moment. She looked down at her own arms, at the patches of skin that had been scraped away by rocks and dirt. One of the cuts had a small pebble still wedged in it.

“Sewing things,” she said, shaking her head. She was... well, surprised, to say the least, “You're quite the bag of wonders, Ladon Shepard.”

Ladon hadn't noticed his minor slipup with mentioning he could sew, not that it was any wonder. The great job he did on altering their uniforms to look like senshi certainly said he knew his way around a needle and thread when most would just make do with a glue gun and hope for the best. It had been a sad state that the uniforms had been destroyed after and all that work was lost, but he knew it served its purpose well. From sewing to simply figuring out a human name, the two of them were learning a lot about each other, slowly but surely.

Right now, Ladon was trying to learn the setup of Lina's place. The last time he had been here, he just laid on the floor in the living room and worried over Tanzanite. Then again, he was doing that now. The damage the woman put herself in greatly upset him, and while she was a force to be reckoned with on the field, he wished she'd be less reckless at times.

Shoving a chair over into the kitchen, Ladon stepped up and grabbed a bowl from the top shelf, then went into the bathroom to find a very stocked first aid kit, a towel, two washcloths, poured some hot water in the bowl, and juggled it all as he went into the bedroom where Aree was. His jacket, scarf, and mittens were left in the kitchen. Stepping over, he set the bowl on the nightstand, glad he didn’t spill any water but managing to soak his sleeves a bit, and looked at her. "I'm really good at first aid. We'll just clean the wounds out and bandage them up." He pointed to the bandages he made when he tore up his uniform, surprised they stayed there. "I'm going to have to undo that. It's going to hurt." Usually one would just leave the bandages on, but he felt that with the energy consumed, that the wounds wouldn't be gushing out blood like before and could be changed for better, cleaner bandages. He just didn’t want her to lose any other limbs to gangrene.

Opening the first aid kit, he put some rolls of gauze aside, glad that Lina kept her entire thing more than stocked, and found some peroxide in a brown bottle. Setting that aside, he looked up and slowly settled himself next to her. "I'll be as quick as I can." He pointed out, and reached up to undo the first bandage. There was only two makeshift bandages, but he wasn't sure if he would be pulling any tissue with it.
PostPosted: Wed Feb 16, 2011 6:27 am

Aree wasn't quite sure how to do anything at anything less than full speed. She was an all or none type of woman, and that went for off the battlefield as well as on it. It was the reason she made a good fighter, but also the reason she found herself vomiting up blood in front of the rest of the Negaverse. She was a force of destruction – hell, she hardly knew anything else those days – but like a Triple Crown contender, she had a bad habit of pushing herself further than her body could take. If the senshi were smart, they would stop trying to kill her and just goad her into killing herself on accident.

This was Aree's definition of give and take.

While Wolframite went about preparing to treat the wounds, Aree made her own preparations. Beneath the bed was a thin wooden rod, bite marks stretching from one end to the other. Aree clamped it between her teeth and pulled her hair back into a loose ponytail. If the scars and bruises weren't an indication, she had undergone a dozen such repair sessions with Audrey, Nealite, and Charonite.

She knew what was coming.

“Alright,” she sighed around the biting rod, her words muffled, “Let's get this over with.”

Briefly, she held his gaze, and gave a thankful nod. It was far from Aree's nature to trust anyone, especially with such a task as tending to her injuries. It was a duty often reserved for Linarite alone. Aree had a plethora of issues, but perhaps none so severe as her lack of trust. Pale fingers wrapped into the bedsheets, and the General nodded to indicate her readiness.

It wasn't something he liked to see as she prepared for the worst. In fact, Aree looked as if he was getting ready to take a bonesaw to her arm, and he hated the fact he would be inflicting pain to her in any way when she went through enough already. As much as he wanted to be careful, he knew that it had to be done. He went through first aid several times to keep it up to date and learning any new or changed procedures. Clean bandages kept a wound closed off from germs and dirt, and that meant he had to take the old ones off that were dirty.

"Okay. I'll try to be careful. ….I'm sorry, Aree." He added, and reached up to untie the first bandage and start feeling it away. A few bits of dead tissue clung to the fabric, and he set it aside when at last it plucked free from it's hold. The wound wasn't looking grand, and he held a cloth under it as he then poured peroxide over it. The wound frothed white before it simmered down, the dirt and other things washed onto the cloth. He looked at it a moment just to make sure that he couldn't see anything stuck in the tissue, not wanting any pebbles or rocks left in to heal into or under her skin, and set a small pad of bandage cloth on top of it to stop any bleeding, and then started to wrap the arm tightly enough to keep it in place, but not enough to cut vital circulation.

He did the same thing for the other wound, setting aside the other bandage to the side and cleaning it out several times with peroxide as it was dirtier than the other, he wrapped this up too. Whatever wounds he saw, he would look up to Aree for permission, then move over and wrap them. All the while, he was forever thankful that Lina kept her first aid heavily stocked with bandages. After all was said and done, he leaned back and looked up, feeling a little warm from nerves but relieved it was over. "I'm sorry it took so long, but they should be better now. I'm going to get you something to drink, Okay?" He gathered the used bandages and the bowl of water and rags he used to clean and let catch dirt and peroxide, and left a moment to set them aside in the bathroom and then go to the fridge to find something for Aree to drink. She was probably stressed and would need some sugar or something.

He found a bottle of juice in the fridge, noting that there wasn't any perishables in it, checked the expiration date, and then went back. He twisted the cap and handed it to her.

It wasn't the pain that worried Tanzanite; it was a matter of control.

Injured, physically and emotionally, the General had less control over the darker side of herself. While woman and youma now shared a single mind, there was still an instinctual side of that dark power that wanted nothing but death. It craved killing the way Tanzanite as a human never could, and the General knew well enough that her control over that was a fragile and fleeting thing. It had shown when she'd overexerted herself in combat, when she'd eaten through the chest of a dying Lieutenant to power her body past it's natural limits.

Power, especially that which came from the Negaverse, was always a double-edged sword.

Her teeth ground into the stick at the familiar sting of peroxide. It was nowhere near as painful as what any of their officers had endured in that battle, but tired and weak, Tanzanite was not taking any chances. The last thing she wanted was to wake from a blackout standing over Wolframite's corpse.

She leaned back as he finished, the rasping youma's voice muttering curses beneath her own calm, polite, “Thank y-” Tanzanite cleared her throat, and the obscenities stopped, “Thank you, Wolframite.”

And then, he brought her juice, and Tanzanite just thought that was the most adorable ******** thing she'd ever seen. Which was odd, given that Tanzanite's list of adorable things was topped by a mental image of Castor's screaming face as she gripped his starseed. So charming.

She accepted the juice in one hand, but did not sip it. It sat in her lap, her pale and black-nailed fingers Still weak, still injured, the Arm would have spit out almost anything other than energy at that point in time. She had been healed beyond and real worries, but only time would allow the youma to use the energy it had been given to fully repair itself.

“You're quite the nurse, Wolframite,” she smiled, just ignorant enough to still think of 'nurse' as a distinctly feminine term, “And shaping up to be quite the fighter, I saw.”

If it had been anyone else, he might have been offended. Nurse wasn't exactly a complement at times, but when it meant helping a respected teammate out, it was something he took to heart with only the best implications. He did well, and with the added bonus of being a good fighter. He certainly didn't feel that way, but when was Wolframite or Ladon ever not humble enough to just brag about himself? It was because he always looked to the goal of others, of how amazing of a fighter they were that kept him on sight and also kept him comparing at all times. Still, like most of those in the Negaverse, what little compliments given, small scraps of praise from a superior, he ate happily and glimmered with appreciation.

"Thanks, but this isn't much." He gestured to her bandages. "Basic first aid. Anyone can do it. I just got in a lot of practice." Not only while taking a class, but because he had to deal with his own injuries. You managed to live just a short time to get to Captain, and you were sure to have dressed your own wounds once or twice. He just did it better than most. "..and I like helping out when I can." It wasn't like he could do much, but the things like supporting someone in battle or dressing their wounds made him feel more powerful than punching someone at times.

"..and I just barely managed to hold my own on the field. Facing that many senshi at times, seeing all of them at once, it really says a lot when we can hold our own and not get destroyed." Or slaughtered……………………………………………….

He went quiet, eye watching the hand, now human, resting on the bed. Bandages, it hardly looked capable of twisting off the cap from a soda bottle, let alone devouring a person's insides. "But that's why it's good we stick together and watch out for each other. Keep them safe…….I'm sure you'd protect and save anyone you could on the field….right?" His unsure eyes rose up to meet her own, and it had a small plea that what he had seen was all a lie, but he knew it wasn't. She'd killed a fellow officer, and despite wanting to take care of her, his own morals and beliefs demanded he address this point. It could mean forever staining the image he had of Tanzanite, an officer that, despite being a woman, was one of the people he looked to the most as an idol of what he hoped to become and achieve.

Aree knew immediately what Ladon was referring to. She would likely never forget the look on his face when he had seen what she'd done. The way he had stared in absolute horror as she took the life of an already dying Lieutenant for her own power gain. It had been a necessary sacrifice, a faster end than the one he would have inevitably had, but Aree had never before needed to explain those reasons. They were carved into her mind. The Negaverse acted only in the interest of the Earth, its people, and its rightful Queen. Whatever atrocities she might commit, she knew they were for a higher cause. Some greater good.

As long as she acted in the name of the Negaverse, she served Earth itself.

If it were anyone other than Ladon, she would have likely popped in a Lion King DVD and let Mufasa explain all about the circle of life. For him, however, the General slowly pushed herself up into a sitting position, and watched him carefully.

He deserved more than a dismissive answer.

“I would save anyone I could,” she said after a long moment, “but I cannot save everyone. Some people, like that man, are beyond saving. A senshi cut him open like a fish, Ladon, neck to groin. Some skirted b***h looked him in the eye and cut No amount of starseeds or stitching can fix a man who is trying – and failing - to hold in his own guts.” It was a blunt statement, harshly worded and harshly spoken. She had not doubted for a moment that the Lieutenant was doomed, and her need to kill the senshi far surpassed her considerations of last wishes and burial rites.

“We're in a war, Ladon, and the fate of seven billion people depend on us. On a few dozen soldiers who can barely hold our ground against an endless sea of senshi. We were not born with our power, as they were. We were born human, and we have been given the gift of being able to fight for this planet and every person on it who was not born...” Her face twisted with the word, spitting it out as though it were rotten, “special. But with that comes the burden of having to take human lives for that power. We must sacrifice everything, even our fellow citizens of Earth, just to hold onto our home. They sacrifice nothing, and they think this place is theirs to rule.”

By the end, enthusiasm was thick in her voice, anger apparent in her narrowed brow and downturned lips. She had slowly sat up more and more, until a wave of dizziness and a moment of blurred vision had her leaning back against the headboard.

“That Lieutenant would have died either way,” she said quietly, “ I did what I could to make sure he did not do so in vain.”

He probably would have liked the Disney version of the idea of necessary death better, and while it was a sign of maturity and respect to handle Ladon without kid gloves, he wished there had been a bit of a buffer. It was one of the many hard pills he had to swallow in his time as a Negaverser, breaking down his beliefs or twisting them to something that would keep him working, sane, and feeling as if he was doing right. In that tie, those hard pills slowly absorbed into new beliefs, but this one was going to take a while. It wasn't something that he could easily nod to Tanzanite about, and he remained quiet, almost wincing at her hard delivery of a complex situation. When Aree wanted to be tactful and eloquent, she could execute it perfectly, but at times like this, she had a rather dull, blunt way of handling things.

It was quiet after, and he looked up to notice how sick and pained she looked. He had nothing else to say, and he rose up. "Sorry for keeping you up. You should be sleeping. Go get some rest." It was an easy out, and frankly, he was tired too. Moving to the door, he turned to look over at her. "I expect you to drink at least half of that." To which he pointed to the juice, and then turned. "I'll be here when you wake up so call if you need me." He then shut the door, leaving it just a crack open if she wanted to call out.

Moving into the living room, he thought about figuring out the pull-out couch, but decided he would rather just lay on the couch instead, plopping face first into a cushion. While it might be necessary, the idea of killing his own teammates, bothered him. He had seen that poor lieutenant look up and, if he was there, having that officer look at him for mercy, would he be strong enough to help him and was that help killing him?

He had killed before, but that was a new step for him, and as far as he had come since first becoming an officer, he didn't know if he was at that point. He just hoped he never would be tested or called upon to do just that.
