The old rules thread was heavily outdated and painfully TL;DR. This should hopefully be better.
1. As with the main guild rules, keep it PG-13. Some exceptions may be allowable, but send a PM to ask first. No explicit sexual content is allowed. Profanity is permissible, but for fanfics, keep it in-character.
2. Do try to maintain a decently high standard of writing. Chatspeak should only occur if the characters in question are actually using instant messaging, and even then, only if it's within reason and in-character.
3. Avoid Mary Sues, Gary Stus, unwanted wangst, Purple (or Beige) Prose, and the like. If you aren't familiar with the terms, look them up. They really don't add anything good to a story.
4. Do your research, particularly on the nature of mythical beings, timeline appropriateness, and canon information. It makes writing better, as a general rule.
5. Be open to constructive criticism, whether it may seem somewhat harsh or not. The point of concrit is to help you develop as an author.
6. No bashing or outright flaming, although the brutally honest approach to criticism is acceptable as long as it isn't taken too far.
7. Don't be afraid to ask for a beta reader. Having someone look over your work can be a great help.
8. For fanfics, try not to ship just because "it's hot". Plausible ships only, please.
