Esche had a terrible dilemma. There was an awful itch on his back, just out of reach. He had tried rubbing his back up against a tree, hoping the rough texture of the bark would soothe the irritating sensation, but satisfaction had eluded him. It seemed the itch was too much in the center of his back to be properly reached that way.
After several attempts, Esche finally flopped down into the grass with a deep sigh. Otherwise it was a good day, the sun was shining and he'd been able to find food relatively easily. He began considering rolling around in the grass a bit in hopes of soothing the still persistent itch. Though he really would rather not, his coat would get all dirty and he'd have a new dilemma of the cleaning sort on his paws.

Manelesi was strolling through the grasses at the savannah, and he had an itch of his own. And when he spotted the pale lion laying in the grass, he thought he found his solution.
Well, maybe. It all depended on the lion.
"Hey there!" he said brightly. "What are you doing out here? Everything ok?"
Manelesi gave the lion his best debonair grin, and walked closer to him. He was a nice big fellow, just the kind of guy that Manelesi liked. His girls, he liked smaller. Now, if he just had a dark mane . . . well, he couldn't have everything in life.
"I'm Manelesi."

Blinking in slight surprise, Esche looked at the newcomer. It was a pale white and yellow cheetah with darker goldish markings who introduced himself as Manelesi. Esche reasoned that he must have been so distracted with his itch that he hadn't smelled any other animals around.
"Everything is fine I suppose. Just an unreachable itch." His answer came out even toned, like he was talking about the weather rather then something that had been a frustration to him for a while. He also did not return Manelesi's smile. It wasn't that he was being unfriendly, it was just Esche did not smile easily.
"It is good to meet you, I am Esche." He gave a little nod of his head to the cheetah.

"An unreachable itch? That must be pretty bad for you."
Manelesi was quite delighted with the lion's problem, but did his best to look sympathetic. It usually took more of an effort to get an excuse to touch another feline - especially leopards, they were fickle things. Also, far to fond of climbing trees. Manelesi didn't do well in trees. He was from a noble line of speedsters, powerful and respected, and he felt it was beneath his dignity to go jumping about tree limbs like a monkey just for some attention.
Happily, this lion was on the ground.
"Want me to help out?"

Esche gave a nod of agreement. "I has been rather troublesome." He had to agree there, but also he had to pause and think if he wanted to let this other male touch him. Esche didn't have much experience with cheetahs to get a good feel for them, though he had learned that you couldn't lump everyone in with their group. This particular cheetah could be very different from his fellows.
But that itch was boring a hole into Esche's back and whatever second thoughts he had about Manelesi touching him were seeming less important by the second. Finally he gave a second nod. "If you wouldn't mind, I'd be grateful." Manelesi seemed friendly enough, so probably didn't mean him any harm. It wasn't like he had anything Manelesi want to take after all, Esche reasoned with himself. Besides that, Esche had a feeling he could take the smaller male in a fight if it came to that.

Delighted, Manelesi moved closer to the lion, put one paw against his back, and with the other started stratching along his spine, claws extended just enough to actually scratch instead of just rubbing.
"Is this where it itches, or higher or lower?" Manelesi decided it would be best to move slowly with this one, and not just go crazy on him. Make the introduction nice and smooth and set him at ease.

Esche could not help the pleased little purr that escaped him as Manelesi started scratching his back. It truly felt divine. He settled his head down onto his paws, preparing to enjoy the ensuing back scratch. "Mm, just a bit lower. Just a little to the right." He instructed, his voice taking on a purry tone.
Had Esche any idea what Manelesi was after, he would not be in this position.

When the lion started purring, Manelesi could feel his bones vibrate. He certainly had a powerful set of lungs on him.
Obediently, he started scratching lower, and a little to the right. Even with the purring, he could feel that Esche was very tense. Obviously, he didn't relax enough. He needed to have more fun. And Manelesi was the cheetah to make sure it happened.
"You're awfully tense, Esche. You should get your mate to give you a nice rub down. Your back must ache something fierce."

Esche was a very tense lion, but right now he was more relaxed then he could remember being in a while. "Yes, that's the spot. There." It felt amazing. That annoying itch was finally being scratched. There was almost nothing more satisfying then having something that's been bothering you squashed firmly.
Eshe gave a purry sound of agreement. "My back does ache often. I don't have a mate. Usually I'm how you found me." Esche had a fling or two in the past, but definitely nothing lasting more then a week or two. He didn't stick around others that long. He honestly didn't think he'd ever settle down with a mate because he'd be too afraid of losing them.

Manelesi kept his delighted grin to himself.
"Why don't I try and take care of that for you? You'll feel a lot better once some of these lumps in your back are taken care of."
Manelesi started kneading along the lion's spine with his front paws, without waiting for permission. Strike while the lion is relaxed, and all that. He wouldn't know what hit him.

As far as Esche could tell there was absolutely nothing to complain about. So this cheetah wanted to massage him? That was fine by him. Esche figured that Manelesi must be trained as a healer of some kind because the kneading felt amazing.
"That feels -" Esche' sentence was interrupted by a loud purr as Manelesi worked on a particularly tense spot. "Amazing." He was completely relaxed to the point where his guard was down. He wouldn't know what hit him indeed.

"Wow, you're really muscular, Esche," Manelesi said, as he moved his paws toward the far side of the lion's back, so he was leaning against him. "It must be nice to be so strong. Cheetahs, we're just fast. But not powerful, like you lions."
Manelesi bent his head down and sniffed the lion's mane. Hm, hmm, he smelled delectable. Manelesi gave him a lick.

Esche had been floating blissfully in his own relaxed little world while Manelesi was saying... something. Something about lions being strong and cheetahs being fast. He could only detachedly agree, and was seriously thinking of giving into the abyss that would be a wonderful nap when something jolted him out of it. Manelesi had licked him.
"Um... why are you licking me Manelesi?" Esche opened his eyes and peered back and Manelei in startled puzzlement.

Manelesi did his best wide eyed and innocent face before realizing it was probably lost on the lion anyway. He didn't realize what Manelesi was after. The cheetah decided to abandon subtle and go for aggressive.
"Why did I lick you? Probably because you look so delicious. And you said you didn't have a mate, so I thought maybe you'd want some attention. You seem to be enjoying it so far."

It was Esche turn to look wide-eyed and truly bewildered. This cheetah wanted to mate with him? "I... but you're a male." Esche had never encountered a male that liked other males in his travels. Manelesi was right, he HAD been enjoying the attention, but he'd also thought it was just some kind of healer thing or something. "I thought you were just....what?" The poor lion was just so confused.
