Daffyd didn't miss his family. Not really. He still didn't feel any remorse about his father's death, either. He hadn't been expecting his father to try to drive him away from the family, but he'd beaten him fairly. That his father had died from his wounds was not Daffyd's fault, he felt, and neither his mother nor his sisters disagreed. Or if they did, they didn't say anything.

Still, he'd left them. They could provide food and company, but not the sort of company Fyd found himself craving as he grew out of adolescence and into full adulthood. So he'd left them. They hadn't offered to come with him, which had annoyed him, but he didn't make a fuss about it. He didn't need a bunch of women following him around as he went in search of a mate. Particularly not women who were related to him.

That had been his reasoning when he set out, but it hadn't taken too many days for the flaw in his reasoning to become apparent. Namely, he had spent his entire life having someone hunt for him and now that he had to do for himself he found he wasn't very good at it, and didn't enjoy it at all. He was hungry and grouchy, and turning out to be a bad hunter.

Mys'ketay had been wandering around the rouge lands for days seeking food. She had not eaten in days and her stomach felt like an emptyless pit. Only recently had she learned how to hunt and in all honesty her skills were terrible. However, she was not going to allow herself to give up. She would continue to hunt for herself until she no longer had to.

A small sigh escaped from her mouth as she hung her head slightly. She was beginning to feel dizzy from the lack of food. Mys'ketay knew she would have to find something to eat in the very near future, unless she prefered to pass out. After a few moments of standing there she lifted her head and walked to the watering hole that was a few feet away. She dipped her mouth into the water and drank until she felt full. Once she had finished she lifted her head and stalked over to a tree. Quickly, she jumped up onto a branch that was a few feet off the ground. "There must be something to eat around here...." She said quietly to herself.

Fyd was not so foolish as to think that the motion he saw from the corner of his eyes was that of some sort of preybeast. For one thing, only very foolish prey came to drink in full daylight. It was simply too dangerous for them. Hunters could see them too well, and would undoubtedly take advantage, and any preybeast interested in preserving its life would have learned that pretty quickly. Besides, he knew of no kind of prey that could leap into trees like that, even just the lower branches. He was looking at another feline.

Not being thirsty, Fyd didn't make a stop at the water hole, but instead mad his way directly to the lioness's tree perch. He was indifferent to the fact that his direct approach would not only spoil her cover but might also scare away any prey she might have been watching. He hadn't noticed anything prey-like, and he was sure he'd been very thorough. If he hadn't seen it, it must not be there.

"Good afternoon," Fyd said pleasantly as he looked up at the pretty lioness in the tree.

Mys'ketay hadn't been paying enough attention to what was going on around her and it was apparent when the dark male had managed to get so close to her. After she had come back to reality she quickly backed up in the tree in order to put some distance from her and the male. She quickly got into a stance that could be read as 'I won't attack you unless you do so first, but I suggest you back up'. Her fur was slightly standing up due to her not willing to take a chance. "Well good afternoon to you as well. May I help you?" She said in a somewhat even tone. Her voice hinted at her stance in which she inteded him to read as back away. Mys'ketay was also slightly curious to why this male had bothered to come so close. Was he looking for something? If so, what? He wasn't a bad looking male, in fact he was rather handsome. However, she would not allow herself to be tricked and then killed.

Some people were more predatory than others when it came right down to it, even in a species which was generally classified as being entirely made up of predators. Daffyd was one of those very predatory types. It actually pleased him when the lioness backed away from him and went on her guard. In his mind, it was a sign that he was an intimidating figure, possibly a threat. Which was how he tended to see himself, and he liked people who reinforced his own personal view of the world.

However, he didn't actually want to scare this particular acquaintance, and while he didn't back away as she might have liked - which would have been a sign of weakness to his way of thinking, and thus totally unacceptable - he did not advance anymore. In fact, he simply sat down on his rump and continued to look up at her, though he had to tilt his head farther back to do so now that she had retreated to higher branches. He figured that sitting down showed two things. First, he wasn't afraid of her. Second, he wasn't going to try anything aggressive.

"I don't know," he answered.

That really depended on what he decided he wanted from her, and he hadn't quite decided that. Certainly she was very attractive, and he could definitely see himself being very well pleased by her as a lion is pleased by his mate, but there was more to a lioness than just a pretty pelt and fine figure. He needed to be sure that her personality suited him, too, before he went to the full effort of wooing her. He thought that might end up being what he wanted in the end, though.

"I suppose I ought to introduce myself," he mused. "I'm Daffyd."

Mys'ketay found herself questioning the male when he silmply sat down not to far from where she stood on the branch. She knew it would be to much to assume the male might turn and walk away, however, she had hoped and prayed that he would do exactly that. Mys'ketay knew right away that he would not be an easy one to lose or lead of his current path. For a moment she wondered exactly what he was trying for. Finally, she concluded she didn't want to know because the answer might not be something she wanted to know. "It's a pleasure to meet you Daffyd." She said instantly regretting the first part of her sentence. "My name is Mys'ketay. You may call me whatever you like." She said with a nod. Again, she looked Daffyd over once more. His pelt reminded her of her own, in the way that they were both brown with white mixed in on their face. Mys'ketay secretly wondered if this male had been sent by her father since he reminded her so much of the pride she left. She sighed and shook her head slightly. She needed to trust males more, not all were bad.... Or at least that is what she had heard a long her travels. "If you require anything, feel free to ask." She said, jumping down onto a lower branch to show that she was willing to give him a chance. However, she sunk no lower because she was not willing to give herself away fully.

In the back of his mind, Daffyd could not help thinking that the lioness's name was absurdly long. Why would anyone saddle a cub with that sort of a name? She had said that he could call her whatever he liked, though, so perhaps she was aware of the difficulties involved with bearing such a name. Of course she was. He did wonder that she didn't have a nickname of some sort that she preferred. Or maybe she had one, and she just didn't feel like telling him what it was.

"I'll call you Mys, then."

What did he say now, he wondered? Meeting new people wasn't something Daffyd had a great deal of experience with, and this meeting was already not going quite as he had planned. It was upsetting, a bit, to think that he was not perfectly in control of his situation, especially since his situation involved a female. Daffyd was accustomed to females being more docile and accommodating.

Not that Mys had so far shown any tendency toward being unaccommodating, but she was not exactly going out of her way to make his life easier, and that, too, had been a part of Daffyd's upbringing. Lionesses were supposed to make lions' lives easier in whatever way they could manage it. Being stand-offish was not as appealing as Daffyd had thought it might be.

"It is good of you to make the offer," Daffyd said. "But I think I will ask you for no favor right now. It would not be fitting, I think."

Mys'ketay nodded as she listened to the male speak. "Mys works for me." She said trying to not give to much away. This male seemed to be alright, however, experiance had taught her better then to just trust a male. "You are very welcome." She replied in kind. "May I ask what brings you this far out into the savannah?" Mys'ketay asked, trying to find out more about Daffyd so that she could better judge if she should run or simply stay where she was.

What was it about this male that seemed to bother her so much? He seemed perfectly fine in personality. Ahhhh. She thought to herself, finally realizing what caused her to fear this male more then others. Daffyd reminded her of the father she left behind. Not that they looked exactly a like, it was just the way they carried themselves. Mys'ketay wasn't sure she wanted to try to get to know this male better or not.

"Hunting," Daffyd answered simply. "I've had little luck though. Probably I will move on tomorrow or the day after. The lands here are lovely, but game seems sparse and there's not much inducement to stay under those conditions."

He rolled his shoulders in something which was almost a shrug and got to his feet, moving a metre away to stretch more fully, gripping the ground with his forepaws' claws and then shifting his weight to his hindquarters to stretch his shoulders and then reversing the action to stretch his haunches. A pleasurable shudder ran down his spine as he completed the stretch and his tail quivered. With a sigh he settled down in his new position, which was a little farther from Mys and her perch.

"What about yourself? Do you live in these lands, or are you just passing through, like me?"

Mys'ketay wasn't surprised by the male's response. Although, she was somewhat envious of him due to his keen abilities in the hunting department. His body was very muscular and obviously well fed. She was positive her's was probably leaner that it should be, but what could she do? He did have a point though. Since coming to this land she had barely seen any prey, not that it really mattered though. Mys'ketay watched at the male stretched out his legs after moving a little distance away. His muscles were strong, which made her both worried and swoon a little.

Feeling more at ease Mys'ketay jumped down from the tree, making sure to keep some distance between herself and him. "I suppose I am just passing through." She said, unsure on how to respond. "I just recently ran away from my father who was less then kind. Or fatherly." Mys'ketay replied with sad eyes. "But I've been here a bit longer then most probably would have." She said, trying to get her point across that she had no idea what she was doing or where she would go next.

Daffyd realised he was about to be forced to listen to this female ramble on about her daddy-issues and came to the abrupt conclusion that he really didn't care, and that he was neither hungry enough nor horny enough to pretend to do so, just to get his way.

"Well, that sounds very nice," he said, completely tuning out whatever else she said after she mentioned her father. And if she said more, he didn't care to stay and hear it. "I hope you enjoy that."

"Best of luck to you," he called over his shoulder. There was more out there for him than this, and even if he was hungry she didn't seem like she would be much of a huntress either, and so for the time being she was useless to him, except as a sex object, which would obligate him to listen to her chatter, which he was certain would be mindless, like the drivel all females spouted.
