Ahem. Anyway, where to begin?



Introduction
A hollow is a large monster-like creature that prey on souls and beings with a higher spiritual pressure. Their face is covered with a white, skull-like mask that hides their true identity and a large hole can be found through their chest. Hollow's size and shape vary along with the appearance of their mask. They usually first attack the people they were close to while they were alive. To the right of this you can see an example of the appearance of a hollow. Ichigo's head is concealing the hole. >>

But Restricted-chan, isn't that Ichigo Kurosaki?

I said shut up Po-kun! I already said that and I wanted to show them an example of their size! Now, hollows can be destroyed by crushing their pale, crazy masks. Just slice through it with a zanpakuto or cause it to shatter and your hollow is eradicated. Just kidding. The hollow's soul will be sent to soul society if the crimes were only comitted as a hollow. If crimes were comitted when they were living then the soul is sent through the gates of hell. When destroyed by a Quincy the soul is forever gone. (Quincys will be discused in a new topic.)


Um... Restricted-chan...I was just wondering why hollows preyed on souls?

Because they are hungry!

Becoming a Hollow


There are two different ways in which a soul becomes a hollow. The first is when the Chain of Fate has been severed from the body and the soul is filled with negative energy. The second is when the soul is trapped in the world of the living because it is still attached to something from when it was alive.



Severed Chain of Fate

Having the Chain of Fate cut off and separating the soul from it's body does not guarantee that the soul will become a hollow. The soul must be filled with negative energy in order for the chain to erode.

*pauses for Po-kun to interrupt her*
Oh that's right... I ate him.

The process of the chain eroding, or encroachment, is very painful and once the chain has four loops left, the entire chain and the area of the chest that holds the chain is eaten at the same time. This is the hole in the chest that most hollows have. (Some hollow's holes are located in other areas, such as their stomach's) Once the chain and the majiger holding it are completely gone the soul turns into a hollow.

*Pauses again*
I miss Po-kun..






Trapped Soul

A soul that is trapped in the world of the living usually does not become a hollow until much later after dieing and is usually taken care of by shinigami's when they are found. These souls are usually bound by chains to a place that they believe is their territory.

These souls have a small hole already in their chest and if agitated too much, then the process of becoming a hollow quickens. When turning into hollows these souls are called demi-hollows. The soul becomes a full hollow when the opening in it's chest is fully opened.

Who would want to agitate the hole in their chest you ask? That is a very understandably sane question. Who the hell would purposefully speed up this process? Well characters on the opposing side have no need to do this, so that leaves only one answer... Crazy people that can actually see the souls and believe that they are doing good by shoving random staffs into the hole thinking it will exorcise the demon.

Well Mr.Demi-Hollow, I'm sure I'd have that look on my face as well if I were having a staff shoved through my chest.

Classifications

There are three main classifications of hollows:

Hollows - these are twice the size of humans and they are unlimited in numbers.
Huge Hollows - they are the size of a two-story building and are unlimited in numbers.
Menos Grande - their sizes and numbers vary depending on which classification they are.

Within the Menos Grande there are three more classifications:


Gillion

Gillions are the first and weakest classification of menos grande. They are at least six stories tall and are many in number. They all look the same and are referred to as the "foot soldiers". They are extremely slow and are not very smart. A captain can easily destroy one, but they are a challenge for a vice captain. It is very rare for a gillion to removes it's mask to become an arrancar.




Adjuchas

Adjuchas are the second classification and are stronger than the gillion. There are fewer adjuchas then there are of gillion, but they are smarter and quite a bit stronger than them. They are smaller than the gillion making them faster. They are often loners and usually command gillion during battle. They are strong enough to challenge a captain and are more likely to become arrancar, but they must continuously feed on higher hollows to keep this form.




Vasto Lorde

Vasto Lorde is the third classification and final evolutionary stage of a hollow. They are the strongest and most capable of the menos grande. They are about the same size as a human and are very rare. They are stronger than captains, but not much else is known about them.

It is Harribel, Po-kun. She is the only one recorded as being a Vasto Lorde before being recruited for the Espada.

What exactly is an "Espada" anyway?

We will go into that in a different topic Po-kun.

But...but... Restricted-chan... I want to know now...

Then there are hollows who have removed their mask called Arrancar and the Visored who have gained hollow powers, but we will go into that in a new topic.

Muhahahahaha... the power! The power!

Ummm... Restricted-chan are you okay?

Shut uppppp Po-kun! *flicks Po-kun with one finger sending him flying through the air* Muhahahaha!
Ahem! Some hollows have abilities that are unique to just them, while other abilities are more common among most to all of them.

We will start with the common abilities:


Garganta
A garganta is the act of opening the portal that hollows, arrancar, and a few other characters use to travel from Hueco Mundo to the word of the living and back. It appears in the sky as a giant tear.

So that's how they do it Restricted-chan...
Yes Po-kun... that's how.




Regeneration

This ability ranges from low level hollows to high level arrancars and some visored. It allows them to regenerate any damage done to them except for the brain (like a zombie-ish OH NOZ!). The only time it cannot be regenerated is if the damage is done continuously or if the body is too damaged.




Burning Touch
Sometimes when a hollow touches a human it's reiatsu is emitted into them cause a burn-like bruise. It is very painful, but can heal over time.

Is that Sado-kun?
Yes, yes, yes.



Soul Separation
Supposedly all hollows can use this ability, but it has only been seen a few times. This is when a hollow forcibly removes the soul of a living person. The Chain of Fate is still attached so the person can still be brought back to life until the chain is severed.

Is that Orihime-chan?! Yes it is Po-kun.



Cero

Menos are the only hollow level that can use cero, but arrancar and visored can use it too. There are also different kinds of cero, but for this topic we will only be discussing the standard cero since that is the only one Menos can perform. A cero is a collection of concentrated spirit energy that is released in a wide laser-like fashion. Seeing as how only menos and up can use it, it is very powerful. The color from a Menos cero is red and is blasted from its mouth.



Negación

Negación is a field that can be used by the gillion menos to rescue other hollows. Once inside the field nothing can touch them in any way. This means that they cannot be attacked or pulled out of the field. It can only be used outside of Heuco Mundo.

Nothing can touch them Restricted-chan...That seems a little unlik.. NOTHING CAN TOUCH THEM!

These abilities range from crazy spit to insane manipulations and possessions of anything.

These are abilities found in individual hollows:


Acid Spit

Wah! It's acid and it comes out of his mouth! This is Acidwire's ability. Being acid, it burns!

*Pew pew pew, shoots acid at Po-kun*
AH!!!! Restricted-chan, you are so mean!!!!!!!





Adhesive Spit

Demi-hollow has this ability. He shoots glue-like spit and Ichigo's hands get stuck to his zanpakuto. The spit works on any surface and is pretty strong.
*Pew pew pew, attempts to shoot glue at Restricted-chan* *Glares at Po-kun* ... *Glue doesn't come out*




Small Manipulations

Those little things are about the size of a human hand. Shrieker can manipulate them to attack and can make them explode by sending a frequency through his tongue.






Flight

Some hollows can actually fly. *Woosh* Shrieker and Numb Chandelier have been seen with the ability to fly.
