It was reported Sunday that Rey Mysterio is working through an injury to his rotator cuff. He suffered the injury while working the SmackDown brand's most recent tour overseas. Doctors advised him not to fly due to an inner ear infection he was suffering from at the time but company officials asked him to work the tour anyway, assuring him that wouldn't have to work any matches. However, he was asked to wrestle while on tour, and complied, only to suffer an injury to his rotator cuff. There was much acrimony over the circumstances that led to the injury, to the point that creative had no ideas for him when his feud with Alberto Del Rio conclude.

Company officials tried make things up to Mysterio by allowing him to handpick his next opponent, which turned out to be "Dashing" Cody Rhodes. Current plans call for the storyline to continue through WrestleMania, with a likely encounter between the two.

Due to the injury, officials are limiting his in-ring work at television and pay-per-view events, as well as house shows. He's contained in tag matches when he does work non-televised events. Mysterio is said to be hopeful that he can avoid surgery through rehabilitation.

Well just the fact someone with Mysterio's notoriety and reputation inside WWE decides to work with Rhodes, it can only be good for Rhodes in the future. I think we don't realize that in all this, he is HANDPICKED by Rey. He could've choose to face Taker at 'Mania or just make the jump against the Corre, but he picked Cody Rhodes to work with. And at the same time, just the fact it was decided by the wrestler can mean that these two together will pull something really interesting in the future.

Rhodes better step it up on this one cuz it could be his big break if it goes well. Also speaks very highly of Rey to pick young talent to help push rather than a superstar thats already made a name for themselves

Well he's retiring like next year so it makes sense for him to push a younger guy.

I agree. I still dont get why they didn do that with HBK instead of rehashing the Taker match. Its all $$$ in their eyes

The group I normally watch with and I have noticed something on this subject. At this point there are only about 3 wrestlers in the WWE that are of HBK's era/style. Taker, Big Show, and Triple H. They're trained in the flair style of ring entertainment where as everyone else who's now in the company is into a different style of in ring performance. That fact may have been a leading reason for why they just had him go against Taker instead of having him train a younger guy, no one wanted to learn his stuff.

Don't forget...

Chavo Guerrero debuted in 1994
Edge debuted in 1993
Kane debuted in 1993
Christian debuted in 1995
William Regal debuted in 1983.
Rey Mysterio debuted in 1989

Compared to...

Triple H debuted in 1992
The Undertaker debuted in1984
The Big Show debuted in 1994

There are plenty of people from how you put it HBK's era/style of wrestling. Keep in mind HBK debuted in 1984, Regal has been wrestling a year longer, and still is.

You're really only looking at the years. All the people you listed in the top half excluding Kane use a completely different type of in ring skill set and rarely turned to the bottom half for tips, instead they went to high impact/ technical guys like Eddie G., Benoit, Hart, and Malenko.

LOL, now that's funny. So your gonna tell me Big Show and Shawn Michaels have the same style? Now that's laughable.

Obviously Big show isn't known for saults and flying through the air, however, when it comes to what their focus is in that ring when they perform, absolutely. They're focus is on that crowd and putting on a great spectacle, they are not trying to be athletes, they're being entertainers which is something that's been lost on alot of wrestlers.

So what your telling me is all those that I have mentioned are not trying to entertain the crowd, but rather looking to show off they're athletic prowess? The only person I could see that from is Regal.

Kane is not really an athlete, but more of an entertainer.
Chavo... Boy is more entertaining then athletic, yes he's athletic but he tries to put on a show more so then impress with athletics. That would be someone like Shelton Benjamin, or Elijah Burke.
Edge, entertainer...
Christian, refer to Edge.
Rey Mysterio I shouldn't have to explain.
Regal is the only one that is more an athlete then an entertainer. But to me he is still rather entertaining.

So like I said, there are plenty of people that look to entertain the crowd, like Shawn did.
