Sonnet had paced for most of the rest of the day, and after a somewhat cold wash he had decided that delaying any longer was foolish, he was going to ask Maion. Taking flight before he changed his mind or nerves overcame him he flew to Chandras herd lands, looking round for the large black angeni stallion, starting over to him when he spotted him down by the lake.

Maion was enjoying some 'chill out' time, everything had changed so much in such a short period of time. Skinwalkers had attacked, two mares had fallen pregnant.... surely nothing else could surprise him now? Taking a sip of water her looked at the reflection of the evening sky in the lakes glossy surface. It looked stunning, swirling black and white clouds... a storm? They were broken up by the pinks and purples of the setting sun that would soon give way to a starry sky and the moon. Night time had always been his faviourite, his domain.... he had so many special memories that had happened at night, finding and dancing with his mate, meeting his children for the first time..... yes, Maion found the night calming.

A noise to his left caught his attention and he turned towards it, expecting it to be one of his protectors asking for advice or details of their new schedule -things had been altered to accomidate the protection of the pregnant mares- but what he found surprised him. Sonnet, his youngest daughters friend. Smiling he bowed his head softly to the boy. "Evening Sonnet." Maion didn't know what the young boy wanted with him, knowing that he usually avoided Maion.... especially if Chandra wasn't with him, and right now he couldn't see his daughter which lead Maion to the assumption that Sonnet was looking for her. "I believe Chandra is with Drashi and Renesme."

Swallowing he wasn't going to chicken out, his slightly nervous expression becoming determind. "I actually wanted to talk with you Maion, if you have the time please." Not often did Sonnet look so serious so it must be something important. Though he had been greeted with a smile that was probably going to be replaced with anger. Stopping near Maion, an easy talking distance but not so close as his family would get. In the end Maion still made him nervous and intimidated him, but he was grown now, still young yes but grown, and while he respected the black stallion greatly he wasn't going to be a fearful foal any more.

Maion raised an eyebrow at that, what was Sonnet wanting this time? Maion could still recall teaching the boy and his daughter to fly, not an easy feat since both of them seemed to be anything but natural fliers, but now they were both masters of it -and that always made Maion smile with pride. Sure enough the two foals were grown now, but Maion didn't completely accept that..... to do so would be to accept that his little girl was growing up without him. Too fast. Too soon.

Curious Maion finally spoke, "Then speak boy. What can I help you with?" Part of Maion must have suspected because his heart started to race, but his mind was deluding him making possibilities such as requests for combat training, or joining the herd..... or anything else. Patiently he waited for the boy to reply.

Squairing his shoulders he met Maions gaze, not something he usually did, though he had never been intentionally rude to the older stallion it was clear that Sonnet was intimidated by the bigger stallion. However he was full grown now and was no longer so much smaller. Though even now he was scared, but he wouldn't run away. "I have come to ask your blessing to court Chandra. I love her..." The latter spoken more quietly, tenderly, he did love her. Still looking at Maion not having lept into asking to be allowed to have her as his mate, he would do that later when he was sure both he and Chan wanted that, but that would be something they could talk about when they were a little older.

Maion was..... stunned.

For a moment the older stallion simply stared at Sonnet, wondering what he had done wrong to deserve all these 'surprises' lately. "You want to court Chandra?" He gulped but somehow managed to squeeze out the words. "How does she feel about this?"

Part of Maion had to admit that he was indeed very flattered that Sonnet had asked for his permission, a traditional method that had often left him sounding more and more like an old man with each passing day, after all he was sure that Io was secretely mated but had not shared the news with the herd. Yet here he was, being asked for permission...... every instinct in him wanted to roar 'NO!' but he held back, he had watched Chandra and Sonnet grow up, knew that the boy always sought his daughters company and always seemed to make her smile. He just needed a moment.... a moment..... Maion had no idea what expersion his face bore, surprise, anger, frustration, shock, longing..... a combination of them all perhaps?

Sonnet took a deep breath, he was still in one piece, and Maion didn't seem to be freaking out. Still looking at him he nodded to the first question, and taking a moment to think of the best way to phrase the answer to the other. Deciding to be honest but cusion it as best he could. "She said she loves me too...." Lowering his eyes after he said that. "I know that we are young still, And I dont want to rush into anything, especially if its not what Chan wants..." Not sure how to express the rest, he wanted to make her happy, he wanted to build a life with her, he woulg join the herd, she would always be here where Maion could see she was happy... So many things he wanted to say but he didn't think this was the right time.

Maion gasped, Chandra loved him? Loved Sonnet? How had his missed that? His eyes went wide with acusation, perhaps there was another reason for this sudden declaration? Had this boy.... had he.... AGH! His mind refused to even think about it more, refused to accept what was happening. He turned away from Sonnet and to the lake, raising a single hoof up before bring it down to break the overwise calm surface. He was...... ??? He didn't know. This was happening too fast, everything seemed to be happening too quickly. Chandra was his little girl, his youngest, she needed her father, needed him to protect her.... not purple angenis by the name of Sonnet.

He growled in frustration and repeated the action with his hoof, sending a small tidal wave crashing into the bank. If he was honest he hadn't really heard much after 'she said she loves me too.....' his mind had broken then, unable to process more. "She's too young." He said, his voice no more than a whisper and directed more to himself than to the boy.

Yet Maion couldn't deny it.... Chandra did seem happy with Sonnet, and Maion wasn't foolish enough to believe he would live forever. Perhaps this boy would have a use to him after all. Returning his gaze to the boy he narrowed his eyes. "If you hurt her, make her cry or upset her in any way...." He paused, letting those words sink in. "Then I will kill you. Do you understand?"

Sonnet looked up having expected much worse after hearing the growl and water splashing, meeting Maion's gaze his own so sincear that there was no doubt he was speaking from the heart. "I'd let you..." Sonnet had no desire to die but then Chandra was a big part of his reason to live and if he had destroyed that with his own stupidity then he had no right to a pulse.

Satisfied Maion nodded, although slightly reluctantly. "Then yes, you have my permission to court my daughter." And in that moment Maion felt...... old.

Sonnet looked relieved that he had gotten away without having his hide kicked a new shade of purple. "Thank you." Actually worried that he might have broken Maion by asking this, but thinking it was probably better not to press him any more.

Maion couldn't bring himself to say any more, he simply nodded and turned to the lake once, dismissing Sonnet. He could only imagine what the young colt was thing, could only imagine that he would run off to find Chandra and tell her the 'good' news. Maion almost cringed. Yet at the same time, part of him wanted smile...... for his daughter had found love.
