"Rrrrr, got ya!"

The small bundle of gray and green pounced forward with determination blazing in her eyes, and tiny claws extended out. Crashing from her perch on the boulder to the solid dirt below, the cub named Nixoth grinned as her paws made contact with her target. Clasping both paws together, she quirked a brow as she stared down, the scaly tail caught in her grasp wiggling desperately. It had been a trick hunt, but at last the lizard was hers! Finally, she could eat and silence that annoying growling sound from her core. As she shuffled down to sit flat on the ground, the little lion flicked her ears and glanced around cautiously. Hn...should she really eat out here, in the wide open? Father had never recommended it, and now that she was away from the pride, her innate senses were tingling. Must hide...must take safe cover.

Pouting as she'd have to ignore her hunger for a moment longer, Nix peeked at the prize in her paws. Inside, the lizard stared back at her, eyes big and bright as the small creature breathed violently. It almost made the girl feel hesitate, to chomp on something that was alert and aware enough to peer back at his predator. But the lioness regretted her hesitation the moment it turned on her, as the lizard took the chance to dart from her loose paws. Blinking as her mind processed the rapid movement, Nix growled a profanity as she stood and charged after the reptile.

"Why you little....!" D<

Tendaji picked his way through the grasslands, his paws taking him no where in particular. He'd been roaming the world for as long as he could remember, settling with a pride or two in his long lifetime and offering his services to those that needed it. During his youth he had desired nothing more than a little bit of power, to rise to the top, to be the best of the best. Of course, his lifestyle could have been considered cruel, evil, shady - Tendaji had always lived in a life of greys. Right and wrong weren't always so clear, and some of the things he did looked evil but deep down they were for the best.

Such was the life of a mercenary turned spymaster.

The pink eyed lion had achieved a quiet bit of fame during the height of his chosen profession. He'd been the right paw of many a leader in many a pride and had given his loyalty to those kings and queens willingly. He had secured information, had killed off the enemies of his lords, and had been content with his lot. He needed no mate, needed nothing more than the satisfaction of his leaders. But that had been long ago. Times had change and while the lion was still a worthy adversary, he had watched his most beloved pride fail due to corruption of the youth. So he had left, and had made himself a mercenary open to hire once more.

Today was just another day. Picking his way through the grasses, he had been aware of the grey cub, but only just. She was fairly easy to spot amidst all the paler colors of the savanna, the dry and dead grasses, and wasn't exactly a pro when it came to hiding. Or hunting, for that matter. He had paused in his walk, watching as she struggled with some sort of small critter. He couldn't help but smile as whatever it was she had caught managed to wriggle free. Like a grey bolt, she darted after the creature, making a bee line straight for him!

"They're might tricky things, aren't they?" He mused aloud, oping to catch the cubs attention. Part of Tendaji knew that where cubs played, often times a mother or father weren't far off. Of course in her case, he could clearly see there were none around. It was just the two of them.

Perhaps her family was out hunting? He'd wait and see how she responded to his immediate presence. Hopefully she wouldn't flee too far away. He himself needed to do some hunting soon, but the middle of the day wasn't exactly the best time. He'd hunt once the sun started setting, and his green coat would be better camouflaged by shadow.

Nix perked up with alert eyes and ears above the grass (just barely), her expression crude and her tail like a short flag in the air. Was someone spying on her? Or better yet, were they planning to steal her game? How dare they! Furrowing her gem-like eyes, the young lion just noticed the location of the stranger, him being a nearly perfect blend of the terrain. Then her ears pinned back and she turned sharply, seeing and hearing the rattling of grass as her meal scampered away with no delay.

Scowling louding, Nix stomped and pawed at the earth below her paws. And since she was so small, her tantrum merely looked and sounded like a meerkat chattering through the grass. Needing a target for her fit, the cub unwisely marched up to the stranger, any logic of survival blinded by her need for revenge.

"Hey you! Just who do you think you are? Tricky or not, I could'a had him if you didn't butt in, old man!" >c She stopped short of three feet from him, her tail flare and daring him to retort her authority.

Tendaji watched as the little female suddenly turned in to something 'fierce'. He watched silently as she threw a tantrum in the grass, and felt his mouth twitch in to a bit of a smile. But no, that wouldn't do. Heaven forbid she catch him smiling at her fit, and she'd likely hit the roof. A small glance around and once again, he confirmed there were no other lions or lionesses keeping an eye on the young cub. Either she was alone or she had roamed far from her family. . .or her family had roamed far from her!

Still, the magenta eyed male watched as the young one stomped forward in her fit, and suddenly threw her venom at him. That did it. He couldn't help it. It was all over now for little Miss Nixoth. She had pushed all the buttons and there was no stopping what was about to come.

Tendaji couldn't help but laugh. He laughed, and laughed, and laughed at the poor cub who was absolutely aggravated at him. Of course, he knew that this would likely only spurn her wrath even more, but it just couldn't be helped. It was one thing to see her throw a fit in the grass, but to have her actually stomp up to him like she was a threat. . . oh. It was just too much for the man.

"I'm sorry," he finally managed, his magenta eyes bright. Dipping his head apologetically, he added, "Perhaps I should be asking who you think you are, speaking to such an old man in such a way?" He grinned, not at all upset or displeased by her scowling face. "Though I must apologize. I hadn't meant for you to lose your kill over my words." Even though it was quite likely she would have lost it anyway. Her hunting techniques were atrocious but she was very young. It was forgivable.

"I'm Tendaji and I had only caught the tail end of your hunt."

Too busy spewing her rampage against the older male, the young Nixoth hardly bothered trying to read his facial reactions. She did not care what the other had to think of her, being that she never was the type to be demure or bashful. She spoke her mind in an unending tirade, full of words with little relevance and sentences that made no sense. But to her, they were all part of a voice to be heard, allowing her to dominate the one-sided conversation.

But even a egotistic youth could take pause long enough to hear insult pounding on their ears. Giving a blink (and licking her chapped mouth), Nix looked up with peeved eyes at the other lion. Just what did he find sooo hysterical? Clenching together her small teeth, Nix was torn between being embarrassed and furious, so much so that she held her ground with a heated tremble. And his apology only earned him a scoff in return.

"So you won't even answer my question first? That's completely not fair, old man." The girl flicked her tail about her ankles, as if to wave off his useless question. Then she placed a dramatic frown on her face as she look skyward, pretending to sniffle and hold back tears. "And what does it matter know who I am? I'll likely starve within hours thanks to somebody I won't mention." Cough.

So, Tendaji was this guy's name, eh?
