Mirie was taking a well deserved break. He was laying next to his kill. There was enough for him to last for at least a week. It was nice finally finding some prey. This last month had been pretty rough on him. It was like there was some sorta curse on him. In his opinion he was a pretty good hunter, perhaps not the best, but good enough to track his prey and take it down. This month almost all his prey had escaped him, but that was behind him now. He shouldn't be thinking of the past, but enjoying his wonderful meal! Before eating he thanked the gods for letting him catch his dinner.Lurking silently in a bush, two purple eyes watched Mirie and his catch.
Leenah-Sesi was in fact horrible at camouflage. Her purple fur stood out against the green bush she was hiding in. If the wild dog she was watching was more aware of his surroundings, perhaps he would have noticed the cheetah that was staring at him. She grinned playfully at the dog. He was purple, she was purple, perhaps he was the one! As quietly as she could, which was infect very loud, she snuck out of her hiding spot.
Mirie had just took a bit out of his meal when he heard something. He knew it was too good to be true. Someone was going to try and fight him for his meal. Quickly he stood up and prepared to protect his meal. There stood a cheetah, grinning like a kid. "If you want my food you're going to have to fight me for it!" he growled at her. The cheetah just giggled and walked toward him. Mirie was a little shorter than she was. "Back off cheetah or I will hurt you."
Leenah-Sesi stopped and giggled again. "Aw your fur is really pretty. It looks just like mine." She stated as she laid down. "Do you think by chance you could be my brother or maybe half-brother? When I was little I was separated from my other siblings and I am trying to find them."
'What? This cheetah thinks that I am here brother? What kind of joke is this.' Mirie bared his teeth at her. "Look I am not playing games with you! This is my meal that I had to track and hunt. You can not have it so go find your own prey" He barked at her angrily. The cheetah's ear tilted back and her grin turned into a frown. For a moment Mirie felt sorry for her, but then he told himself that this was probably part of her act.
"Alright I'll just go than." She muttered, looking at him with sad eyes. She got up and went away from him. Her gut told her that she should stay. There was something about the wild dog that made her feel like he was part of her lost family. Though she had never heard of a wild dog being part of a cheetah, she guessed that perhaps he was her half sibling. Later, she would go try and talk to him again, maybe than he'll listen to her. 'Now time to hunt. I'm a bit hungary.'
Mirie went back to eating his dinner in peace. He kept an eye out for the cheetah, in case she decided to return. After he was full he decided that he would start work on a den for himself. As he was working he heard a twig break. 'Oh great that cheetah is back.' He got out of the den he was digging and went to yell at the cheetah, except the cheetah wasn't there. In fact it was three other wild dogs, all with crooked grins on their faces.
"Aw brotha! Good to finally find another one of once and even one who is so eager to share his prey!" One of the wild dogs said. Mirie assumed this was the leader of the three. He seemed to have gone through his share of battles, having scars coving his body. The other two dogs laughed at their leader. "We've gone an entire day with out eating and we are sure starving brotha!"
"I am not going to share. This is my meal. Go find your own." Mirie said, getting ready to defend his food. The other wild dogs laughed at him.
"We're family brotha! Family shares! We don't want our little brother to get hurt so why don't ya let us eat enough to fill us up and we'll be out of your way." The leader said. He stepped closer to Mirie and his food.
"I am not going to let you eat my food. I need this to survive."
"Fine brotha, we'll try not to hurt you to much."
Leenah-Sesi had just caught herself a gazelle and was very proud of herself. She thought that perhaps she would bring it to her wild dog brother so he would know that she wasn't interested in stealing his food. As she got closer to where the dog had been, she heard voices getting louder and louder. Than she heard her wild dog brother bark out in pain. Dropping her catch, she bolted toward the bark. The wild dog was being attacked by three other dogs.
Enraged that someone would dare attack her family she jumped at one of the dogs and swiped her paw against his face. Caught by surprise, the three wild dogs decided to get out of there before she attacked them again.
"Are you okay brother?" She asked. He was lying on the ground, cleaning his wounds. On his body were several bite marks.
"Please don't call me brother. I am sick of hearing that word today." Mirie muttered. As grateful as he was to the cheetah for saving him, he still didn't trust her. "I am fine. I should heal soon enough. I suggest you go somewhere else incase those dogs come back. You don't want them to hurt you."
"I'll stay with you. That way I can protect you." Leenah said with a grin. Her new found brother was so sweet, caring about what happens to her. "Oh, I'll be right back! I caught some food for us."
Mirie watched the silly cheetah leave and comeback with a gazelle. He couldn't help but smile. She wasn't after his food after all. Perhaps it would be okay for him to play big brother to the cheetah girl, at least for a little while. "I'm Mirie by the way."
"My name is Leenah-Sesi, but you can call me Lee." Leenah-Sesi said. She noticed his den he had started to dig out. Carefully, she started to dig it out to make it bigger. "There! I think that should be good for now. Why don't you sleep and I will stay guard to make sure no one attacks us?"
Mirie nodded. He hated making her do all the work, however he knew he was too tired and weak to do much good. He went and curled up in the den that he and Lee made. Before closing his eyes he smiled at Lee. "Good night little sister."
