Mchezaji looked up at the morning sun with a glorious smile that spread across the grasslands. His heart sang with the birds in the trees as his paws followed the tracks the antelope left for him. Today was as beautiful as a beautiful could be, and with every step, he was coming closer to acheiving his goals.
All he could hope is that his rabbit friend stays back in their den by the river. She was tired from their latest 'adventure', and after some wheedling on his part, was finally taking a rest. Which was all the more reason to celebrate!
Why, he could just burst out with song, he was so happy! And in fact, he did just that.

Ardhira'i stared pensively at the yellow flower before her, her face a picture of concentration. Her mother had always encouraged her to see the beauty in flowers, and, in true spirit of her father, Ardhira'i had set it upon herself to catalogue all of the flowers she stumbled upon. She didn't know their names, but she knew what they looked like, smelt like and - though she didn't do it often any more, since she found one foul tasting one - she knew what some tasted like.
The yellow flower before her was the foul one. The flower and the stem were weirdly sour and she had no desire to re-taste it to make sure. She pushed herself upright, stretching leisurely and glancing around to try to find another flower to catalogue.
It was the perfect day for cataloguing flowers. The sun was bright and it was nice and warm and...was that singing she heard?
Distracted from her former goal of flowers, the juvenile scanned the area, eyes wide and searching for that elusive singing.

Mchezaji pounced atop a low branch of a great tree that overlooked a glen of yellow flowers. His song was ever present, possessing him from the inner depths of his soul and only finding peace by spilling forth from his lips. It was so wonderful to him, being able to sing and dance so freely. What better way was there to spend his days?
He hopped down amidst the flowers, sashaying gracefully in-between them when he saw a little leopard cub. Instantly the remainder of his song turned to her, and when he finished, the lithe leopard smiled.

Ardhira'i watched as the male danced, moving between the flowers and singing. So he was the source of the noise. How odd. She wondered if all male leopards sung. She'd only ever seen her father as an example of what male leopards were and acted like, but this one acted nothing like her father.
How oddly fascinating.
When he finished singing, her head was tilted to the side and she was watching him with wide eyes. "Why did you sing?" She blurted out, the question honestly curious.

Mchezaji grinned from ear to ear, every inch the charming entertainer. He'd always found cubs endearing, even the older ones, because of their endless curiosity. "Why not? When you feel like doing something, you do it, yes?"
Now, the question was, what was she doing out here by herself? The creamy leopard took a casual glance around, expecting to see the wary gaze of a parent, and was thoroughly disappointed. Was she alone? "Surely your parents encourage that in beauty such as you~"

Ardhira'i cast him a confused look. "No," she disagreed with his statement. "When I feel like doing something, I think it over and make sure it's sensible, then I do it," she told him, nodding firmly. She was not impulsive. Well, not really. Okay, sometimes, but she tried hard to be logical like her father was.
Her confused look only continued to grow and she tilted her head at him. "Mama wants me to be happy, and so does Daddy, but they don't want me doing crazy nonsensical things and getting hurt," she admitted, glancing back over her shoulder as if she could spot her parents, but was in no such luck, as her family was out of sight - though she could follow her path back to find the again.

"No?" Mchezaji curled up his nose, giving her a look of pure horror. "Dear one, that is no way to live at all. Spontaneous behavior is the spice of life. If you feel like doing something, do it!" Whether on a whim or to prove his point, the agile leopard pounced over his younger companion, balancing only on his forepaws. He delicately turned his body around to look at her, a smile plastered on his face as he lowered himself back down.
"Loosen up, and live, kitten. Just because it looks crazy and nonsensical, that doesn't mean it really is. Who knows? It could just be fun. And if you over-think it...well, then it isn't really fun anymore, is it?"

The look of horror on his face made her feel as if she'd done something wrong. Her ears twitched downward, unconsciously looking apologetic, even as she listened to his words. She gasped, dropping into a crouch as he pounced, staring with wide eyes at his movements. "Why'd you do that?" She demanded, fascinated. What had made him do that? Did he have a plan in mind?
"Thinking is fun though," she protested, cautiously raising herself back up and tilting her jaw up. "Nonsensical stuff looks so...confusing and random and...unpredictable." She liked being able to predict things. It made her feel safe.

"Thinking about fun things is fun, but over analyzing any given situation is a hassle." He couldn't understand this cub at all. What made her think like that? Was she thinking the same thing about him? He would bet she was!
"Nonsensical is such a..." he waved his paw in the air, at a loss for words. "It's just...wrong. Carefree is how I would describe it. It's neither confusing nor random, it's just...life. You can't predict everything."

He was just...so weird, she thought, staring at him as if he had suddenly spouted wings. Actually, she'd probably find him more interesting if he had sprouted wings. At the moment he was just odd, not fascinating.
She frowned as he corrected her words. Nonsensical was just as good as carefree! She sulked a little, but she puffed up at his last statement. "Never say 'can't'!" She announced firmly. "I can do anything, my mother told me so!" She resisted the urge to stick her tongue out at him.
She huffed, and shifted on her feet, pausing when something caught her eye. Oooh, a bug. She stared at the little bug by her paws, almost forgetting about him. It was so cute, she realised, reaching out a paw slowly to poke it. It tipped over onto it's back - immediately she looked horrified at what she'd done, and tried to assist it to turn back over, poking it again with her paw.

What was wrong with her? Had she been dropped on her head one to many times, or was it a birth defect? For such a sweet cub, she was so increidibly dense! "I'm sure she didn't mean this!" Mchezaji frowned. "You can do anything you want to do because....because....argh!" He shook his head. This was getting him no where.
While he battled with what to say to change her mind, Mchezaji became aware that he had been replaced. By a bug, of all things. A bug! Determined to gain her favor once more, the limber leopard gently scoop the bug up in his paw, tilting his digits just so to tip it right over.

Ardhira'i ignored whatever it was he was rambling about – it really wasn't making sense anymore. See? That's what happened when you didn't think! She thought to herself. You started acting crazy.
She startled a little when his paw came down and scooped up the back, her eyes staying fixed on the bug as he gently tipped it back over. “Ohh,” she gasped, grinning up at him approvingly. “I didn't even think of that! Very clever.” Why hadn't she thought of that? It was only logical? Ugh. She blamed the strange male for distracting her.
The bug, obviously displeased with being tipped over and righted by strange paws, had began to scurry off quickly. “Wait! Come back!” she told the bug, bouncing a step or two after it but not attempting to grab it – she'd hate to hurt it! “Please stop!” She tried to get the bug to stop by being polite – being polite was always appropriate in situations, even when talking to bugs.

Mchezaji could only roll his eyes. She only seemed to notice him when he was particularly clever, which wasn't what he'd expected from a cub. They were supposed to be innocent, loving, free....not her.
Seeing her in distress, however...that wasn't something he could let slid. While she dealt with the bug, he padded down a ways, scrambled around and came back with a patch of dried hide and a vine. Without saying anything, he scooped the bug ontop of the hide, pulled up the edges, and wrapped them up in the vine. "There. He'll be around so long as you want him too. Just remember to feed him and let him out for fresh air. Otherwise, he'll die."

Her eyes went wide as he scooped up the bug, making a crafty cage to hold him while she wanted him around. She beamed at the strange male. "Thank you!" She said brightly, scooping up the hide carrier and cuddling it to her chest.
Ha! Now the bug was hers. "What secrets do you hold, little bug?" She mused, smiling down at her new experiment. She would have to remember this form of capturing as well...it could prove very useful.
Oh! She could capture scorpions with this method! Her eyes lit up even further, and she bounced on her paws eagerly.

Mchezaji smiled and reached over to ruffle the fur ontop of her head affectionately. She really was an adorable kid, when she was smiling and not picking at him. There was just something about her that made him smile. "You're welcome. Just don't forget what I said about him." After all, he was still worried that she would purposely wait for him to die so that she could look at the poor things insides.
Now that he was sure she was properly taken care of, and with her family not too far away, he started to leave. After all, she wouldn't have much use for him now that she had a new toy, and he had places to be.
With one last look over his shoulder, Mchezaji smiled and started to hum a little tune under his breath as he walked away.
