The female wondered around the prides' borders for a brief time this morning. She still enjoyed exploring and sometimes a little solitude was a mystical and majestic thing. The more she walked the less the voice of her stomach nawed inside of her. Kimya was always a nice girl, but she always had a tomboy nature. She was bigger thn the girl in the pride lands and she prefered to get dirty. She was carfree and she enjoyed her position in the pride, it brought her a sense of belonging. However, in her new life she was happy and she knew that she would always be loved in this pride... However she would always feel a bit different; she was a female guard. Most of the other lioness' were gathers; somewher deep inside it always made Kimya feel like an outsider...

But she still felt alone and it was something only time could heal.... well thats what she hoped...

Fon Youn wasn't really thrilled with his assignment for the day. He'd been doing his best for the past several days to try to get himself reassigned, since he'd known his schedule in advance, but his mentor had been firm. If he wasn't preparing to be of assistance in a summoning, Fon Youn had to help out around the pride, and he ought to put his paws to many different tasks, which included guard duty sometimes.

Guard duty was even worse than gathering, in the adolescent's point of view. At least with gathering a person got to venture outside the pride and see new and interesting things. Guard duty kept a person within the boundaries of the pride and in more or less on place, unless it was a patrolling sort of duty, which involved lots of pointless, circuitous walking. Fon Youn didn't enjoy that.

Nevertheless, all his wheedling, whining, and pleading had proved insufficient to get him out of the task, and so he had only one recourse left to him: he could try to annoy the people he was assigned to work with to the point where they told him to get lost and go away. It wasn't an impossible task. He had no doubt about his abilities to do it, but just the same, when he drew within sight of where he was supposed to meet the other guards he paused.

There was a lioness there, and he didn't know her name, but he did know she was a member of the pride. He wondered what she was doing there, and called out to her, "Good morning."

Kimya was on her usual patrol when the voice of a pride member caused her to lose her focus. The chocolate brown female turned to see the adolescent male approaching.

Kimya was still new to the pride and has yet to learn many faces, the only face she really knew were those of her fellow guards; other than that she didn’t really know anyone and the approaching male was defiantly a new face.

“Good Morning.” The Female spoke with an elegant tone. It often caught others of guard, she was bigger and stronger then the average female and often accused of being a ‘tom boy’ so others often assumed her to have a masculine tone but no… it was very elegant and gentle. "How can I help you this morning?" She gave a gentle smile toward the adolescent.

As a poupe he had gotten to watch as lions were possessed by loa and spoke in other voices, so the contrast between Kimya's appearance and her voice was really not an issue for Fon Youn, thus he was less startled than pleased to hear the large lioness speaking in a cultured, feminine voice. A voice like that had to belong to someone intelligent enough to be won over by his myriad charms and razor-sharp wit. He was positive that he was both charming and witty, but sometimes the people surrounding him weren't intelligent enough to appreciate him. That this lioness was, presumably, able to do so, made him smile.

"Well, that does depend," he drawled.

The affectation struck many as humorous, but he determinedly stuck with it, convinced that it lent him an exotic air which would prove alluring to the ladies. So far he'd been doing a little better than average using it, so he considered it a change well worth the making. Sometimes he still slipped up and spoke in the manner of the pride, but by and large he was very good at maintaining his deliberate drawl.

"I'm supposed to be meeting with a guard. That's my assignment for the morning, since I'm not scheduled to work with any loa today." Just a casual mention that he got to work with loa. As if it was no big deal. "I don't suppose you've seen any around? Guards, that is."

Kimya stood tall as the adolescent spoke. This was because she had to keep an eye on the pride. She was still new to the pride and had something to prove to herself as well as the pride and the Mawi. She was still trying to understand the way of the pride. The brown lioness has yet to grasp the whole understanding of spirits and loa; but this was her pride now and she swore to protect it and all who reside in it.

She glanced down at the adolescent, he reminded her of her brother. It has been a long time since he passed… Kimya only has memories of him now. When she was young her and her brother were as thick as thieves. But there was only one problem… he was sick… Kimya always did everything to protect him but in the end it was never good enough. As a cub he was fine but as he grew he began to get worse until one day he fell asleep and never woke up. After that her parents never looked at her the same. Perhaps it was because they were the only two cubs her parents ever seemed to be able to conceive and the loss of their son was overbearing. Kimya always blamed herself for what happened… She never understood why it couldn’t have been her instead….

The males’ voice began to bring her back from her memory and she stared down at him. “I am a Guard, My name is Kimya'dhoruba. What is it I could help you with today?” Her tone was stiff and hard as if she didn’t want to talk to anyone.

"You're a guard?" Fon Youn asked, and then repeated with different emphasis, "You're a guard?"

He looked her up and down and for a moment it seemed like he would say something insulting or demeaning, but that really wasn't Fon Youn's style. He never said unkind things to females. Not even in the form of barbed compliments, since he didn't want to be known as an unpleasant person to be around. He wanted everyone to relax and enjoy his company.

"I don't think they were thinking aright when they made you a guard. Any intruder who comes to the pride undecided whether they'll try to get in or not, they'll take one look at you and say to themselves, 'Loa, the ladies here a pretty. I'm staying.' And then we'll have so many people coming in that we'll be overpopulated and the poor shrinekeeps will go absolutely batty with all the shrines and altars they'll have to tend to as people die."

He shook his head with mock sadness. "For the safety of all, I don't know how they could let you be a guard, Kimya'dhoruba. You could be the pride's downfall. Perhaps it's best that I was assigned to work with you this morning. If people see the pair of us, they'll say, 'Oh, that lioness is beautiful, but look at the handsome fellow with her. I'd never stand a chance. I should just move along.' Don't you think so?"

He shot her a quick, mischievous grin.

Kimya was not pleased with the young guard. She didn’t like the tone he spoke with her; she has heard it many times before. Just because she was a female doesn't mean she was any less helpful as one of the males. It was demeaning and inappropriate. Females and males were equal being and it hurt her bit to feel under appreciated by a male. She knew the elder males knew the equality of one another it was just the younger males who have yet to learn. The more he spoke the more frustrated she became. Just because she was a female guard did not mean she was incompetent! He actually said that she could be the downfall of the pride that struck a nerve with her.

Her expression and tone were stern, "Are you saying that because i am female i am not a strong as a male or as able to protect this pride." She was unamused at his smile. Inside she wanted to slap her paw across his face but she maintained her dignity. "I am just as good as a male at my duty and if you feel like under mining my position as a member and guard of this pride perhaps you should find another guard. I take this seriously and will not be flustered by words as ignorant as yours." She turned and began scanning the lands. She was not about to feel inferior to an arrogant adolescent.

If he wanted to get anywhere with her he would hasve to learn how to respect her; that was the bottom line.

Fon Youn didn't have much difficulty detecting that he'd somehow managed to irritate the lioness he'd been assigned to work with, but what he couldn't figure out, at least initially, was how he'd managed to do so. He'd been nothing but complimentary. Unless...

Ah. She'd managed not to hear the compliments, and managed to completely misinterpret everything he said so that it came out as if he was deriding her skills as a guard. As if he would would do something like that. Fon Youn knew himself to be an indifferent guard at best, and as such was extremely unlikely to pass judgment on anyone else's ability to do that particular job until he'd actually seen them do more poorly than he would do.

"Actually, I wasn't saying that at all," he said, trying to puzzle out how he could explain what he'd said without ruining his lovely turn of phrase or making it sound like he was calling her stupid as well as contradicting her. He was contradicting her, but more than that, he was correcting her, and he knew no one liked to be corrected.

"I was remarking that your beauty is more likely to draw people to the pride, which would make more work for us as guards." He didn't like to be that blunt, but some people needed it. Usually they were less intelligent sorts of people, but he supposed Kimya might be one such. He didn't mind people of lesser intelligence and slower wit, as long as they were pretty, but they took a different kind of handling.

Kimya stopped and looked at the male. Her expression was stern but also genlte. This adolecent just didnt get it. To kimya being a guard was an honor, a home, a place where she felt she belonged for once in her life. She was intrusted to protect the people of the pride from harm from others. Okay Kimya understood he was young but this was where she felt she finally fit in and now some young arrogant male was saying that it would be better if she wasnt a guard? She wasnt going to stand for this anymore.

"So let me get if i understand you; Your saying that because im a female guard its a bad thing because it will bring more people into the pride. Which in consequense will cause more work for us guards?" Kimya spoke calmly and in a manner of nobility, she wasnt going to let some adolescent get to her it was he who needed to learn when to hold his tongue.

"But all i hear is if im a guard it will cause more work for you, which tells me your just to lazy to be a guard. And perhaps if you feel that way beong a guard may not be whats best for you." She stood tall infont of the male with a stern expression, "Now do i have an understandning or not?"

Fon Youn marveled sometimes at how inexpressibly slow some people could be. Not merely physically, since he understood there was almost an art to making movements languid and luxurious and could appreciate that, but mentally. Some people were just incredibly slow thinkers. Though in this particular guard's case it might not be that she was a slow thinker so much as she simply refused to think. There was a difference between moving slowly and not moving at all, and Fon Youn was beginning to think she had made a conscious decision not to bestir her brains on his behalf. Which was really a shame, because he knew himself to be quite the wit.

"I really don't think we're going to achieve any sort of an accord or understanding here," he said.

She was talking in that tone, that lecturing tone which tended to make Fon Youn automatically tune out. Good manners might have prevented him from doing so if he was inclined to like the person speaking, but the longer he spent in Kimya's presence the less he was convinced she was actually someone worth listening to. She was a guard probably because her mind was not as finely shaped as her musculature, and while he was certainly willing to concede that she was attractive, he wouldn't want to get into any sort of long term relationship with her, or even hold a particularly long conversation with her, which this seemed rapidly to be turning into.

"Actually, I'm not a guard at all, and I have no intention of becoming one," he drawled, deliberately allowing his usual insouciance to infiltrate his bearing. He smiled very slowly, but also with condescension. "Part of the nice thing about being a poupe - I don't actually have to prowl around and devote myself to preventing people from crossing some imaginary line on the ground."

Kimya was a very understanding and tolerent person but for some reason this male reminded her if a son she never wanted. She wasn't a baby sitter and didn't understand why this male whom she didn't even know the name of. She introduced herself and found it rather rude how he didn't introduce himself. All she began to notice was he was distracting her from her duties. But then he began to say stuff she Actually agreed with.

"I have to agree we aren't getting anywhere" she said in arbitration.

At this point she was trying to get away. She wanted to get back to her guard duties. She was actually okay with the male hit then he just kept talking with an attitude like most young males. " Well noone is forcing you to stay here and frankly I must get back to my guard duties just because you do not take this seriously doesn't mean I'll let you distract me." Kimya was getting more arrgravated the longer she stayed and listened to te male. "So perhaps you should find another guard to assist you today, I apologize that I could not be of help." Kimya said very politely, well as polite as she could be before starting to walk her Imaginary line. She didn't care how the male felt about this just because he wasn't In favor if following an invisible line didn't mean she didn't enjoy it. This was where she felt se belonged a new place to call home a Real home

At last things were going his way. Fon Youn had been confident that if he kept trying he would make some headway with Kimya and get her to accept something he said. An irrepressible sort of lion, he wasn't bothered by the fact that the only thing she'd seemed to understand out of all the things he'd said had been a declaration that they didn't seem to be getting anywhere. He had already written her off as being simple-minded, which excused her lack of comprehension and prevented him from becoming truly annoyed or frustrated with her. Why blame a person for something that was beyond their control?

"If that's the way you feel about it, I think it would be best for me to bid you farewell," Fon Youn drawled.

He actually felt very accomplished as he nodded to her and turned to make his way back to the main area of the pride. He had managed to get off of guard duty, which was one of the most boring activities he could think of doing, and he had done it in such a way that no one could fault him for it. He could say, quite truthfully, that he had been nothing but complimentary, and that the guard he'd been assigned to work with and assist had sent him away. None of that was his fault or a reason to scold him. He always preferred his excuses to be true when he could manage it.
