Terry and Muriel, yay!
Why would they send this game to us and not the "sequel" to it? (VI) D:
Have fun breeding Heal Slimes with Trolls!
Too bad Muriel isn't a tank Super Star at the time to save herself, eh?

Spending five minutes and two posts talking to a fan of the original Monster series, she more than lit up the spark for me to begin to play this game. Upon spending even less time researching background in this game, I found out it's based on Terry and Muriel, two playable characters from Dragon Quest VI as children! I'll be sure to tell of my progress as this is a dark confession, but I've never played a Dragon Quest outside the main series, and I hope this goes well for me.

I hear talk there's also some tie-ins to the Edrick saga in there too, regarding the Dragonlord. I've never played the original monsters, but I have played Joker. Which was a very "meh" game all around. The other Monsters games look better, though. I know they're also making a sequel to Joker in the future.

I also heard you can breed an "Esturk", that excites me very much. Joker-wise, I saw it on sale in a bargain bin once for like $10 so I kind of assumed... although I would like to try it even if it is a lower tier game, I have this thing with low tier games you see (cough- FE11, FFII, SaGa series, Star Ocean 3, etc cough-)

Well, I hope you have some fun Hassan =D I'm a big fan of Joker myself actually. Lot of fun playing it, couldn't always find the monsters though...

It's been awhile since I last posted this, but an update: I beat it not too long ago actually (when I got to transferring my save files onto my laptop), my overall response to the first one was it was awesome, I love references more than I should! My favourite part was rescuing "Gwaelin" from the dragon, but being too young to carry her home. I think I will get started on the second one before long, and get Joker on my DS, I have a flash card, so there's not excuse not to.

I wish I could get my hands on the original DQ monsters. Maybe I can get it for cheap on E-Bay and play it on my GBA since my GBC is long out of commission.

Or, uh, emulate it. I guess.

Dragon Quest Monsters- was a blast. My brothers and I still own one of the original cartridges and played it to hell and back.

Dragon Quest Monsters II- We have the male version I believe- don't remember his name because I always named him Tony- anyways- also amazing, I like the key theory for monster worlds. It allowed you to find all kinds of monsters no matter what "door" was opened.

My brother put in over 200 hours in that game- then we moved onto Joker, which was actually quite good. Not as good as the old ones, but still good. To be honest, they should make a new one that goes back to it's roots, as well as allows you to create the main character- on top of that- bring back monster breeding- not this synthesis mumbo-jumbo.

Just as a curiosity, which one did you like the most, and why? The reason is, before long, I am going to try the second Monsters game, mainly because I managed to beat all the games I have from boredom from Winter Break, so I'm looking for another game to try. If the second one, what about the gameplay, as in does it play differently from the first and so on? I'll be sure to do a playthrough thread so I can record my opinions and ask from help every now and then from the pros who had the privilege to grow up with such great games. : P

Oooo- that's a toughie, because when I had finished number one and moved onto two I was extremely cheesed. "What the hell is this? Where are the warps? What happened to Terry, what the hell are these monsters, I'm apart of the other kingdom now, why isn't this in the game, what the-." Basically, I tore it apart mentally- but, as I kept on slowly playing, I found myself enjoying the story, the fact they used magic keys to open monster worlds, as well as the amount of new monsters in the game- the sheer amount is huge and amazing.

Keys- let me get into those more. In DQ Monsters you would use warps to travel to the worlds where monsters live- in DQ Monsters II the worlds were entered by a magical door, where using a different magic key would open different worlds. There were keys you naturally got because they advanced the plot, but- big but- there were lots of keys which were randomly generated with different keywords. They would open all kinds of doors with many different monsters to find- my brother put in over two-hundred hours in that cartridge- I didn't put in nearly as many, but I will say I enjoyed the second one better.

That is my personal opinion, I'm not sure if I really did much to answer the question, but the second I enjoyed more.
