 Shenu-Hotep was stretching his legs. He was stretching his legs because he couldn't nap like all the adults were doing at midday. The cub found himself quite bored. Someone should be awake and playing with him!
Briefly he had debated upon waking one of the nannies to get her to play games. On second thought, she'd probably just have ordered him to take nap. His fur along his shoulders stuck up at the thought. How dare she?! Then he calmed himself. No waking a nanny wasn't an option.
But what to do! Bright gold eyes scanned the area. There were pillars he could check behind for bugs or rats maybe. Give them a good scare and chase. Shenu trotted off toward the nearest one. They should fear him.

Amitab stretched and looked around. She had been disturbed from her nap and couldn't get back to sleep, so she decided that she would wander around instead. Maybe one of her brothers or sisters would be about, ready and willing to play. And if not, well, perhaps she could find something else to do.
It wasn't like her home was boring, after all!
Fortunately, it looked like she wouldn't have to look around too hard - there was one of her brothers already! Grinning to herself, Amitab carefully crept up behind Shenu-Hotep, and readied herself to pounce in three, two, one....
"Hello, brother!"

Shenu whipped around with a cubby hiss. Who would dare sneak up on him! Just in time he saw that it was one of his several sisters. He looked down his nose at her. "Amitab," he greeted her coolly. Clearly not approving of her actions entirely.
"Could you not sleep either?" He tilted his head as an idea popped into his head. Here was someone who would play with him. She couldn't tell him to take a nap either.
"I was just about to go scare rats that live behind the pillars. You could join me if you're not scared of them." He almost looked smug that he wasn't scared.

Amitab smiled at her brother, her eyes taking on a distant gaze for a moment as she thought about the offer. "Not really, I woke up too soon. And I would love to play with you, Brother! The rats won't know what to do," she said happily, her tail swishing back and forth in excitement. "It's much better than napping!"
Was she scared of the rats? Not in the least!

Shenu didn't exactly consider rat chasing play, but more a job. He kindly let his sister get away with it though. It was much better than napping right now. When he got bigger he knew that he, Shenu-Hotep, would be hunting down much bigger animals. It would near him much praise too.
"Well we'd better get started before they die of old age." With that the cub set to stalking around the columns. He listened and sniffed for rat signs.

Smiling a little at her brother's claim, Amitab shook her head and followed after him. "They won't die of old age while we're talking, brother," she said calmly, her own ears alert for the tell-tale skittering of the large rodents. After a moment of silence, she turned to her darker-furred sibling and smiled a little more, a mischievous sparkle shining in her eyes. "Want to see who can scare the most?"

Shenu gave a humph. What did girls know anyhow. He knew they wouldn't die, but what was the point in waiting? They'd all run away if they just kept chattering.
"What good does scaring them do? They'll just come back." His nose turned toward his sister. "You ain't too scared to kill 'em are you?" His ear twitched in contempt if she said she was.

Amitab grumbled under her breath. He hadn't said killing, originally. Hmph, brothers were so... so... annoying. Grumpy, now, she swatted the ground with a paw. "You're the one who said scare them, not me," she complained, and frowned at him. "And I'm not scared; I bet I can kill more of them than you can!" Her honor was on the line, now - she had to do better than her brother, if just to wipe that look off of his face for a few minutes.

Shenu gave a laugh. "Well they are scared right before you crunch down." He gave his sister a toothy grin. That totally sounded like a challenge to him. "Cannot." Immediantly he went to stalk forward. Heck would have him if his sister out hunted him.
Hearing the scurrying of rats, Shenu darted forward. His jaws snapped shut; just missing he gave a growl and went to track it down. He'd give that one a good shake for getting away.

Amitab tried not to gigglle as her brother missed the rat that he was chasing. "Oh, you were so close!" she called, stalking another one from behind a pillar. "But close isn't good enough," the female called, pouncing at another rat and trying to bring it down.
She didn't manage to kill it, but she cut a nice gash down its side with a claw, so in her mind that was better than her brother had done!

He huffed as his sister noticed his miss. Just his luck she had seen that. Shenu felt his pride take a blow. He would catch that rat. Carefully he stalked it to where it had hidden. With his tail wiggling, the cub waited. Not yet..... not yet...... Now!
The moment the rat became distracted he leaped on it. His paws pinned it down so he could deliver a swift bite and kill to its neck. Looking up he purred. "I've caught mine. What about you Amitab?" He licked the blood off his muzzle and paws.

Amitab moved quickly, snagging her wounded rat and crushing its neck as fast as she was able. She would not let her self-important brother beat her in this, she wouldn't! "I've got mine too," she said, and to prove it she carried the mangled rat over to her brother and dropped it in front of him.
"Wanna try again?" She asked, ready and willing to spend all afternoon working at one-upping her sibling.

Shenu nearly made a noise in the back of his throat when his sister had the nerve to drop her rat in front of him. Really, why did he have to deal with sisters? Again he eyed the rat and coughed, "uh, yes. Very good Amitab."
He gave her a half scowl when she asked to try again. "With all the noise and commotion you've been making they'd have all fled by now. And that rat's blood-scent will ensure they don't come back for days. How are we suppose to catch them if they are all gone?" Shenu picked up his dead rat and replied muffled, "c'mon lets go depose of these."
