Ok so today i was working next to a female PFC who has never deployed and only been in the Army for less then a year, she reaches over and grabs my 1st ID patch. The patch that an Infatry man of 18+ years gave to me for services rendered during my first deployment. She tears it off of my shoulder and suddenly i felt this boiling, seething rage for her. It still pisses me off to think about it. I was ready to do sever bodily harm to her but i didnt, i maintained a level head. I snatched it back and replaced it on my shoulder. Then i instructed her to never touch that patch. Then she asked...Why? ******** privates, Am i wrong to of felt such a rage towards someone who couldnt of known how much blood sweat and tears (if i could cry that is) i put into earning this patch? Tell me what your patch means to you.

I agree with you there. I would have knocked her lights out, but unfortunately my combat patch doesn't mean crap to me. It would if i was allowed to wear the other ones i am entittled to from my deployment, but wearing your units patch as a combat patch is gay, considering my company is full of sever f**k ups

You are able to wear whatever combat patch as long as you have orders for it. If your chain of command says you cant then they are wrong and possibly douche bags. For me my 1st ID patch is the only patch for me.

Yeah, you can wear whatever patch, so long as you deployed with them. 30 days or contact in a combat zone. Wouldn't getting in a pissing contest with your first sergeant about it, though.
I got the chicken sandwich, and while I don't really think about it most of the time, it does piss me off when some slick-sleeve who got his bloodwings while on rear D gets lippy.

Could care less about my combat patch. Everyone in the brigade got one just for being in the east. Meanwhile my company took contact every other week as well as almost daily mortars. Combat patch doesn't mean s**t except that you showed up. Combat Action Badge is a little better because you are supposed to only get it for direct combat action, yet still a bunch of P.O.G's get it when their base gets hit with a little mortar or IRAM. The only one that really counts is knowing what you went through and how you did it. No badge, patch, or medal will ever be able to represent that to its fullest.

Your unit must of sucked nuts. I am proud of my 1st ID patch, it's not just a patch to me. it is legacy and tradition that I otherwise would not of been part of had I not deployed and worked for 1-7FA. What I did had meaning and it wasnt something everyone in my unit did. Every real man in my family has served since the civil war, for us this is our heritage.

Meanwhile my company took contact every other week as well as almost daily mortars. Combat patch doesn't mean s**t except that you showed up. Do you ever sit back and think..and hold your hat cause this may be mind blowing, that the soldier earned their badge like any other soldier. Sure some get it for dumb reasons and that does detract from the meaning of the CAB. You know pogs make the infantry move right? Without mechanics your trucks dont run and without supply you have nothing to fight with or no TP to wipe your a** with. Contemplate these..I know I have.

So tell me, how does them supplying me with TP or turning a wrench equate to "Combat" for them? Yes i have seen none combat MOS' engaged in a firefight, but they sure as ******** weren't handing out toilet paper or index cards. And I know that "All jobs are neccesary for the fighting machine to function" but them fixing up my humvee doesn't earn them the right to wear a cab because somewhere down the line that humvee was involved in an ambush. That's like saying that since I gave my friend a pencil for a test he took that I got the good grade for it.

And a Cab is given to people who had been engaged by the enemy be it direct contact (firefight) or indirect like being mortared. The cab is not limited to infantrymen who engage in a 4 hour firefight. I personally dont believe anyone should get one. Getting shot at comes with the job, thats my opinion on that though. But those guys making your deployed life better is no less hell for them then it is you because they got people they are seperated from. Wives, Husbands, mothers fathers and children. They sit in all the same sand as anyone in the military reguardless of branch and rank.

The true hero's are the single soldiers who receive less than HALF of the pay a married soldier does. crying I should have gotten a sham marriage before my deployment.
