Riley seemed strangely unnerved as she entered the class. She held no books, as usual - but in her hand was clenched her homework, on a single sheet of paper. She laid the paper out on a desk as she took her seat, and stared, very deeply, at the wood of the desk. She made absolutely no attempt to look up at, or greet, the professor. No, this table was far too interesting. Her hands folded discreetly in front of her, and she sat in an eerie but poised stillness, eyes turned down.

It was Botany time again, which wouldn't have been a problem at all if it hadn't previously been Music time. West hurried into class, his textbook under one arm, and took his customary seat in the back of the room. He was actually on time and prepared? It was a miracle. Slightly less miraculous was the intense glower that was spread across his face. No, that wasn't miraculous or even rare, it was mundane, at least in West's world.
Once the wrath demon was seated, he cracked open his book and retrieved his homework, slamming the book shut again and placing it on top. The assignment had caused him a bit of difficulty, mostly because he had no idea how he was supposed to draw a plant he had never seen. Thankfully, there had been an entry in the textbook that he could work with, even if his supposed familiarity with the subject matter had nothing to do with plants. There must have been a reason the disgustingly happy witch was called that in the first place, right?
West leaned back in his seat and began picking at his nails, waiting for class to begin.

Israfel skipped into the classroom. Skipped. Like he was a fey or something. Malordore was already here! Which could only mean..."TENTA FACE!" Subtle, Israfel was most assuredly, not. wings fluttering in excitement over the weekend's discovering and antics of Groanspring, Israfel's smirk was half kind, half scary. Scary for one Mindflayer at least, who was the current focus of Israfel's amorous inquiries. Questions of her feelings had gone well into the night, as well as the day. The siren loved a good love triangle, and now, in front of him, was one.
Sitting behind Riley, the smirk hadn't faded as Israfel pulled out his drawing. It was of Caraway, and a few doodles on the side indicated just why he probably should never be allowed NEAR the plant, (was that Professor Cricket and the school Secretary making out...with scarves? It might as well be). Leaning over his desk the siren whispered. "You really should bring supplies to class. Prof C might get upset with you if you're unprepared." He leaned further forward. "And I'm sure you don't want to disappoint him right?"
One good shove and the Siren would pretty much topple into Riley at this point.
His homework might as well have earned him a chair fall anyway.

Calder has heard of Botany, but had no idea what it was. It wasn't until he heard it was about plants from some passing students leaving the first class that he was interested. Plants? He knew plants! He ate them all the time, and his family used them all the time. For cooking and because his family lived in Nowhere Woodlands central, for whatever little ailments that didn't require them to rush to the nearest mad scientist or deranged doctor. It took some figuring out where exactly this class was, and he spent a good time going in circles, not to mention he had to work to walk the long ways half the time to avoid ponds, rivers, and streams that meandered through the campus.
When he arrived, he saw that not only was he late, but everyone seemed to be opening books. M-Maybe he should try the next class, but seeing as he was already here, he slowly opened the door and slipped in, tip-clomping is way to find a vacant seat and hopefully not be noticed. With any luck, the professor would just naturally assume he had been there for the first class, and he could figure out what this class was all about. Hopefully they would be munching on something good. He missed breakfast that morning and was really in the mood for something savory.

Riley heard the settling of a student nearby, and turned to see - oh thank Jack - Malodore seating itself for class. It was only a seat away, but Riley got up, clutched her homework, and moved to the seat next to it. Her head inclined just slightly in a force of habit move when she sent an affectionate nudge into it's mind, and just barely managed to notice that Astra had taken her previous seat and sat beside her. She didn't get a chance to greet either of them further, however, because it happened.
"TENTA-FACE!"
Riley sunk further down into her seat.
She could feel him leaning towards her from behind, and turned her head just in time to come face to face with him, inches away. His whisper had her forcing down a blush, which she proudly managed to do. Her eyes, however, betrayed her as they slit and flared with anger.
I come to every class this way. If any Professor has a problem with it, I would explain myself and there would be no further issue.
Her eyes fluttered down to his homework, and one eyebrow cocked. What in Jack's name.. am I smiling?
Yes. THAT is what surprised her most out of his homework.
She swiveled back around when the Professor's voice, and then her chest rose and fell as she took a deep, calming breath. She didn't get up to get a new book, despite not having one in front of her. The entire text was already carefully categorized and available for her at a moment's thought.
