Sin was anxious she and Riley weren't exactly the best of friends...or really friends at all, they were just acquaintances. Except Sin wanted more, and if she couldn't have Riley as a ghoul friend then she wasn't going to loose the chance to at least have her as an alliance. Of course if there was some way to be both that would be ideal. Braum's fit and drop-out of the school had left Lucky 13 in an uncertain position, but Sin would not let go of her place. She intended to build the club up and make it better then before. She held a dark envelope in her hands and tapped it against the table. She was sitting in a corner of the food court watching for Riley. Normally shadowy corners weren't her thing, she liked to be in the open, to see and be seen, but this was a delicate affair and she needed some privacy away from the school ground to talk to Riley. She had seen the application submitted by the demon and it was impressive.
She had already made up her mind to let Riley into the club, but before she gave her the title of a Major Arcana she wanted to make sure she wouldn't be backstabbed. She flicked her hair back and tapped the envelope a few more times. She was tempted to pull out her eyePhone and check the time, but she didn't want to fidget. Everything would be fine she just had to keep a relaxed positive attitude...and probably not mention panties.

The Maul.
Riley had shuddered visibly when she read the response Sin had posted. She wanted to meet at the Maul. While this came as no surprise to the mindflayer, she was still uncomfortable about it. So many brains, held fast in their delicate little fleshy shells, pressed together as they bustled to and fro in their hurry to get nowhere fast.
She suppressed another shudder as she found her way to the food court. With a careful scan, she easily located the demon in question, and walked around the court. The dark corner was a more comfortable spot, at least - out of the way of the bustle of life. Riley approved of the setting.
As Sin's gaze was turned to one side of the food court, Riley slid gently into the seat of the opposite side without making a sound. When Sin eventually turned, she'd find Riley sitting there already, waiting silently for recognition.

Sin turned and there she was just quietly sitting there, she had a moment of tense muscles before she relaxed. She flashed Riley a quick smile but she didn't try to ooze the usual charm, she knew the other ghoul wouldn't be impressed.
"Hello Riley, thanks for coming...want something to eat? drink?" She glances about at a few of the places selling delicious smelling food then back at Riley. "A brain shake?" Apparently she had done her homework on what the Illithid liked since it was unlikely she enjoyed such a drink herself.

Riley's expression softened and she nodded in greeting. Good evening, Sin. She responded. At the mention of food, she quickly shook her head. No, I'm fin- .. brain shake? She'd only caught the tail end of that, and blinked up at the food court. Does one of these establishments sell such a thing? She would never say no to an offer such as that.. not to mention it would curb her rising urge to kill the Maul shoppers.
I suppose I could indulge, just this once.. perhaps the Maul wasn't such a bad place, after all.

"Yes there's a smoothie stand here that caters to all tastes, I haven't had one myself but I saw them on the menu. Here you can take a look at this while I grab us something to drink." She slid the envelope towards the other ghoul and then stood and walked across the foodcourt to order a brain shake for Riley and a slime smoothie for herself.

She headed back and set down Riley's shake sitting down and crossing one leg carefully over the other.

Riley looked significantly interested in the idea of a brain shake, but her interest was diverted when Sin slid an envelope her way. She took the envelope in one hand, but watched Sin walk away while a long claw slid underneath to open it. Her eyes fell on the invitation and card inside, and widened just slightly. Ah.. so this was what their little impromptu meeting was all about? She'd heard rumors that Lucky 13 was done for, with the abandonment of Braum. It seemed, however, that the rumors were false.
This, of course, meant Lucky 13 would be far more secretive than it had originally been planned. How delightful. Riley's eyes rose to cast a side glance at the demon at the shake stand. Sin had suddenly put down a well played hand, indeed.
When Sin returned to the table, both papers were back in the envelope, which was closed, but unsealed. Riley flicked the cover off the shake on the table, and one of her tentacles rose to slide gingerly into it. Her eyes, however, were focused very firmly on Sin. Both of her hands fisted together under her chin. I'm glad to see Braum's absence is being taken in stride. She murmured quietly. I will be at the gathering.

"The club has a stable background, I saw no reason not to ensure it remained safe and intact despite Braum's unfortunate incident. I'm glad you'll be at the party...however I did want a chance to speak to you in private. You see currently I find myself rather in need of someone intelligent and ambitious. You lack neither trait, but I would hardly feel comfortable extending you a position as a Major Arcana without us having an...alliance."
She paused and casually twirled her straw in her drink for a moment before looking back at Riley. "I need someone I can trust to be at the top. I need to know that if any of the minor arcana get a bit too power hungry that a solid structure at the head of the club will keep things from getting...messy. I want you at the top Riley, but I have to trust you, and I'd like it if you could find a way to trust me too."
It was a lot to ask, she knew she was showing her hand, but she also knew Riley wasn't a fool. There could be plenty to be gained if they allied themselves. Sharing confidences, votes, and standing behind one another could help them both reach many goals and keep anyone else from dragging either of them down.

It wasn't hard for someone with Sin's upbringing and knowledge of basic demonic lore to know exactly what buttons to push when one wanted an alliance. Riley's priorities concerning Sin began to shift slowly in her head. Perhaps she would be of more use to her than as a new pair of legs for Amrita, after all. However..
Trust. Riley murmured very slowly, as she leaned forward. The sound of her voice was like silk. The shake at her side was half empty. An interesting concept, among demons. Wouldn't you say? Her eyes slit just a touch. You've made a wise decision, coming to me. An alliance is possible, but if you want my trust, I'd like a promise from you.
Her tentacle rose out of the shake, and rested on the rim. Liquid brains dripped from it's tip. Drip. Drip. Drip.
I know you have many friends who are not demons. I do as well. There's nothing wrong with that, in my opinion. I simply want to be sure you still appreciate how secretive the finer points of being a demon should be. She slowly leaned back, and her tentacle slunk back down into it's drink. Can I have your assurance that my trust is deserved?

"A promise? You can't possibly think I'd take your mark Riley?" She eyed the other demon for a moment before smirking and tapping her fingers on the table. "I've noticed you trying to build up quite the collection of favors...and your quite good at it." She had to hand that much to her even if she didn't approve of some of Riley's intended marks.
"I know how to keep a secret, I want to make sure we can trust each other...whatever benefits me, benefits you...and likewise what's bad for you is bad for me. If we can have each other's backs without having to worry about any backstabbing, that would be ideal." She waved her hand and flicked her hair back.
"If you require something a bit more binding...I suppose we could BOTH take marks...but really we ought to start trusting each other without needing such extreme measures. Don't you think?"

If Riley could grin, she would. She sensed a little tension when it came to marks, and leaned in to soothe Sin. Her voice remained as silken as it was before. So quick to assume, Sin. I mentioned nothing of a deal. I didn't even extend my hand. She wiggled the fingers under her chin playfully. I actually wanted a legitimate promise, from one ghoul to another. Not that I can blame you for being wary, of course. She gestured softly as if brushing it off. I won't take offense. Nor will I be giving, or taking, marks this evening. Although..
She reached out, and brushed a single finger along Sin's collarbone. Her voice turned teasing. I will admit my mark would look fetching against your skin. She pulled away, her eyes mooning to crescent shape in amusement. Despite the alluring aesthetic qualities, I wouldn't dream of trying to mark you. Our alliance shall be one of equal footing. For as long as it suited her needs, that is. She was sure Sin felt the same way.
A slurping sound broke the otherwise heavily laden moment. Her drink was done, and her tentacle lifted out of it's cup and disappeared behind her.

Sin slowly smiled at Riley, she was tempted to close her eyes and just listen to the soothing voice in her head, but she knew better. She kept her eyes focused and nodded softly a slow smirk curving her lips. "I see now why you're so good at it...you're very soothing...but I imagine you can be a great many things."
Including seductive, but Sin wasn't about to mention that, she simply held herself steady and calm as the tentacle moved across her skin. "I imagine there are many things that would look fetching against my skin...and yours as well for that matter...but I digress...you wanted a promise and I'm all too happy to exchange one with you."
She eyed the tentacles as they slid back in place and sipped at her drink before setting it aside. "Each member of Lucky 13 takes a card, a pseudo-name of sorts...to keep your identity secret. You'll need one...and of course we'll have to arrange a meeting proper for all the current members. The party is a way for all demons to meet and mingle, but as you may have guessed I'll also be keeping an eye out for potential members. We need to thicken the ranks...but not with useless fodder."

Sin seemed to have a careful reign on things, which bode well for the Lucky 13. It wouldn't do to have someone lead it who didn't have priorities and efficiency in mind. Riley nodded, understanding what was to come. What is to be my card, then? She wasn't aware of where the cards came from, yet, or whether she picked her own or was given one.

Sin reached into her bag and pulled out a deck, she separated the top few cards and set them aside. "These are taken...this is mine..." She turned over 'The Empress' card and then pushed the rest of the desk towards Riley. "You are free to choose from the deck that's left."
She was curious what Riley would choose, it seemed to her that the card names they went by said so much more about them then mere names. They revealed strengths and weaknesses, her own card often summed her up better then she would have liked. It revealed her strengths, beauty, passion, sensuality...and her weaknesses nurturing, mothering...words that Sin feared would make her weak. It was that protective instinct that made her stand up for others even when it put her in peril. Foolish, her father would have said...and she couldn't afford to act foolishly, she had goals to reach.

Ah.. actual cards. This was a clever little idea. She took the deck that was offered to her, and began flipping the cards over, one by one. She looked at each card carefully, trying to assess which would be best suited to her tastes. Three had actually caught her eye, but she made no visible notion of being interested in any of them until she had looked through the entire deck. Then, she took the cards, flipped through them with her thumb one last time, and decided.
Well, Sin. If you'll have me, She slid one of the cards up out of the deck like a magic trick, and plucked it out to set it on the table, facing the ghoul. Her voice took on a gallant air. I would be honored to serve as your Emperor, my Empress. She slid the Emperor card in front of the demon.

Ahhh...the Emperor, Sin eyed the other demon and slowly nodded, she should have known. Power, command, organization, leadership, tradition...all these fell beneath the emperors card. Riley was a powerful figure, she would do well to keep that in mind. She took the card and slid it with the rest of the claimed ones with a nod. "Of course, you'll meet the rest of the clubs members at our first gathering...and you'll probably meet some before then or at the party."
It was a lot to consider, she was building something up and preparing to try and balance herself in a precarious position. Still it filled her with a sense of purpose, this was what she had wanted, demon allies and unification for power. She just felt a small niggling sense of guilt as well, after all more power for demons meant less for everyone else. Still she couldn't allow that to sway her from the course she had chosen. "Now then we ought to exchange that promise hmm?"
