With unhurried steps, the dark stallion performed the standard patrol of his herd's territory. The tall green grass licked at his legs with each movement, a sensation he loved. The smell, the feel, and the bright green color of the grass, it all reminded him of life. Why? He really couldn't say. It was something that had been locked into his mind since he was a young foal.
Nothing ever happened on his patrols. Every now and then he'd encounter a stray Soq who'd wandered into the herd's land. When alone, he would warn the poor Soq off. Very few often knew just what they might have wandered into. When with others, which was rare, he'd have no choice. With closed off eyes, he would watch the Soq be led off for judgment. Fellow Cerynei would be welcomed by the herd. Non-Cerynei were often forced into slavery.
He didn't care for the ways of the herd, but he had no say. Only his brother, as leader of the herd, had sway. He on other hand was simply expected to do as told and follow the ways of his family, ways that had been set for generations. Take a mate designated by his brother and obediently follow his brother's every command while protecting the herd and their ways.
And that's why he was out here patrolling, because it was his set duty. This part of his duty, he embraced. The chance to get away from his spiteful mate and the fearful gazes of the herd members was something he truly treasured. Out here there were not hateful shouts or contemptuous whispers. There was only the sound of the soft breeze.

Cursing what this mare had been doing quite often since being exiled from her lands. Since reaching this cursed land, she vowed to return to her lands and take her place in rule once again. It will be a shock to her herd for them to see her return too. This 'Land of Light' as they called it, many believed that if one were to step into the lands, they were destroyed, since whenever a member had left their land, they never seemed to return. It was called the 'Land of Light' as well, mainly from the fact that her land was almost always in the dark because of the location and the amount of trees, so compared to her home, the lack of shade dubbed this new land its appropriate title.
Venturing through the lands, her yellow and red eyes scanning her surroundings, Midna schemed, plotted and contimplated how she will return. It will probably take her some time, so she might as well enjoy her time here while she could... if she could. The masked mare snorted when her last bits of trees ended and nothing but tall grass spanned out in front of her. She could tolerate the meager amount of trees, but clearings... there was nothing close to shade. But, she had to walk through it. With a flick of her tail, she trotted into the grass, the blades reaching just under her chest due to her small stature. She hoped that there was something here that was worth coming out here for.

Just as Setesh began to turn to move onto another area, a splotch of color in the distance gave him pause. His first thought was that it could be someone from their neighbor and ally, a herd of unis that lived to the north. But, they would send word before venturing into these lands. And they most certainly wouldn't seek him out on patrol. Not only that, their visits were rare. Due to tension with other members of the herd, brought on the other Cerynei's open hostility and discrimination, he was often called to visit them.
With cautious steps, he began to approach this intruder. His head was held high as he used his height to his advantage. He hoped that this intruder would take one look at him and turn to leave, much like his fellow herd mates would do when he was in the area. Whispering of his eyes being windows to evil as they scurried off.
He doubted their words, after all he was certain he would know if he were evil. Still, he hoped this intruder held the same view point as them. They would be better off leaving these lands.

The small mare continued through the grasses. The newcomer was unaware of any herds in the area, nor did she really care, she was just passing through and had no malintents in mind. Why would she? She had a herd of her own, she just had to get back to them.
As she walked, Midna caught something dark in the distance. What is that? She thought with a slight tilt of her head, her helmet too heavy to tilt any further. As she watched the 'dot' get closer, she got a mischievious grin on her face, a fang poking out the corner of her mouth. Whatever it was, perhaps she could have some fun in this land. With that, she started to head toward the dot, it appearing more and more like a soquili as she approached. The mare also took note of the dominant position the other was taking. Hoping to scare her off was foolish. It takes more than just looking big to her to frighten her, especially since most other soquili are bigger than her anyways. So, she just continued to head toward this other.

The first thing that caught Setesh's attention when he could fully make out intruder, which appeared to be a mare of all things, was the odd armor that rested atop her head. At least, he thought it was a helmet. Be the weirdest set of antlers he'd ever seen if they weren't.
A sigh of disappointment escaped Setesh when his intimidation tactic seemed to fail. If anything, it had completely back fired. The mare was now approaching him, and thus stepping further into the herds' land.
Glancing around to insure that it was still just him and the mare in the area, Setesh came to a stop. His head still held high and his gaze locked on the mare once more. Once he deemed her within ear shot, he bellowed out, "Outside, why have you ventured onto my family's land?"

The small mare continued toward the odd stallion, now spotting odd growths coming from his head. Were all the dwellers of this land endowed with these extra 'appendages'? If so, it would be quite a sight to behold, but not too odd to blend in, easily saying her helmet was a mutation of some kind. Though she was certain it would not work on every individual.
Her orange eyes had noticed that the larger soquili had stopped, but she kept a bit longer. It was when he called out to her that her path to him ceased, tail flicking. Family's land? She thought, I see no family. No matter. With a toothy grin and an impish giggle, she called back. "You creatures of the 'Light World' are so jumpy to conclusions! Just passing through I am, looking for a way back home. No need to be so concerned." She told him, her voice rather childlike despite her age and with an eerie, distorted echo.

Of all the things the mare could do, she giggled at him. The stallion could feel his cheeks warming beneath his dark fur. Most others that crossed paths with the stallion reacted in a fearful manner. His odd eyes being the source of that fear. They said he was a curse upon them, a bad omen. And so, they avoided him at all chances they could get.
Never had anyone giggled at him. It was embarrassing, and yet, lightning.
As the mare spoke in an echoing tone- an accent from her home lands?- Setesh kept silent. Both out of intrigue and to simply be polite. He tried to keep his gaze on her face, but every now and then he would catch it traveling up to the thing that adorned her head. Just what was it?
"You should be wary of what lands you pass through. This land is protected by the Elm Folk, self proclaimed protectors of the forest," Setesh's voice took on a scathing tone as he spoke of his herd. Upon realizing what he was doing, he cleared his throat and continued. "They do not look kindly upon outsiders, especially those of impure blood."
He fed her the standard line for those he caught within these lands, holding back any questions he himself had. Odd horns, or armor, an odd accent, and addressing the land as "Light World." This mare was certainly not of the ordinary mold.

Although the stallion had intriguing eyes, they were nothing that really caught her attention, especially since hers seemed to glow when the darkness did come around. What truly sparked her interest were the objects that sprouted from his head. They reminded her of the same protrusions she saw on other creatures among the trees of the forest, but they were much smaller, and rather skittish. Did he perhaps capture one of those creatures and ripped the growths to attach to his own head? It was a gruesome thought, but it caused another eerie giggle to escape her lips.
As he spouted some nonsense about 'Elm Folk', she found herself getting rather bored. Midna did notice the change of tone in his voice when he spoke of his people though. Odd, did he not care for his own kind, like herself? Pity, perhaps he wouldn't be so much fun. She would just have to see. Giving a flick of her tail, she shrugged when he finished. "Why be wary? The Light World is a new place and I do not know of where every one resides and takes rule, nor of who rules what."

Now what had this oddity of a mare giggling? His words had been of a serious nature, not a humorous one. Perhaps she was off in the head? He'd glimpsed those in his herd who talking to empty air and giggle at nothing. They always met a quick end, their head getting up close and personal with a heavy rock. The herd did not want such taint defiling their blood lines.
"Your lack of knowledge regarding this world is exactly why you should be wary. There are those whom welcome outsiders, and those who do not. As I already stated once, the Elm Folk do not." Setesh pauses, one of large ears flicking as he cocks his head. He scans the trees lines and meadow, searching for any signs of fellow Cerynei. It would not be long before another sentry would be sent out to search for him. To discover why he had fallen behind in his patrol.
His brother had little trust in him. Something that he could not blame the other stallion for.
"Those who rule this area either kill those consider impure, or force them into servitude." Lifts his head to gesture in the direction from whence the mare had come. "You would be wise to turn back and return home."

To many who did not know of her ways, she did seem a bit mad. With her odd way of speaking, her avoidance of the light and her giggling, it wasn't too hard to see why. But that couldn't be farthest from the truth. In reality, she giggled at what peaked her interest and so far, this stallion was doing just that.
She carefully tilted her head at his comment. "Is this a hint that this Light Dweller wishes me to leave?" She questioned. When she spotted him look around, it caused her to flick her orange eyes about, scanning the area as well. She may be bold, but she did not wish to be attacked, especially from not a being full strength quite yet.
After her scan came back empty, she returned her gaze to the stallion, especially as he spoke of slavery and killing of others. That was not what caused the scowl to appear on her face. The words that affected her negatively was his suggestion to go back. With a snort, she retorted. "That I cannot do. Exiled from my kingdom from a traitor, I have been... to 'die' in the Light World."

Left to die... Such a cruel fate was exile. To have those you thought yourself a part of, comrades, friends, and family, turn their backs upon you. At least, he imagined this. Amongst his own herd, he constantly felt unwelcome. As if he were an exile, despite being allowed to wander where he chose within their land and hold the title of prince. It was only amongst other herds that he felt welcome.
Annaki, a large unicorn that led a nearby herd that those of the Elm Folk unwilling called allies, took in all with an open heart. Including a young Setesh. Constantly, he would find his way to the near by lands of Annaki's herd so that he could feel that thing his own herd denied him, love.
A smile tugged at his lips as he briefly allowed his mind to get caught up in distant memories. It quickly vanished as an idea arose. He eyed the mare, this mare that had no place to go. Without a doubt, he knew that Annaki would take her in. Provide her with shelter and protection until she either found a way to return home, or found her legs hear.
Either way, he did not want this strange mare's death upon his head.
"If I lead you to a safe haven, outsider, would you follow?"

Midna watched the stallion curiously, especially as the smile played around his lips. Light Worlders odd creatures they are. She thought to herself, having never seen a smile that did not have evil intent to it.
The offer was tempting, especially since she felt so exposed to the light here. She needed a place to think things over and come up with a way to go back home. "Follow, I will."

Setesh wasted no time before turning away from the land of of the Elm Folk and trotting toward some mountains in the distance. If he wanted to get this mare to safety, then they would have to make haste. Another patrol could come around at any given moment. He didn't even spare a glance to see if the mare followed. To check would do nothing but waste time. If she changed her mind and chose not to follow, then at the very least he could say that he had tried to help.
"At the base of the mountains, there lives another herd. They take in the lost and abandoned. I am certain that they will offer you shelter, and aid."

Her fiery eyes watched as the stallion didn't hesitate in turning and walking away. She chuckled lightly, "Something be bothering here." She mused to herself before following after him. Her steps were light and whisp like, almost like a fairy despite not being a flutter. She really didn't care less about this herd he mentioned at the base of the mountain, the only concern she had was, "There trees, will be, yes?" She questioned, still loathing all this light that was currently surrounding them. If it wasn't for the fact that she needed the help, she would not be here in the first place.
