Minimum Academic Requirements for the Elementary, Middle, and High School
The Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian school, one of several academic institutions under the auspices of the Western Prelacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church of America, is a college-oriented school accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
The school strives for academic excellence. As such, special attention is rendered to the curriculum, the integrity of which is never compromised. The school offers advanced placement and honors courses, as well as courses certified by the Regents of the University of California. Students at Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School are required to maintain a minimum academic standard (delineated below) in order to remain in the student body. Through numerous programs, including academic and guidance counseling, peer and teacher tutoring, individually tailored instruction, extracurricular activities, students are given ample opportunity to raise their academic standards to the minimum level mandated by the school.
New Students
Incoming students from other institutions must fulfill the following requirements in order to be accepted to the middle and high school.
A. A minimum GPA of 2.0 for the last academic year at the former school.
B. Satisfactory performances on a grade-level English language test administered by the school.
C. No history of major disciplinary infractions. Probation Policy If, at the end of the semester, a student fails to meet any aspect of the criteria delineated above, he or she will be placed on academic probation during the following semester. The student's probationary status will be fully explained to the parents. The student will not be readmitted to school, if, at the end of the school semester, he or she once again fails to achieve the minimum academic criteria required by the school and if retention or other alternatives are deemed inappropriate.
Retention Policy
Retention or disallowance of a student's promotion is intended as a means to improve the student's potential success, not a punitive measure.
The following factors are considered before a student is retained:
A. Level of achievement (test scores, if applicable).
B. Chronological age.
C. Physical, social, emotional context.
Parents of students working below grade level in basic level skills will be advised of the deficiency at each grading period. The final decision via-a-vis retention will only be made if it appears to be in the best interest of the student.
Final decision regarding promotion rests with the school Principal.
Acceleration
Under unusual circumstances, acceleration may be permitted by the principal, taking into consideration staff recommendations as well as the student's level of achievement, age, maturity, and other factors.
Discipline
One of the most important goals of our educational institution is to provide each student with a strong sense of understanding of the meaning of discipline. Not only does discipline underlie the entire scholastic structure on campus, but it also shapes the overall mental and emotional characteristics and orderliness of our students' everyday lives. Discipline, therefore, enables our students to become respectful and socially acceptable individuals who will become the responsible and law-abiding members of society in the future.
Discipline can best be developed within our students if both the home and school environments enforce and uphold the same proper values and attitudes. Thus, student activities must be organized and efficiently implemented both at home and at school with the same objectives of developing the virtues of understanding and respect.
The cooperation of parents, teachers, and the school administration will therefore be essential for the effective handling of all disciplinary matters.
Assigned Infractions Punishments
Category A
1. Artificial nails and nail polish 1st: Warning
2. Chewing Gum 2nd: Detention
3. Littering 3rd: in-schoolsuspension
4. Make-up (more than modest)
5. Magazines (not authorized by a teacher)
6. Pagers, Cellular Phones, radios, videos, baseball and playing cards
7. Tampering W/Classroom Furniture
8. Unexcused Tardiness
9. Uniform Violations
]10. Use of the Public Phone in Cafeteria
11. Talking During Lectures
12. Failing to Follow Directions
13. Turning in Incomplete/Sloppy work
14. Failure to Complete Homework
Category B
1. Cafeteria Abuse 1st: Detention
2. Communicating with Non-Alex Pilibos Students through Campus Fences 2nd: in-school suspension
3. Harassment of Others (verbal/physical)
4. Male Students Wearing Earrings to School
5. Students With Inappropriate Hair Style
6. Minor Vandalism to School Property
7. Parking in School Faculty/Staff Lots
8. Swearing
9. Tampering W/Teacher's Desk
10. Throwing Objects in Class
11. Throwing Objects out of Classroom Windows
12. Unexcused Absence
a) Requests for make-up tests will be denied
b) An will be given
13. Talking Back
14. Acting Violently
15. Making Flippant or Facetious Remarks
16. Possession of matches and lighters
17. Buying or selling of any item on school premises
18. Threatening language and gestures
19. All forms of physical contact on school premises
20. Writing notes using vulgar language
Category C
1. Cheating or plagiarism on tests, quizzes,
1st: Detention major assignments
2nd: Suspension a) Parents will be notified
3rd: Community b) An will be given Service (5 hrs.)
2. Cutting Class
3. Disrespect for Adult Authority
4. Disruption of School Activities
5. Misbehaving on Field Trips
6. Reckless Driving Around Campus
7. Truancy
Category D
1. Fighting (spur of the moment) 1st: Suspension
2. Indecent Exposure 2nd: Probation
3. Leaving campus (permission slip is required) 3rd:Expulsion
4. Stealing
5. Swearing at a Teacher or Adult Authority
6. Tagging of School Property
7. Smoking, use of Illegal Drugs/Alcohol During Private Parties
8. Fighting in the Immediate Surrounding of the School Campus
9. Bullying
Category E
1. Association W/Gang Activities Automatic Expulsion
2. Break-in and Entry
3. Fighting (violently, premeditated)
4. Guns, Dangerous Objects
5. Harmful Substances
6. Illegal Drugs
7. Possession or use of alcohol and cigarettes on school premises and during school sponsored activities
8. Substantial Vandalism to School Facilities
Please note:
There may be other actions, not listed above, that may be considered as unacceptable behavior by the school administration. Therefore, Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School reserves the right to make necessary changes, or modify school rules at any time during the school year.
Students and parents are asked to read the School Policy and understand its positive and constructive intent of creating the best learning environment in our school.
The disciplinary policy of the school will be enforced with consistency and all due consideration. Corrective measures will be implemented only after effective teacher-student-parent discussions and necessary counseling have taken place.Maybe the rules are "lighter" than it was way-back-when, but still: Are most private schools like this? Most of what was stated above in the "not-to-do" list is stupid, in my opinion. Then again, that's probably because I've never went to a private school. Still, I didn't know they could be that strict!
Swearing not allowed, eh? That's totally against Daron's principles. As well as Threatening language and gestures, Make-up (more than modest), Harassment of Others (verbal/physical), Students With Inappropriate Hair Style, Possession of matches and lighters, Buying or selling of any item on school premises ( rolleyes ), Threatening language and gestures, Writing notes using vulgar language, Indecent Exposure (two words: a** crack), Swearing at a Teacher or Adult Authority, Smoking, use of Illegal Drugs/Alcohol During Private Parties, Association W/Gang Activities Automatic Expulsion (I've heard he used to be a bad boy)...
He really must have hated that place.

I read somewhere that they used to do horrible things to kids in that place... like they'd lock kids in dark little rooms if they cried and stuff... I read that Daron sometimes has nightmares about it.
I really wish I couuld remember where I heard that so I couuld post the link... I don't wanna be that guy who is like "Oh, yeah, this..uurr...dude...told me this from some other guy and he said that he heard...blahblahblah..."
