Xelloss didn't know why the raccoon was awake in the middle of the day and didn't particularly care. The raccoon was likely already sick or hurt, which just made it all the more easy prey. He watched it sitting in a patch of sunlight blinking blearily. It was definitely disoriented. The weak status of the raccoon made it almost pitifully easy to dash up from behind it and kill it. He gave the raccoon one quick bite to the neck and when he drew back his lips were red with blood. The raccoon was a gray lump of fur on the ground now. Death was so sudden that it didn't even twitch. "Well," he mused to his dead prey. "That wasn't a very exciting end for you, was it? How unfortunate... for you, that is."

It had been scarcely a week since the movement of the UnderGround. Naturally their so called 'fearless' leader had been so busy celebrating their new home that she had forgotten to check the area for potential threats. Lorenna sighed audibly as she trotted around the parimeter of their headquarters. This was most assuredly not her job. This was the work of birds and Wolf. Since none of them seemed willing to act without order, though, it seemed that finding out what sort of place they were actually inhabiting actually was fell squarely on her shoulders. For a gang they were awfully unorganized. She pursed her lips as she walked wondering if she could do better. Her thoughts of what sort of organized and professional organizations could be lurking in the area evaporated in an instant as she stumbled upon a figure. It was not unusual to see creatures roaming on their own in these parts. What was unusual was that it seemed to be some sort of demon beast...talking to a fuzzy grey lump on the ground. "Well well...who do we have here?" She asked frowning deeply. If there were kalona in the area it meant bad news for the entire underground.

Xelloss lifted his head and blinked in mild surprise at the intrusion. It was a mare, a flutter. In his opinion, flutters were the least impressive and intimidating of all soquili breeds. Even the stunted usdia were more intimidating. They could be really mean if they wanted to... while flutters seemed more interested in floating from flower to flower. Flutter or not, upon seeing her he had instinctively pulled his usual smile onto his face. It was the crafty smile of a fox, all innocence on top with mischief and teeth underneath. He turned aside from the fallen raccoon to face the newcomer and even folded his wings to make himself appear smaller and less threatening. "Why... it's just me, nothing to get excited about." He replied. "I was just seeing what I could do to help that poor raccoon. It's hurt, you know."

Her expression remained frozen as the stallion turned around. She was quite used to being surrounded by large breeds though kalona were rather intimidating by size alone. This one looked to be roughly twice her size. Goody. She wasn't about to let size alone frighten her off though. She had work to be doing. "And I suppose you were just licking his wounds to help?" she asked dryly nodding her head at the blood on his lips. "You really must be quite the sweetheart." Her wings lay flat at her back but she could feel them shift, a common response to irritation. She hadn't been born yesterday and she wasn't some empty headed twit of a mare. She disapproved of being lied to when the truth was staring her in the face.

Xelloss' smile only grew wider in the face of skepticism. He could tell that no matter how this interaction ended that it would be amusing for him. He didn't know which was funnier, when a soquili completely fell for one of his tricks or when they didn't believe a word he said but grew increasingly irritated as he kept talking. He could annoy a flutter all he liked, too. What was the worst she could do? Turn small and flick pollen in his face? "Wow! How did you know that's what I was doing?" he asked with all the cheery innocence he could muster. He let his expression grow more somber after that, casting a glance toward the fallen raccoon on the ground. "I did what I could for him but he died anyway. Isn't that just tragic?"

"Lucky guess." She answered blankly. Really she felt that she had no time to spend entertaining a Kalona's idiocy, however, she could not wander away from such an obvious threat. She scowled unhappily. "It is quite tragic. Ending a life so early..." Her light eyes lingered on the form of the dead animal. There was something unnaturally calm about he she stared death right in the face uncaring. Her boss would have been flipping out already about how gross it was. For Lorenna, it was just another death. It wasn't like she hadn't seen thousands of those in her time here. "But, the 'spirits' can take whatever they want. I suppose it would only be proper to give the poor thing a proper burial since you seem so keen on helping it."

A burial? Was the mare actually trying to tease him herself? That was a strange reaction. Xelloss had to admit to himself that she had him there. He had no desire to bury a perfectly good chunk of furry meat. He wasn't terribly fond of flesh left to rot. His smile didn't falter but it did grow a note less genuine at the thought. "Now, is that really necessary?" He asked with concilliation. He gave the dead raccoon another pitying look for dramatic effect. "The poor thing. Burial is the way that humans honor their dead, but I don't really see that being appropriate here. Humans kill raccoons all the time, don't you know? Its spirit would probably be much happier left to roam aboveground like is more natural to raccoons." While he was turned toward the raccoon he took the chance to lick some of the blood off his lips. He didn't want the mare to be reminded of it... and it was still quite tasty and fresh.

She eyed the stallion critically as he tried to dig him out of a little hole. Had she really caught him off guard so easily? She snorted lightly. Either everyone was too dimwitted to question him, too scared to question him or she was just foolish enough to try it. "It seems to me that humans have the right of it." She countered completely unwavered by his logic. "Better to bury them than let them turn into fly chow. If his soul wants to wander than it's already free to do so. It needs not linger where it isn't needed" She fixed the kalona with a steely look hoping he got the hint.

This mare was tough for a flutter. He might even have to mentally recategorize them, depending on the outcome of this encounter. How strange. That as it was, he felt that the conversation was heading back in a direction that he could work with. He considered himself quite skillful at the art of the verbal dodge and riposte. "Is that what you think?" He thought back to some of the more spiritual soquilis he had met in the past and the things they had said. He could use that. "I disagree. I think that turning into 'fly chow' is a part of life." If he hadn't still had a note of snark to his voice, he would have had an air of divine dignity about him with his next statements. "We're all born into the world and should give back to it when we die. Even if that means we give back to the flies. It's better than rotting underground, isn't it?"

Mentally she imagined how wonderful everything would be if the kalona just suddenly keeled over. He'd get to have his little slice of the circle of life and she'd be able to get on with her work. While she was probably being an idiot for interacting with a demon she wasn't yet crazy enough to push her luck completely. She couldn't back up a death threat and she was fairly certain he'd realize that in a heartbeat. "You are forgetting the worms, darling. I'm sure they'd like to get something back from all of us too. They don't get nearly enough love from the four-legged kind." Perhaps if they kept this back and forth up long enough he would get sick of her, grab his meal and leave. She could work with that easily enough. Really she might even celebrate.
