Aranea slowly cleaned herself, her abnormally long tongue flicking over the short hairs on her chest, and down her front legs, sweeping over the muscles, licking the dried blood from elbow to fetlock on each. With that done, she settled down more where she was laying, spreading each wing open, checking the membrane for tears or signs damage.
She was currently wedged off the ground, nesting where two large trees had fallen across each other, her tail dangling down across the trunk of one, her back hooves digging into the soft bark for leverage. She looked like a particularly vicious bird perched there, and she was enjoying the view whilst she attended to her cleaning regime.
Occasionally she would pause, tilting her head and flicking her ears in the direction of some noise or other, but it was never coming closer, nor sounding like anything she had to be on guard about and so each time she would resume, her tail tip now lazily flicking as she was making herself feel sleepy. With one final lick she was finished and she stifled a yawn, shaking out her mane and refolded her wings, still looking around but now with half-lidded eyes.

Today was a strange day indeed. The dark Kalona stallion was bored! Really strange. He'd already hunted today. Twice. Terrorized a few Soquili that had crossed his path. Beat up a tree. Now what? He'd never had this problem before, it was confusing and foreign to him. So now he was just wandering through the forest, hoping something might jump at him. Maybe even a rabbit would spark him wanting to go hunt again or something. Anything!
But nothing did, yet. Now he was just gonna get grumpy at this rate. His tail lashed about, slicing into bushes and tree trunks, and he just all around looked like a big menacing grump. Then he stopped. Something was different. He sniffed at the air. It had a very faint smell of blood. Barely even there at all and it had almost dissipated. A few more minutes and he may not have noticed it. But where..? His nose brought his head up, his eyes following suit. Well what did we have here. A little bird basking after a meal. And he'd almost missed her just sitting there in some trees.

One eye opened fully and then another as her nostrils twitched, ears flickering. A new and unfamiliar scent had set her on alert, especially as it was close by.
'I see you.' she called, peering down from her perch, her tail flicking and her wings at ready should he attempt to attack. If he did, well then he would be a very large fool, and a waste of attractive skin as for the moment she had the advantage being on higher ground.
'Can I help you?' she purred the question at him, shifting her position on her perch so that she could see him better.

Kaitos thought about this for a moment. He didn't really need help with anything, though he would like to know about this creature above him. Always inspecting those who might dare to call themselves Kalona when they truly weren't, according to their DNA. But how to go about finding this information... His lips pulled back into a grin. "I just want to talk. Why don't you come down here? I don't think there's enough room in that little nest of yours for both of us."
Usually he would flat out ask about their heritage, but maybe he could talk it out of this one. If she was indeed an impostor, he would destroy her. Though if he was simply asking questions about her and she revealed some possibly deadly information, he could blind side her. Then if it turned out she was the true thing, well... It didn't hurt to have a few friends, right?
"Do I get your name, little bird?"

'Because I'm perfectly comfortable here?' Aranea replied, in a lazy fashion as though she was content to be here and he was disturbing a sleep and foolish mare. But she was far from it, and suspicious at his reasons for wanting her to leave her perch.
'If you really want to talk, come up here.' she nodded to the end of one of the fallen logs that was wedged against the others in the trees. 'There's room, you're not so big that you won't fit.'
She wanted to see if he would be bold enough to take the risk, or if he would stand his ground and insist on her coming to ground.
'Aranea, do I get yours?' she echoed in a faintly mocking tone.

Kaitos narrowed his eyes at her a bit. Won't come down, huh? Well he had to try and gain her trust somehow. He spread his large leathery wings and flew up to land precariously on the end of the log, giving her a long curious look. "Kaitos. Tell me about yourself, little bird. You have some..interesting markings. I assume your parents have ones similar?" This whole trying to gain trust thing seriously sucked. He didn't care about her markings or her feelings or whatever she might spit at him. He wanted to know genetics.
"They're not around are they? Not that you can't take care of yourself, I'm sure you're quite capable...probably." He grinned at her. "Tell me. And don't lie to me, little bird, I don't appreciate liars. You look full-blooded Kalona, but are you truly? Were your parents, even grandparents, both Kalona?" He advanced a little on the log, tail swishing in a growing irritated manner. He had to know. "Or are you just playing a little game of pretend?"

She watched as he flew up to join her, noticing that his landing wasn't very sure-hoofed, and so if she had to she could displace him with a hard bang with her hooves on the log.
Aranea snorted at him; 'Why do you get to ask all the questions? I could ask you the very same, the whos, and the whats..' she bared her teeth, her long tongue hidden for the moment, her tail flashing, the pointed tip stabbing in the bark near where he stood.
She stood up then, unfurling her wings, facing him boldly. He was full of fire which she found attractive, but incredibly arrogant as well. 'I've gone through one stallion already, used him for strong and pure children. Want to be number two?' she grinned.
'I'm entirely capable. Of everything. And I'm completely skilled. In everything.'

He bared his teeth at her, but also admiring her spunk to stand up to him. The word he heard most out of all of her blabbering was 'pure'. That was all he needed. "I don't get used for anything, if anyone's going to be used it would be you, mare. You would be lucky to carry my genes if I so decided. Feel free to ask your questions, I only needed to know if you were even worthy of my presence or I needed to knock your halfbreed self out of this tree. But I believe I've found out what I needed."
He really wasn't a huge fan of this being in a tree thing, not that he would ever even think about admitting she was more skilled up here than he was. He would most definitely feel better on the ground though...again not that he was going to admit that anytime soon. "Are you trying to impress me, little bird?" he grinned. "How sweet. Except of course I can't just take your word for that. Words are meaningless compared to actions."

She laughed at those words, her white and pointed teeth shown for good effect, as she preened in front of him. She knew, knew that she was a good match for any full blood Kalona stallion, and the tiny hiccup in her gene pool was not something to be mentioned. Besides, neither of her first borns had inherited it, so there was every chance it would never show up.
'Impress you? Oh dear no, shouldn't that be the other way around? Besides..' she give a short hop, her wings opening as she traversed from one of the logs to another, her hooves slicing into the wood as she lightly balanced. She wasn't entirely sure she could take him in a fight on even ground as he was heavier, though she could give him a good kicking where it hurt and enjoy doing so..
'What actions does Big Blue wish to see from me? I can give the good and the bad.' she said, snickering softly.

"Please, all you need is to look and be impressed. You on the other hand, what makes you so special from the other mares? Besides your secret desire to be a bird." He shot a toothy grin at her. "I could have any mare I please. Why should you stand out from anyone else?" Part of this was a lie because... well it seemed the pure Kalona genes were damned near impossible to find! ESPECIALLY the females! But that never stopped him from his poking and prodding, just for a little fun.
He lept from his perch, and settled back on the ground where he was comfortable. "Take a walk with me little bird, tell me what makes you tick." He meandered through the trees, completely fine if she wanted to hop through trees above him instead of walking. It would be nice, he might admit, to have someone worthy to speak to.

'A bird. No indeed not. Just be the best I can at everything, light and nimble on my hooves.' Aranea said, with a not-so subtle dig at how he'd been amongst the tree branches.
'Yes? Could you though? I think not, otherwise you'd have left by now, gone to find one of those complying and boring mares that you seem to think would be fun.' she shot back.
She eyed him closely, thinking for a moment before pushing off from the branch, and stopping her fall with quickly opening wings. She landed, and stood a short distance from him, waiting for him to begin walking, not wanting to give him any kind of advantage now she had forgone her own.
'What exactly did you wish to know? You've already pried your way into my blood background.'
