BANNER SOON PROMISE?
And so the first tournament kicks off with somewhat pleasant weather to be had this gray morning! A small crowd of wolves has gathered a small distance away from your fight, some cheering on family, others booing or chanting for a particular wolf to lose concentration. Whether the combatants know each other or not, there is no doubt a certain air of tense energy in the arena today. The mid-morning chill might freeze toes, but for the combatants that will soon be a minor problem.

"Oh, this is going to be fun! It's a lover's quarrel~" purred the silver alphess, looking absolutely delighted at the ingeniousness of the leaves' selection. "This to decide who wears the pants of the family!"
How KK knew what pants were, nobody knew. Certainly most wolves wouldn't know the word, let alone the concept. What was known was that Hero's mate had been the first female to arrive that had not been part of the original keyblades, though at this point it was moot: time to see if love could dominate even the pride of winning a simple fight!
((Combatants, make an entrance post with the wolves getting ready to fight and roll a 10 sided die at the same time!))

Entering the tournament grounds Artemis wasn't sure if this was such a good idea. She loved Hero and while this wasn't a duel to the death or anything of that nature it still didn't feel right to be fighting with her mate. Perhaps LL had chosen then as some form as cruel joke, that only the ditsy alpha would understand. Either way there was no backing out of this now. Reaching the center of the grounds she turned to face Hero. What she needed in order to succeed at this was a thought that Hero had done something bad. They never fought, well they agrued every now and then, but what couple didn't? So she couldn't fuel her determination through that.
Sighing slightly Artemis thought of other things to fuel herself with. She couldn't use the pups as fuel as she knew Hero would never bring harm to them and even the mere thought of her pups being hurt would distract her from the task ahead. Celeste then, she imagined that something happened to her friend Celeste, nothing major of course or that would send her into a rage even if it was all a made up thought for this alone, but enough that it would give her the determination to prove herself. With the image of Celeste hurt in her mind to help her focus and not hold back Artemis locked eyes with Hero. She was ready.

Oh..oh my..Hero wasn't sure at all how to handle this incident, He supposed he ought to just think of it like a training fight, there was nothing wrong with a training fight and it wasn't like he was actually going to go out and hurt Artemis..although he was just a little bit unsettled by the look in her eyes and shifted his weight from paw to paw as he eyed her - man..why couldn't he have drawn lots with Winner?
That was a fight he could have rally gotten behind. Maybe the next time - well if he won against Artemis which to be honest he wasn't sure if he could - not through lack of skill he was a pretty good fighter..but through lack of desire. Artemis would likely put far more weight on winning then he would - she was the more competitive of the two of them. He gave her a weak smile from across the ring.

Even the normally unobservant KK could tell there was some awkwardness between the two - less so on Artemis's part than Hero's. "Just pretend the other's Winner," she happily suggested with a chuckle, settling to her post to referee. "Or Winner with a sex change. That ought to do it~"
Still, she couldn't not like the situation before her. Would Hero concede to his mate out of courtesy? Would Artemis lay down a beating only to prove a point before letting him win? Ooooh, the drama!
"Begin!"

Artemis was not impressed with KK's words - really she thought if Hero looked at her as a female Winner he would be more comfortable fighting? Sometimes Artemis just had to shake her head at the Alpha and wonder how she ever got to such a position in the pack. Well it didn't matter how Hero looked at her during this little fight, she was in it to win if possible, mate or not she would not withhold her claws and teeth. She flashed Hero a reassuring smile, to let him know that no matter the outcome of today that she still loved him.
Then her smile faded and Artemis moved in quickly. As she neared him she lashed out with her claws, raking them across her shoulder and chest, leaving relatively deep gouges. She felt bad about it of course, but she couldn't exactly stop after one move and tend to his wounds now could she? No, not if she wanted to win.

She..she actually hit him! For a few moments Hero couldn't really do anything but stand there in shock while he eyed the furrows she'd raked across his chest....he hadn't even made a move to dodge because well..she wanted to win and he supposed that a art of her wanted to let her.
But he was still shocked that she'd actually smacked him with the force that she had. In fact he was still standing there staring at the furrows a few moments later when he ought to have been thinking about maybe fighting back..or you know..dodging whatever she did next.

Look at him standing there like a stunned little pup. Artemis smirked and while she did feel bad she moved in for another hit. This time she aimed for his shoulder with her teeth. Poor Hero was still standing there stunned and her teeth sank in deep. She let out a whine to let him know she was sorry and didn't enjoy fighting him like this, and then once again put room between them.

Her second bite shocked Hero out of his gape mouth stun and his ear docked back a bit while he crouched on the ground as Artemis retreated....he wanted to fight..he did! It wasn't typically in his nature to give in..but..but it was Artemis, it was a fight all in fun but his stomach churned at the thought of hurting her...even just a little bit.
Of course he didn't blame her for fighting him - that was the whole point of the tournament of course and she had merely been strong enough to overcome their bond and do what she was supposed to ...her whines however told testament that she didn't really want to hurt him.
which left him in a conundrum...if he stood here much longer she'd have to come and attack him again which would make her feel bad..and if he just gave up then it wouldn't be a real win for her..and he sensed she did want to win..but if he fought back he might hurt her! Whining piteously at KK for the injustice of this match Hero none the less turned and faced his mate..he'd just have to be really really careful he told himself and the tail between his legs was a pretty clear sign that he didn't want to do this at all!
But he launched himself at his mate anyways, with the intention of scoring her across teh ribs with his fangs.

Artemis was a bit relieved to see that her second attack on Hero knocked him out of his daze. She did not want to win if it meant beating on her stunned mate until KK called the fight to an end. Though she should have been paying a bit more attention now that he was actively in the fight. When she saw Hero move towards her she tried to step out of the way but wasn't fast enough, and she felt his fangs rake across her side, the wounds weren't deep but it was enough to concentrate again.
Now that he was close she swung her head around teeth aimed for the side of his neck. But she missed and that pissed her off more than the fact that she let him get a hit in one her. Concentrate! she mentally scolded herself.

Oh she was getting mad..he could see it in her eyes as her teeth flashed by without making contact..for some reason seeing her getting mad made him want to stop and let her win without contest again..but he'd started fighting now and he couldn't just...give up..she'd likely chew his ears off if he did.
So as her head passed by he took the opportunity to make a grab for her ruff and try to give her a good shake - bu of course she was far to fast for him..or his heart just wasn't in it and his teeth clicked together on nothing but air.

From the corner of her eye Artemis say Hero try to make grab for her ruff but she was quick and moved out of the way. That miss on Hero's behalf reinvigorated her will to win. Spinning around Artemis' teeth snapped at his closest leg and she felt her teeth sink deep within the flesh. She actually had to stop herself from doing too much damage, reminding herself that this was actually just a friendly duel not a life and death fight.

It was official Hero was fighting back..but his heart wasn't really in it, Artemis it seemed had managed to get over the fact that she was fighting her mate and Hero yelped as her fangs sunk deeply into his foot and he retaliated with a half-hearted swipe of his fangs at her exposed ruff before she backed off...if he was lucky he might have scratched her.

She could tell Hero's heart wasn't in the fight as his teeth barely scratched the ruff of her neck. It pained her of course cause she was fighting to win and he, well he was only putting in a half effort. She understood of course why he didn't want to put in a full effort, they were mates, they shouldn't be fighting even if it was for a tournament, if just wasn't right. But she wanted to prove herself and that is why she fought hard. Of course the knowledge that Hero's heart wasn't in it affected her next move and when she struck out with her claws they met nothing but air.

Well this was just turning out to be a fight of well...everlasting misery to be honest, Artemis seemed to have lost a bit of her fire with the last trike as hero managed to dodge it without really even trying. he was sure she still wanted to win though so when he rushed in for his next attack he did so somewhat slower then normal which she could predictably dodge just as easily as he had her attack.

This was just sad, Hero wasn't even trying anymore. Not like he had been all along, but not she could see he was almost deliberately missing. She easily moved out of the way of his move. Artemis mentally scolded herself for not going easy on him, but if he wasn't going to put his heart into the fight then she had to. She moved in for her next strike, aiming her teeth for his shoulder, with her mind cleared her precision was back and she clamped down on his flesh.
