theres two REALLY talented Bassons in my band class! smile but that instrament is WAY to complicated for me, i mean TEN KEYS JUST FOR THE THUMB!!!!!!!! ((yes one of my really good friends is one of those players, smile )

I'm a music ed major, majoring in bassoon, I LOVE IT! Nothing compares to the bassoon biggrin I hope to play a French bassoon one day, about 10% of bassoonists (French) actually play them, but I'd like to see the difference, apparently they have a completely different tone and a separate key chart compared to the German (Heckel) system.

I want to learn bassoon soo badly our school only owns one though and its ancient and im not sure if i would be able too : (
our doesnt have one bassoonist (which is why i want to learn)

Note to all who would like to play bassoon:
Be ready to make your own reeds, learn 10 different fingerings for each note (at least 10) and 6 keys for one thumb and 4 for the other (depending on your bassoon model).
It is intimidating, but well worth it. The bassoon can pay for your college education. Trust me, that's the main reason why I'm in college now lol.
Also, playing contrabassoon, or "The Beast" is so much fun, especially when playing it shakes the ground biggrin

I am the only bassoon player in my school. i have been playing since i was in 7th grade and im only a freshman!!!! so yea it was really hard for me to learn it, but i got it down. i really need to learn more stuff and save to buy my own because i want to major in music........so yea....... confused
