Welcome!
We are the Orestes Tribe.
PostPosted: Tue Jan 25, 2011 8:59 pm

Rules
1. You know the rules
2. I know we're about smart foxes and all that, but don't be too all-knowing. We're more about learning than anything else.
I think everything else is common sense, but I will add more rules if necessary.

Updates
February 3, 2o11 - Three visitors will be entering the lands soon!
Janruary 29, 2o11 - Tithe has joined! Also, even though we don't yet have Daedalus, I'm opening up the tribe!
January 28, 2o11 - Yey, Dervla joined!
January 26, 2o11 - We have a member [Lumos]! And it's not Daedalus yet XP
January 25, 2o11 - Ordered Daedalus and setting up the thread

General Stuffs.
Just so you all know, visitors don't need to be studying for a specific tribe position, we teach a lot of other things as well. They could be here simply because they love learning, or they want to know more about something random.

Tribe Story: As a young fox, Daedalus spent his entire life travelling and exploring for the sake of learning everything he could. As he grew older, Daedalus longed to settle down and pass on his knowledge to other young foxes. He made his way back to his place of birth, Mt. Ilithyia, deciding to settle within it. Though a tribe was not his original intention -- he had at first considered his home as a school -- a tribe was what it became to the young scholars who wished to stay.

To this day, the tribe is open to foxes, tribeless or otherwise, to learn from Daedalus and the Orestes tribe. No fox is obligated to remain as a member. Many stay for only a few months, sometimes for the purposes of learning to become a better shaman, gatherer, etc. for their own tribe.

Tribe Beliefs: The Orestes Tribe worships the female Modeity of the Earth, Ilithyia. She keeps them safe within the extensive chambers of their large mountain [which was named in her honor], and the area surrounding it. Just as creatures turn to dust at the end of their time, the foxes of the Orestes Tribe believe that the first of creatures were created from the soil by the Modeities. They also worship the male Modeity of Knowledge, Enki. A tribe largely centered on wisdom, they honor Enki for the knowledge he bestows upon them, and the ability to apply such knowledge. Daedalus stresses to his followers that knowledge is infinite, all they have to do is learn.

Tribe Land: The foxes live in, around, and on Mt. Ilithyia, though the land doesn't stretch too far away from the base of the mountain. The ring of forest around the mountain is just large enough to provide food for the foxes. The caverns, known to the Tribe as “The Labyrinth,” extend under and around the mountain as well.

Within the mountain, besides the passageways, are many chambers made of different minerals, interesting rock formations, and 'underground' lakes. One lake in particular sits in the middle of the mountain and forms a river, dubbed the River Styx, which flows through the mountain and off a cliff, creating a waterfall that leads to a large lake at the base of the mountain.

Another major river of the tribe, the Lethe, flows from this lake and off the tribegrounds. Along the outside of the mountain are many cliffs and walkways, making it very easy to climb. Entrances into the caverns can be found at different altitudes around the mountain, and in the surrounding area. The peak, however, is only reached through the caverns, and said to be the holiest part of the tribe lands. Given the name Olympus, this is where Daedalus prays to the Modeities.

Here to Stay?
We love the smart foxes. But remember, as I said somewhere else, we are more a tribe about learning than simply knowing everything. Not only is it about knowledge, but what we use our knowledge for. We are an inventive and curious tribe. Note: It doesn't matter too much what the official mood is, since a fox could be any mood and still fit in well with Orestes.

Here to Learn?
Already in a tribe, but display a few of the characteristics listed above? You're more than welcome to stay a few nights and learn more about whatever you want to know!

If, after reading those two blurbs...
... you've somehow come to the decision that one or the other is the life for you, PM this form to me, demon~hybrid! [Title it either "Here to Stay" or "Here to Learn" respectively]

Gatherer:
Scout [Within Caves]: Anatola*, Adonis
Scout [Around Mountain]: Lumos*, Kuari*
Carer: Maeve
Tribe Member:

Specific to Orestes:

Teachers - They technically are what they teach, but when foxes who come to the tribe to learn how to learn the trade, it is their job to teach them. These teachers are highly regarded, and when not teaching are in charge of the rest of the foxes with the same job [Ex. Carer Teachers have jurisdiction over normal carers] Foxes in these positions have probably been in the tribe for a while, and have long since gained the Elder's trust and confidence. It is possible for foxes to work up to a teaching position.
[Any names listed above that have an * next to them signifies the teacher status]

Scholars - Though part of the tribe, scholars often travel far away, either to other tribes to learn their customs, different climates to learn more about the area, and so forth. They return home periodically and share this information with the others. When they aren't travelling, they remain here and are the teachers of visitors who want to learn things other than tribe roles.

Ayreon

Visitors - These foxes are not members of Orestes, but stay with the tribe temporarily in order to learn from the teachers. More often than not they are already in another tribe, preparing to join, or wish to remain tribeless, but want to learn more about the tribe position they are/will be in. Or, they could just be here to learn random stuff.

Celebrations!

Night of the Full Harvest Moon: This party is in honor of the Diety Enki. The orange glow of the moon on this night has always been, and still is one of nature's greatest mysteries. It has become their symbol of everything they have yet to learn.

Winter Solstice: On this day and mostly-night, Ilithyia is honored. The tribe thanks her for the shelter she provides during the cold months.

Maeve exited the mountain through a hidden entrance behind a waterfall. She was sure Daedalus would return home soon, so she decided to wander around outside while she waited. It was a slow day for her; there was no need to hunt, gather, or anything else, so she had might as well explore her relatively new home.

Taking the path that led her to the base of the mountain, Maeve found herself right next to the large lake at the bottom of the waterfall. She began to cirlce it, until she reached the river that flowed off the lake. She took a drink, then crossed the river and wandered into the forest.

This particularly bright morning seemed the epitome of springtime to Maeve. She could hear the birds singing, watch families of bunnies pass her peacably. The wildlife was great, but the vixen couldn't help feeling a little lonely, as she waited for her friend's return.

Although she had no idea where she was at the moment, Dervla rarely felt lost when she wandered from place to place. It was a trait she had inhearited from her mother, the Elder of the Gypsy Clan. The young vixen loved to roam the lands because it gave her the oppertunity to learn new plants, animals, and ways of life. Just recently, however, she had happened across a particularly peaceful forest that begged her not to leave.

Dervla had been seated on a rock, watching the sun rise in the forest for some time. She sat in silence, merely observing the life around her as it lit up with life and came alive. Often times in these situations, Dervla let her mind wander away from here and today was no exception. The young vixen would probably have sat on that rock lost in thought for hours had she not seen what looked like a fox move from the corner of her eye.

Coming back to her senses, Dervla turned to see a grey vixen strolling through the forest not to far off. Wanting to, no, needing to learn more about the forest and where she was, Dervla casually made her way over to the older vixen.

"Excuse me." She said politely when she got closer to the other female. "Do you know these lands? I wish to know more of about this forest. Could you possibly tell me about it?"
