The evening sky held a beautiful moon, shining down on the earth below, giving light to weary travelers. Spring had recently blossomed, which Adyr was most grateful for. Winter just made everything look so dreadful and gloomy, unless there was snow on the ground, of course.

Spring made it a lot easier for him to scavenge for food. Adyr had spent the entire day traveling from forest to forest, finding a few towns on the way. The day was not as fruitful as he had hoped; he found a few berries, maybe a scrap or two of meat...

What Adyr really needed right now was a nice rest...and a good drink.

Sure, he could stay at an INN in town, but that would be far too expensive for him. Adyr didn't exactly MIND sleeping outside, but he had been for so long; it was getting so tiring. It would have to do for another night, he thought. Unless he could find an INN in the middle of the forest. He softly chuckled at the thought.

The second the thought popped into his head, he noticed a bit of smoke above him. He would've panicked, but rather than black, the smoke was light gray... and smelled delicious. He couldn't help but follow the smell. He held onto his satchel and galloped towards the delightful aroma.

He reached his destination and laughed. There WAS an INN in the middle of the forest.

Deirdre sighed into the crisp breeze that whipped into her kitchen from the open window. She looked out at the forest with a bright smile. Ever since Reighn had gone on her journey, she'd been terrible alone, but she had hope. Someday, someone would come to eat her food and allow her to shower them with gifts...right?

"Of course they will!" She laughed, sticking her tongue out with a goofy grin. "What am I thinking? I just have to be patient, that's all. Whats a couple seasons without a customer, anyway?" The bright cervitaur dropped a gaggle of chopped vegetables into a large pot of broiling stew. Her cloven hooves clipped on the worn stone floor as she practically bounced to the wall for her broom. "Good day to you, Mr. Broom. It's time for chores."

When she went to the entry door, she expected to see nothing, but a small yard and trees. What she didn't expect to see when she tossed the door open with her fresh faced smile was a lone male cervi. One who looked like he was born of the winter itself. She stilled instantly, so shocked she just stared at him.

Was that...a customer?!

"Well, I'll be damned." Adyr wouldn't have to sleep outside after all! His stomach rumbled with desire. Hopefully this place wouldn't cost an arm and a hoove.

Adyr didn't have to move an inch to see a bright pink creature standing in the doorway of the INN. He made his way to the entrance of the building, admiring how clean it looked, even though it was out in the middle of the forest.

Deirdre sat her broom to the side in a hurried rush and ran up to the male so fast she left a dust trail. Her eyes were wide and desperate, hands clenched up around her lips. Could it be...? Was it really...? "A-a-are you hungry? Do you need a place to stay? Where are you from? What's your favorite food? I'm rambling, aren't I? I'm just so happy!" Even for a female, Deirdre was petite, possibly no bigger than an adolescent. She bounced up on her cloven hooves, her little tail stuck straight up in the air.

The long sleeves of her cream sweater bunched up around her chin. She flushed and looked down, then peeped back up. "You can stay for free, if you want. Completely free of charge."

Adyr was flabbergasted by all the information flying out at him at once. The tiny pink creature turned out to be a female cervi with hearts adorning her fur. "Yikes! I'd, er...I'd love a place to stay. And I am kinda hungry," he said in a hushed voice. "I won't take a room and food for free. I will pay, even if I have to work for it."

Deirdre squealed and almost threw her arms around his neck, but thought better of it. Instead, she latched onto his hand. "Excellent! I can make anything you want, just name it. Right now, I've got a stew, some fish, roast-" She tugged on his arm, then dropped it so he would know to follow her, all the while rambling about the various foods she had cooking. Not like she had any doubts that he wouldn't. A customer! TODAY! Happy fun-shine sunshine yay!

She stopped to look up at him with a bright smile. "Really? That's very kind of you, sir. I actually have some things around the inn that need mending, if you wouldn't mind. I would really appreciate it."

He couldn't keep up with this woman; he'd never met anyone that could ramble as much as her. Then again, the more she talked about food, the hungrier he got. He followed her as she rambled, thinking of the stew and the fish...and the roast...Adyr could've sworn he was drooling. He decided to think this through...if he could pay her a little bit of the money he had with him, that just might be enough to pay for his meals. Maybe, just maybe, he could work there to pay for a few more nights and a bit more food. He was pretty handy, and he needed a good amount of rest from all the traveling.

The fan girl within Deirdre's soul was doing cart wheels. By the time she'd gotten to the door, she's finally explained all the food stuffs that she had, could cook, and would love to try. When she stepped out of the doorway, she revealed the interior.

Every inch of the inside was carefully crafted, and while not the most elegant, it showed that the inn had once known wealth. There was a small, thick staircase that lead to the upper story, with most of the first floor being dedicated to a common room. A seating area was arranged infront of the fire, while off to the left towards the kitchen was a dining area. "Have a seat anywhere you want, and I'll bring something out to you."

The little pink blur that was Deirdre disappeared into the kitchen.

Adyr gave a polite smile and made his way to the seating area, admiring his surroundings. The INN looked very nice; very well decorated and obviously kept clean.

He watched the little pink taur gleefully make her way to the kitchen and made himself comfortable. The fire felt good on his light gray skin. The warm fire, the comfortable surroundings, the delicious smells that filled the INN...it was almost as if he was home.

Dierdre scrambled over to her pots. What should she serve him?! What did men like to eat? What would he like to eat? Did he like it spicy or cool? "Ooooh! This is too - OH! I've got it." She lightly slapped the side of her head with a giggle. "Of course. I'll bring him a serving of everything." Cracking her fingers, the petite cervi started ladling out soups and stews into bowls, then stacked them in a pyramid on a serving tray. Next she filled up plates with meat and bread, then added some greens on the side. Once her arms were completely covered in food, she started to scramble back through the doorway into the open area.

Since she knew the path by heart, Dierdre wasn't afraid when she couldn't see as she walked towards the dining table. Rather, she called out, "I hope you've brought your appetite," and sat them on the table.

Adyr sat at the dinning table when he was called...and found himself drooling at the array of food before him. This was enough food to feed at least two armies, he thought. Was she expecting more customers? ...did anyone else work here?

It didn't matter. Everything looked much to good to speculate over. He wanted to say so much: "It all looks so wonderful; I can't believe you did this all yourself!!! Thank you, thank you! Oh, what should I start on first?!"

...but all he let escape his lips was, "Thank you, kindly." He grabbed a bowl of stew, a bit of roast, a bowl of soup, and two heaping servings of bread.

That was all Dierdre needed to feel appreciated. She smiled, flushing lightly, and skittered off back to the kitchen for more drinks. When she returned, it was all she could do to hold back the questions she was dying to ask.

So, she stared.

The petite cervi sat across from him, arms clasped on the table, watching him with intent glee. He was enjoying it! She could tell, and it thrilled her to the bone.

This was a meal fit for a king, and Adyr was enjoying every little bit of it (well, aside from the roast; he was afraid it needed a little more salt). Just as he was about to lift the bowl to woof down his delicious stew, he glanced over to his server. He didn't know whether to feel uneasy or complimented, so he grinned and set his bowl to his side.

"I believe I forgot to ask you your name."

Dierdre leaned back, slipping her hands underneath the practically new table. He'd caught her! Oh no, now he's going to say something's wrong, or that she's creepy and he won't stay or she smells weird, the floors aren't clean, the water's contaminated....OH NO. What if it was?! Her one customer in years was going to catch the plague, and die!

"Oh." That...that was it? She smiled sweetly and grabbed a knife, unable to sit still without keeping her hands busy. As she spoke, she began to cut his bread into neat, thick slices. "It's alright; you're a hungry buck, and I can't blame you for having your mind on other things." She chuckled. "My name's Dierdre."
