 And so the first tournament kicks off with somewhat pleasant weather to be had this gray morning! A small crowd of wolves has gathered a small distance away from your fight, some cheering on family, others booing or chanting for a particular wolf to lose concentration. Whether the combatants know each other or not, there is no doubt a certain air of tense energy in the arena today. The mid-morning chill might freeze toes, but for the combatants that will soon be a minor problem.

Oath called two of Hero and Artemis's pups to fight, their match determined by the selection of variously poked leaves the previous night. "I expect a clean fight of course," she said to them with a smile, "but then, I doubt either of you need to be told that. Good luck to you both!"
((Combatants, make an entrance post with the pups getting ready to fight and roll a 10 sided die at the same time!))

"Yes ma'am" He responded to oath as she gave her instructions. Well..at least he wouldn't have to worry about facing off against a cheater, though he did miss the opportunity to show Conq his place in things, wretched little beast that he was.
But Glory wasn't a bad opponent and LS wasn't overly concerned with how things would turn out..as long as he did his dad proud thats all he truly cared about and he shot his dad a quick look before turning his attention towards Glory to see if she was ready to start, i mean it wouldn't be very heroic to just leap at her like some crazed loon right? He bet thats exactly what Cong did in his fight and tossed a glance at the rival pup just to see..momentarily forgetting that he really should be paying attention to Glory right then

 Glory Storm's limbs nearly sung with the tension and excitement that coursed through her. She was delighted at the chance of finally being able to prove her worth, and here, in front of everyone!
And, while she really wanted to wipe the smug look off of Conk's ugly face.....she was secretly relieved to be facing not just her brother, but her favorite brother. No matter what happened today, it would be okay.
But, she already knew she'd win. There was no question about that in her mind.
She nodded to Oath, only half-listening, her eyes already focused on her opponent. He was bigger than her, she noted. She'd never paid attention to it before. No matter now. What was important was he was staring all around like an idiot, and she was looking him over for weakness.
Bring it, big brother.

It was nice to see friendly competition, Oath reflected as she looked between the two. Niceer to know that blood was thicker than a single battle. Leaves had been poked through a specific number of times to denote each wolf when they had been drawing up combating pairs. Maybe there was a reason the leaves had chosen what they did.
Well, neither seemed like they were going to utter a pre-battle word or two, so Oath stepped back, sat on her haunches, and called out, "Begin!"

Glory had intended to let Stand make the first move, but her nerves got the better of her. Maybe it was the feeling of so many eyes upon her, or the nagging suspicion that maybe she wasn't even good enough to take down her brother...oh, jeez.
So, more from nerves than anything, she dove forward to swipe at him, but her paw-strike missed by a hair, leaving her close enough to be quite vulnerable.
Dammit! she thought, trying to recover her defensive stance. This is what she got for being too eager!

Thankfully Oaths last words brought LS' attention back to the coming battle with just enough time to see his sister come at him with a swiping paw, ducking sideways he felt the paw ruffle past his fur - a mere hairs breath from actually hitting him and certainly underscoring the need for concentration in the battle.
Whirling about before his sister had a chance to recover from her three legged paw swipe Ls used the momentum from his whirl about to smack his hip into her shoulder with the intention of sending her sprawling to the ground..though his maneuvering was a bit clumsy and he didn't manage to land the hit near as well as he had imagined doing.

Glory Storm stumbled back, barely keeping her footing as her brother's haunch slammed into her shoulder. She dropped down into a crouch, to regain her center of gravity, and her eyes narrowed, now totally business. All nerves that she might have had about fighting her big brother were gone. Now, she just wanted to win.
She dove forward then, nipping at his shoulder. She felt her teeth close around flesh and she bit down, but not as hard as she could. As much as she wanted to win, Glory couldn't get over feeling a little guilty about fighting her brother, and she kept catching herself holding back.

LS yelped slightly as his sister's teeth pinched at the flesh on his shoulder - but she let go relatively quickly and by the look in her eyes LS could tell that she could have done much more...well he didn't really want to hurt her either...but he did want to win.
If only so that he might have the chance to really vanquish some evil in the next round. He was sure she would understand and he wouldn't do anything too bad to her...As she backed away from nipping him LS jumped towards her, bringing his paws up and across her back and attempting to use his heavier weight to push and hopefully pin her to the ground, though she was an agile little thing and he wasn't all that confident about his ability to keep her pinned once he got her to the ground.

She fell back under his weight, but she had an advantage in that her stocky frame gave her a low center of gravity and strong little legs. "I don't think so!" She cried, steeling herself against him, and with some effort she kicked out with her paws, shoving him back. She struggled back up to her paws with the effort and, balance barely regained, she shoved back into him again with a shoulder. If he could push her into the sand, she'd do just the same!
It was a bit like playing tug o'war with her body, she thought as she jammed him down.

LS wasn't expecting his sister to try and get him with the same trick he'd used on her - which of course might be the very reason she tried it he thought to himself a she shoved him down into the sand. He struggled to free himself, writhing on the ground to escape her weight before trying to snap at one of her front legs, unfortunately he could't quite twist around to reach it and his teeth snapped shut on thin air.

"Hah!" She said, and grinned, aiming a swipe at him as she danced back. Her paw grazed past him, missing by an inch, and she wrinkled her nose at herself. She should have pressed her advantage and pounced on him while he was down, she thought.
Ah well. The opportunity was gone now. At least she'd gotten him good once!

LS gave his sister a smug look as her Hah! was followed up by a miss... 'whose laughing now huh?" He taunted her before trying to kick at her as he rolled to his feet and took a few paces to get some distance between them - since he didn't feel his feet hit anything he was pretty sure he'd missed her, but really he'd only wanted to get a few feet to think about his next attack.

Oh no you guys! Seems the wind has been picking up and is now beginning to lift some of the sand right into your faces! If you aren't careful, you might take damage from being blinded temporarily from the stuff digging into your eyes.
Randomize a number between 1 and 3!
1 = You manage to avoid getting sand in your eyes and suffer no penalty! YAY.
2 = Unfortunately some of it gets into your eyes, making you take 2 damage as you try to get it out. But at least you can keep battling!
3 = You seriously just looked the sand in the eye - and lost the staring competition. Take 3 damage and lose your turn (meaning this post and the next) to temporary blindness.
Order of first post doesn't matter now since it's kinda interfering with the battle~ Think of this as a reset with the first poster getting first shot.

"Oh, not that eas--" she caught herself as she charged forward, directly into a sandy gust of wind that blew up from the arena and slapped her in the face with its grit. Arg!
She stopped, totally caught off-guard by this, and for a moment she thought her brother had kicked it at her...but that wasn't right. He wouldn't! She hoped he wouldn't. Did he? Oh, he TOTALLY did.
She growled, swiping a paw at her eyes, trying to clear them. Oh, NOW she was angry!

LS thought he had done pretty well in getting away from his sister - unfortunately he turned about to see just how far just as that fateful gust of wind flung a bunch of gritty stinging sand into his eyes, yelping in surprise he blinked and pawed furiously in an attempt to clear his tearing painful eyes.
