She had wandered off from her usual area, exploring even more than before. She felt a bit of courage from her interaction with Shilo, feeling as though starting over would be much easier than she thought before.
Her steps were higher than normal, her eyes wandered over the scenery, watching the small things running around and starting life anew. It was spring, and though the dark mare still stuck out like a sore thumb, she felt much more at peace than had ever felt before. Nothing could make this day dark, at least she hoped there was nothing that could. Pessimism started to creep in, causing a small storm cloud to form in her mind as she grew a bit more somber.

Epinar couldn't help but enjoy the day. Spring was in the air, and she could feel it. Birds were coming back from their winter migrations, and life was returning to the world. There should be foals running around, and pregnant mare giving way to next years crop. She didn't think she would ever have to worry about that.
She made her way around the clearing, taking a mouthful here and there of the newly greening grass; the tender shoots little bits of ambrosia compared to the harsh dry vegetation she had been eating. But each season was it's own. That was the way things worked. No reason to fight it, but to accept it, and do with what you could the best you could do with it. No use fretting about it, as it just added stress.

She sighed and tried to dis-spell the looming cloud of pessimism that had invaded her thoughts. She found a rather nice clearing with all sorts of grasses that had grown up newly, this was much better than the dry stuff she'd been noshing on, and the greener her intake was the less likely she was to shred into some unsuspecting animal for sustenance. She sighed audibly thinking of how much better it was to hunt down a small rabbit or an elk, anything that was juicy and warm. Her stomach rumbled.
She pressed on and at her way through a large patch of new grass, trying to munch enough to stave off her hunger pangs entirely, despite the fact that she really just wanted to eat a duck, or a rabbit, she'd even deal with a field mouse if she had to. Ah...the trouble of having a carnivorous ancestor.

She continued to make her way around the clearing, trying to get enough to at least sate her appetite, when she heard a rustling of grass, and happened to look up to find a dark mare in her clearing, with pretty red stripes on her wings. Epinar was happy to have someone else nearby whom she could talk to. So, not even knowing who she was, she nickered a greeting to the other occupant of the clearing.

Alinea blinked then looked up to where the noise had come from, there standing before her was the palest winged mare she'd ever seen, but what really got her was the feathered plume sticking up from the mare's forehead. It made her want to laugh, which was terribly rude, so she bit her tongue for a moment, then politely nickered back.
There was the skittering of a mouse past her legs and she scrambled for it, missing the little bugger by only a few inches as it managed to escape her, coming back up, she sighed, grass sticking out of her long braided hair making her look very unkempt.
